Helpful things underneath and who coined cogender
@cogender is the person who coined the term but i think they arent active anymore?
ive decided to finally publicly coin myself a personal microlabel ive been thinking about a lot:
non+binary
its been hard to concisely articulate that im always nonbinary and binary at the same time, in a way that is both one and two genders. all of the labels i mostly use- bigender, genderfluid, transmasc, nonbinary man, etc- are broad and carry a lot of assumptions that never seem to accurately encompass how my gender/s feel.
if multispec and acespec people exist in the gap between the sexuality binary, intersex people exist in the gap between the sex binary, and nonbinary people themselves exist in the gap between the gender binary... i feel like i exist in the gap between the binary/nonbinary gender binary that is so common in queer spaces.
when considering a new term, i wanted to keep "nonbinary" as the base, because it's the part of my identity most frequently made invisible. but i also wanted to clearly distinguish the binary part without fully separating it from nonbinarity, and make it clear the two genders synthesize each other. so, in my case, i am nonbinary AND a binary man, and would call myself a "non+binary man." the clunkiness is shortened into one term, overlapping yet distinct, one and two, a venn diagram that i fully encompass.
i would consider it a sub-label of cogender, specifically describing a binary and a nonbinary gender.
non+binary would be pronounced as it is written: "non plus-binary." this is somewhat in line with the format for individual expression of the related cogender and venngender labels:
from the venngender wiki page: "One may express this gender in the format of X vennY where X and Y are the two genders. For example: girl vennboy." from the cogender wiki page: "A format of expressing this identity is 'X co-Y' where X and Y are genders. For example, girl coboy. In this example one would be comfortable being identified as a boy, as a girl, or as a combination of a boy and girl."
See idk if you’ve posted abt this before (I just went thru nearly all the posts on espa’s worldbuilding and lore) but I’m curious about how they feel about their gender identity and when she began using those pronouns (is it just me or does that sound lowk queerphobic 🥀)
(I SAW <3 IM OVERJOYED RN)
i haven't! espa's relationship with their gender is a bit. odd? it's nothing special. but like
you could call her cisgender. and a girl. and truth be told that's not wrong. but they're a little bit detached from the notion
'coz you see. espa wasn't raised as a girl. it was raised as a weapon
(i like to say they're isogender :) not quite cis but not exactly trans either)
if we were talking in more specific microlabels. if espa knew about them and had to do some introspection to decide a term. it'd be cogender (<- a multigender label sort of like bigender but the genders are a little more interwoven), both nonbinary and a girl. but espa barely knows what "microlabel" is so
pronouns wise: as we see in the escravos de jo drabble :) back then. at least for a while. espa was using solely it/its. when it was even younger, it used she/her, because that was all it knew, but from a while on it was just 'it'
this is partially due to their first handler. i've mentioned cláudio a few times even though i didn't say much about him yet, but he was the guy that espa was assigned to before ann. he was the first to call espa an it. on a daily basis.
it wasn't exactly with the most progressive intent lmao. so yeah. it stuck. even amongst handlers thats a bit uncommon (ann, for example, calls espa a "she" and so do most of them) but he was their primary handler for a while so i think it really shaped how they view themself
once it changed handlers they gradually shifted towards the they/it/she we have today, though
despite that, i don't think the it/its comes solely from a dehumanizing and self-depreciating place for her. to say it has nothing to do with the dehumanization would be a lie, but it goes beyond that. they do genuinely appreciate these pronouns. that first... less-than-ideal situation was their first exposure to them, and maybe espa wouldn't use it/its today if it wasn't by that (maybe they would!), but it does genuinely like them. if espa was a little bit more aware of how fucked up its life is, then maybe it'd feel a bit self-counscious about it, but as things currently are, it's just happy with their three little pronouns
the 'they' came more naturally tho, i think. meeting people. having a vague understanding of nonbinary people from outside. rare instances where someone couldn't gauge its gender and called it a "they" which felt weirdly euphoric. so that's how we get to this :)
so yeah! espa is a girl. but not in a very cisgender way. they're also nonbinary, and having grown up as a 'weapon' shaped a lot of how they view themself. so it's a bit of a mix
Hi btw what's the difference to you between bigender/multigender and cogender?
Hello!
The person in this photo is Noah. I just don't want to share what their friend nickname on Discord is. (I realised after editing the photo that they are publicly known in a discord server, so the profile being edited didn't matter but, i still didnt want to share the nickname so i didnt bother changing it)
Cogender usually always has two or more (depending on how many genders you feel like you are) genders at the same time. It is why it's hard to figure out if you are more than 1 gender at the same time if one of your genders is your birth gender. (Man, this post is going to have the word gender in it a lot)
This photo is of Multigender, I have not seen this one before, so it's what got me to take pictures of all of them for this question.
I don't know much on Multigender, so if I did say anything it would be a repeat on what's in the photo.
The last picture is of Bigender.
The same goes for this one as I haven't really connected with Bigender, so I would really only tell you what information is in the picture.
Sorry for not having much information on Multigender and Bigender, but here is a great post explaining both of them from @multigenderswag !!!
Can we make this a little chain for lesser-known identities? ;) It feels a little disencouraging to use the one label that perfectly suits me when nobody's ever talking about it. I know most people just don't really know, so it makes sense, but I'd still like to, uh, talk about it, you know?
I'm gonna start, with my own, of course!

