This is how I learned to do it and a good example of what you want to see in a short form tutorial: pinning, pressing, seam finishing, good fabric handling.

I would mention that you can make the pocket facing with a small panel of your matching fabric that is visible and the rest in a lighter fabric to reduce bulk. That's a lot of denim layers for comfort.

I once saw a Painter’s Shirt in a high-end boutique. It was the normal color and material, but had been cut to accentuate the bust and waist, and it came with paint splotches, tastefully arranged, already on it. It cost $230.

$230 for a shirt that is a disguise. For a shirt that gives off the impression of a Creative Craftsman, but which is marketed to, sold to, people who’s closest approach to a paintbrush will be a wine-tasting-and-painting-retreat in Ojai.

I think about that shirt often.
