I like you, you’re forward
(afab reader, fighting, sexual themes)
“I’m so sick of this Nikolai!” You shouted, slamming the large white door of the bathroom. You and your husband had been fighting more than usual, and there was a list of reasons why.
“Don’t you dare run from me.” Nikolai demanded, following you to the bathroom at the same pace you were fleeing his presence. He couldn’t quite catch up, his body colliding against the front of the door once you shut him out. “Dammit!” He cursed, taking a stiff hand and raking it through the top of his hair in frustration. “You’re driving me mad..” he mumbled, but you could hear it through the door.
“Mad? I’m driving you mad?” You scoffed, your eyes growing wide as a fire ignited in your chest. “How am I supposed to feel when my husband, my dear sweet husband is always off somewhere taking care of other people?” You asked him as if he’d know the answer to your question.
“What do you mean?” He asked, exasperated and taking the hand that had tried to soothe out his honey blonde locks and bringing it to do the same to his face. He rubbed his skin, stopping at the bridge of his nose as he sighed.
You felt tears well up, how does he not understand? It all seemed so obvious to you, every single time he would return home from being away you’d be curled into a ball inside your shared bed. Dried tears on your face and the white shirt he wore so much clutched to your chest. Maybe he didn’t notice, you tried to comfort yourself by begging your brain to believe that maybe he’s just as upset as you. Maybe he won’t show it. Or maybe he just doesn’t care. That’s when the tears began to fall, your cheeks stinging with the heat of anger.
“When you leave I-“ your sentence was cut off by a sob, which scared the living hell out of Nikolai because now he knew you were crying.
“Let me in.” Nikolai demanded, his voice sounding calm, but on the other end of the door he was erratic with his wide eyes and palms splayed out against the wood of the door.
“Fucking let me in.” He cursed, emotion slipping through into his voice. You knew he was panicked. There was guilt in your stomach for scaring him, but then anger came after that because it wasn’t your fault he had hurt you. You brought your hand to the knob, twisting and unlocking the chain that held it shut tight. Once you opened the door he seemed to almost appear inside the bathroom so fast you got dizzy when he wrapped his arms around you. He enveloped you, his body connecting to yours like some kind of shield.
“Tell me.. When I leave, what?” He asked, questioning the sentence you began but cut yourself off from. You finally gave in, resting your cheek against his chest, listening to his wildly beating heart.
“When you leave.. I hear all these things from the maids in the palace. They say when you leave me so often that-..” You couldn’t possibly say it, the very words would rip your lips into shreds. Nikolai would never kiss you then.
“What. Do. You. Hear.” He spoke through gritted teeth, his hands that were gripping your waist tightened. Nikolai heard a plethora of rumors about himself, some were more believable than others, but he had a sickening feeling about where this was going.
“They say you sleep with others.. They say you have someone in every kingdom..” you admitted, your heart skipping a beat. You were right. You wanted to rip your mouth from your face, you wanted to throw away your voice and promise to never speak again if it meant you’d never have to say something like that once more. Nikolai didn’t react in the way you thought. He didn’t pull away and deny any of the rumors that you both swore weren’t true. He knew no matter what he said it wouldn’t change what others whispered into your ear as they tightened your corset or tailored your hair. You were his queen, of course, and everyone else wanted under that crown.
Nikolai brought his hands to cup your cheeks, wiping a tear from your eye with his thumb so delicately you wondered if he was afraid to break you.
“Promise me you won’t listen to them.” He asked of you, his voice soothing out into a calm whisper. His beautiful eyes were looking down into yours, the eyes that always seemed to be full of ambition and fearlessness. They were full of guilt now, sadness replaced the usual crystalline color.
“Promise me that whatever they say you’ll shut out.” He spoke again, tilting your chin up to look at him even more deeply.
“And that you don’t believe a word that comes from their mouth.”
All you could do was nod, and when he kissed you it almost knocked your feet from under you. It was full of passion, full of regret for everything you had to endure just being his wife. You clutched his jacket, the fabric pooling in your fists as you tugged him closer. Nikolai met your wishes with a step forward, pressing his body against yours.
“Do you need me to remind you who I married?” He cooed, crowding your form back until you were pressed against the wall. The coldness of it sent a chill up your spine, so you gasped, but Nikolai covered your mouth to keep you from making anymore noises.
You could feel yourself go warm with slick, your cheeks heating so much you wondered if Nikolai could feel it under his palm. You nodded, compliantly, and then he smiled wickedly as he hoisted your leg up around his waist. He pressed his core against you in a way that made you squirm for more, but you know he’d give it to you. He always did.
“Let me show my absolute adoration for my queen..”