Cogender!
It's a gender under the multigender umbrella for people whose gender is formed by two parts. The preffix is from latin co-, "together"
It might sound a bit like either bigender or demigender, but for me not! It is more like single gender that is actually more like two genders in a trenchcoat. For me personally it would be man(ish, don't look too hard into it, but it could also be genderfaunan hahaha) + genderqueer :) I usually describe it as like... the more abrangent "transmasc"... and even though it does fit, "cogender" does it like nothing else!
I'm cogender ^^
(There is also an alt flag! It might be the original one, I'm not sure)

(Also the person who coined the top flag! With the og meanings)
Hello! You can call me Sami or Angel (or Bug). I use they/it/he pronouns and am a minor. I write, draw and just post things too!
ID. Chibi doodle of me, a boy with brown skin and curly black hair tied in a large bun on the top of my head. I wear a large dark red tee shirt with black sleeves and white accents, have dot eyes and have my arms reaching up. End ID.

cogender (from the latin root co meaning “with, together" and gender) is an inclusive gender identity that is the union of two or more gender identities. A cogender person is ok being identified as any of the genders included in their identity. You can be cogender and not know it if your gender happens to include the sex you were assigned at birth.
The difference between a cogender whose gender happens include the gender they were assigned at birth and cis person is the cogender would ok with being identified as another gender.
one format of expressing this identify is X coY where X and Y are genders. Example girl coboy.
note a cogender person may want parts they don’t have that are associated with their cogenders but don’t need them, this doesn’t mean the don’t experience dysphoria just that they ok with the parts included in their gender identity. Example an agender cogirl person assigned male at birth may feel dysphoria over their genitals (and the reactions there of) and want breasts but don’t need breasts.

Heya hey! Do you know what the difference between Bigender and Cogender is? Because they sound like they're the same thing but bigender could also mean Genderfluid?
It seems that cogender can include more than two genders, whereas bigender is two genders. That's what I'm seeing at least!
SO FAR... THAT YOU KNOW OF ... I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING until I saw this post. Cis gal plus agender for me!! Wild news, didn't expect to have my morning shook like that
Cogender is an inclusive gender that is the union of two or more gender identities. A cogender person is okay being identified as any of the genders included in their identity.
One format of expressing this identify is X coY where X and Y are genders. Example: girl coboy.
One type of cogender identity is cofluid, which is a fluid version of it. In a cofluid identity, one part of the cogender identity is static but the other part(s) change, possibly to match the first part. For example: a cofluidboy has a cogender identity that always includes male, but the other identities vary.
