The moment people were like âoh shit water bendersâ
I really loved this episode though, it was an established theme in the show that firebenders are associated with death and waterbenders are associated with life and healing, and up to this point it all seemed so clear-cut, because fire obviously destroys everything in its path while water can put out fires and heals, as weâve seen particularly in Kataraâs case with her natural healing ability. Â
Then we meet Hama, who due to years of torture and hatred has found a way to turn the classic gentler waterbending ways into a weapon of destruction and manipulation, and honestly I canât think of a better way to introduce people to the fact that things are never as clear cut as they seem. Â Weâve thought of waterbenders as the good guys up until this point, so itâs jarring to find out that no, despite stereotypes and traditions, there are always going to be good and bad people in every culture/group, but thatâs the point of the entire show.
Itâs revisited later too when Aang and Zuko find the Sun Warriors who teach them firebending is not just about death and destruction, but also about bringing warmth to the earth and making plants grow and both Aang and Zuko needed to hear that they werenât just instruments of destruction and gain confidence from the idea of using firebending to create life and I love it I love this show so much.
I ainât gon lie I was dead ass rootin for Hama when she was like âMan fuck dem bum ass firebendersâ
This is why this show is absolutely amazing.

My life is complete
trying to eat healthy while not going broke is so stressful
every tip page is one of several archetypes
eating healthy isnt expensive its actually cheaper than fast food, also im a millionaire and i havent looked at a mcdonalds value meal in 200 years. first step buy gold plated raw cabbage
throw some shit into a casserole dish for your horrible children. they wont taste it. who cares
the local parks will let u eat their trees leaves for free (:
Reblogging because that is the funniest description of foodie-based classism I have seen in ages. @apricops, any additiions to those archetypes?
these ingredients are so cheap to buy in bulk, never mind that the prep will take you hours, youâre not tired are you? BEANS!!
Quick, easy, and cheap! Required: 3 saucepans of different size, food processor, 12 ramekins, kitchen scale, microplane grater, cooling rack, piping bag, oyster knife, CrockPotâą
Pick up these weird esoteric ingredients at any of your nearby supermarkets! I have never heard of âfood desertsâ before and I refuse to believe that anyone lives further than 2 miles away from a Whole Foods
Canned foods are Of The Devil and you must always buy FRESH FRESH FRESH! Food spoilage problems? Just throw it away and buy more next week!
meat causes CANCER! sugar causes SUPER CANCER!! freeze raw lemons and eat them whole to NEVER DIE EVER AGAIN
eat a handful of live pillbugs to punish your filthy organs for their sins

DO NOT DO THIS.
This makes me so angry.
If you work in a movie theater and you do this I have no respect for you.
My younger brother is Type 1 Diabetic.
When we go to a movie theater, we always get him diet soda. If he were to get regular when we asked for diet, we would not give him the insulin he would need for it. If that happens, his blood sugar level could go so high he could go into a coma, go blind, or even die.
If somebody gave him regular soda instead of diet without telling us, that person could be responsible for a nine-year-old being killed or blinded.
Just thinking about that makes me so angry. I get scared every time we take him to a movie in case the people working there saw this picture and decide to do the same thing.
Please signal boost this so people know.
This also applies to baristas
Fun story about the baristas doing this kind of shit.Â
I am very sensitive to lactose, not Lactose intolerant but because of stomach ulcers that are still healing. A couple years ago I went to Starbucks right after my classes with some friends and asked for a green tea latte with soy milk. The barista, for some reason out of malice and/or hate for her life so she took it out on me, gave me whole milk in my latte.
5 minutes after my first sip of latte, my stomach cramped BAD. Not the âOh! time to poop!â kind of cramp but it felt like someone had stabbed me with a knife and twisted it. Now Iâve had this happen before so I knew the cause of it. I went up to the barista clutching my gut screaming at her that she put dairy in my latte rather than soy LIKE I REQUESTED. She denied it and called me a âpretentious white girl for wanting soyâand so my friends got the manager. I had to explain that I had stomach ulcers that were still healing and if I were to go to the hospital for this incident, they would be responsible for it.
Manager flipped his shit and the barista was terrified out of her mind. Pretty sure both thought i was gonna sue. Manager actually fired her on the spot because of the negligence. My friends managed to get me home in one piece while I stayed home for 3 days in absolute agony and missed my midterm.
So remember kiddies, if someone is asking for Diet or âSkinnyâ or âsoyâ or anything that is not regular, give them what they requested because it may not be them being healthy, but a dietary need that can possibly be life or death

