Regulus and Barty are constantly at each others' throats.

Barty will say something for the sole purpose of pissing his best friend off and Regulus always willingly takes the bait so that they can have a screaming match. Regulus is always annoyed with Barty and Barty always puts a whole hearted effort into keeping him that way.

So most people never understand why they are "best friends" in the first place.

But when Regulus is having a panic attack, the first person he seeks out is Barty— and Barty is always there within seconds to calm him down. When Barty needs the world to stop for a second because of his shitty father, he immediately finds Regulus— and Regulus is always there to be a grounding force for him.

No one else might understand it, but anyone who is close to either Regulus or Barty know how much they both mean to each other. No matter how many friends they make, Regulus and Barty will always seek each other out— they are one another's first friends and soul mates, be that platonic or not.
