Read this.
This was my first time being able to vote in an election. I am a 19 year old woman. I watched my cousins and aunts vote for Trump. I watched my mom tell me everything would be ok as we casted our ballots for Clinton. I watched a nation vote for a man that builds hotels over a woman who fought history to get her name on a piece of paper.
This was not an election between candidates. It was an election between two paths of our humanity as a country. And tonight, I watched our country turn its back toward the future and perpetuate red caps, an empty phrase, and an empty name. That is all he is. A name. A name that preyed on the fears of a people.
I don’t hate you if you voted for trump. I understand why you voted for him. I don’t care if you think I am wrong in saying that tonight, women of the world, people of color, the countless religions that found home here, and those prosecuted for centuries because of who they love, mourn. I can hear them, and I know you can too.
This is my blog. These are my words. I have worked for seven years to gain the capacity and the audience I have here. This is a moment in history. A moment we are all apart of. I ask you to read my voice humbly. I ask you to hear it loudly:
This was a loss for all of us. This was a loss in the progress of our humanity. This was a loss for me.
But through my tears tonight, I am a woman: I will not be unheard, I will not be ignored, I will not be scared. No. My voice is only getting started. And all women and men who see what tragedy has happened will be heard.
If you are with me. Take this and spread it like wild fire just as a candidate spread his propaganda of hate.