Freaking THIS
Yes, thatâs right, itâs obviously the workerâs fault, not the systemic and pervasive problem of crony capitalism. Duh.Â
Let me tell you some fun stories, OP.Â
My best friend has a degree in early childhood education AND teaching home economics (there is an actual name for this degree, I just canât remember it right now, she would kill me). Yes, she has an ~actual degree from a university~. I know itâs hard to believe, because we so adore thinking that everyone making minimum wage are barely high school graduates (as if thereâs anything wrong with that).Â
Hereâs the thing though, she canât get a job with her home-ec degree because all of the things she could be teaching (culinary arts for example) are being cut from schoolâs budgets. So theyâre downsizing those teachers, not hiring more.Â
So she uses her early childhood education degree, and she works at a preschool. Bear with me. I know itâs more fun to pretend that the only low-wage jobs in our country are in retail and fast food. Because itâs easier to look down on the people busting their asses to make sure you can shop and eat. Â
She teaches her students their letters and numbers, how to write their names, counting and sharing and art. She gives her students a solid foundation to be able to enter elementary school.Â
She makes $8 an hour. In the city she lives in, depending on what preschool she works at she could make anywhere from $8-10 and hour. Itâs not a matter of skill, itâs not a matter of ârising aboveâ. There is no above in a preschool, unless itâs the director. And someone making $16,000-$20,000 a year and working 40+ hours a week doesnât really make enough to go back to school for their masterâs degree just for the hopes of making $15.Â
Before I got into my current field I worked at a different non-profit. Oooh, thatâs right. A Non-profit organization. With my degree. I actually did ârise upâ. I rose up as high as I could withing that organization. As high as ANYONE could, actually, without being either the Executive Director or Assistant Director. I went from making 7.25 to making 8.25. Thatâs right. I rose as HIGH AS I COULD GO and was still only making a dollar more than minimum wage.Â
That wasnât because of my skill, or my drive. I rose from the most entry level position to the position directly under the assistant director in THREE YEARS. But it didnât matter because greed is everywhere, even in non-profits, and the AD and ED were making six figures a year while the rest of us were starving. The AD and ED were also the only people in the org allowed to work full time. This wasnât because there wasnât enough work, this was because they didnât have to give us any insurance if we didnât work full time hours.Â
Greed is everywhere. THATâs why people donât have living wages. Corporations are making billions of dollars a year, their employees are getting their food from food banks.Â
Look at caregiver pay. These people are taking care of Nana and canât afford to live. remember that next time you complain about staff âIgnoringâ her. Understaffed, overworked, and minimal wages, and they have licenses and certifications.
The entire state university system in my state is preparing to strike for a 5% wage raise because the average faculty salary is $45,000 - which works out to about $22/hr, taking winter and summer breaks into consideration - for 50-70 hrs/week of work.Â
These are people with Masters and PhDs, people who worked their asses off to get to where theyâre at, people who work their asses off on and off the clock to provide an education. These are tenured professors who have worked ~10 years without a raise.Â
Donât even get me started on K-12 educators.
And no matter what, people need to work those minimum wage jobs. People who need to work in food service. Those jobs will not be going away because they are used by EVERYONE.Â
Telling the people that serve you every day that they should work harder to stop doing that job will not only destroy those things you now consider essential, it tells those people you donât value them enough to live while they struggle to serve your petty ass.
I, too, have a college degree. I went to grad school for a year before dropping out due to cost and the realization that I didnât want to do what I was studying. I graduated in 2013. Iâve had ONE job since then. Making $10/hr working retail. Which is a whopping 20Âą more than I made working retail in the same mall as a freshman in college.
Itâs not that people arenât working for it. Itâs that thereâs nowhere to go.
And you can bet your ass that while OP wants to talk about ârising aboveâ, they still want to be able to go have clean room at a motel, the want to be able to go to the grocery store and check out as fast as possible, they want to be able to get their mcflurry at three am. These kind of people want to demand the services of the working poor, but the idea of paying them a living wage is outlandish.
