sorry not sorry, if you have a profile picture of a character thats a caricature of my disability portrayed in the worst way im just simply blocking you. i dont want to see it.
atp i might actually make that video on disability because this is absolutely awful to see a spike of in real time
come on. flappers from gameoverse is a lazy eye (specifically exotropic strabismus) stereotype that checks all of the usual boxes and more! he only has a lazy eye when hes being "silly" or "stupid"!!!! that exact character trope used to be called another name thats now considered too bad to say, now dubbed ~the r-slur~. baffling how its fine if an "indie" company constantly makes fun of lazy eyes but as long as they dont pull out the autism slurs its fine ? hi, local strabismus AND autism haver here, nahhh fuck off.
idk. disabled people are more important than ur cartoon.
this is a terrible first interaction, though i'd imagine this would happen sooner with someone else, given by my track record, so while the idea keeps plauging my mind, i'm gonna go ahead and take that block (reluctantly) and speak my mind
while i am in no way attempting to call the show infalliable (the very concept of a world where coding terms are used for most basic worldbuilding things bothers me) nor am i trying to bash it (for what it's worth, the story is nice so far !), it should go without saying that not every aspect of this story is done in malice or woth the intent to emulate a stereotype.
while the stupitity of the past is still making the reality of some having the disability worse, i highly doubt it stayed that way and that the reason they added it was to mimic real life, but rather, animation from the time ross did his original pilot, which leaned into doing it because it looked cute and endearing to them rather than stupid.
that said – i understand the annoyance at them for this, considering that its how that was portrayed, widely, for a long time, but since I don't feel it on a personal level (not a jab at you ncr, you have valid reasons to be mad and its valid), it's easier for me to brush it off as 'ross is already inclusive and I doubt he knew abt the disability and just thought it was cute' and 'if he did know he would have strangled glitch for it'
from the outside looking in, we can't know intent. though, i'm not saying "go back and watch the show you bigot" because that is so bitchy, actually,,, i'm just saying
take it a little little less seriously to the people who enjoy it without much knowledge of what your view on it is. not everyone knows its an actual disability (i didn't until you said something), so not everyone gives it much thought.
ok but. other people not knowing is frankly not a reason for me not to be upset. YOU are not aware of how the stereotype slips into every corner of everything, so to be blunt, why are you defending it TO a person who HAS that disability???? i know that its not personal and not everyone knows, but i like having intact mental health more, and to be frank its not my job to improve every last person on the planet.
someone not knowing that xyz is a stereotype and participating in it also doesnt make it suddenly ✨okay✨ to have done, for the record. thats a great way to enable and normalize bigotry, especially racism and misogny.
so again: idk. disabled people are more important than ur cartoon
i never outright said it was better for them not to know.
my point was it wasn't ill-intented, or if it was, we don't know; taking it out on people is unwarranted in most cases, and is flat-out a waste of time in others.
and, straight up: don't assume i don't know sterotypes when i've been a furry since 2017, been black all my life (crazy, i know), and was born in 2010 (and, semi-related, quite possibly neurotypical in some way). i've had to deal with enough shit from people assuming i'm a certain type of way because 'that's how your people are' or 'that's what im used to' or 'you're too smart to be acting like that'.
i'm not defending bigotry. i'm not trying to enable it.
my point is that punishing the people who don't know the problem they're causing without first understanding if they know is not worth your time. that's it.
it may piss you off or get under your skin but it's not always worth the time of day.
born in 2010, ok yeah you are. very young.
blocking someone isnt punishment. blocking someone is moreso removing them from my veiw- it is curating my experience on the internet. i am complaining about the bigotry- intentional or not!- thats shown in my own space.
saying that the physical disability is just seen as "cute" is known as infantilising, which is a form of bigotry. i dont know, nor frankly do i care, who ross is. the show still participates in those stereotypes.
just because you dont think people should be "punished" for their bigotry because some might not understand what they are doing doesnt mean i cant block people.
i never said it was better for them not to know, nor thats what you said- i said that i do not need to sacrifice my own mental health to teach other people not to be ableist, regardless of if they realize it or not. i have enough shit to deal with.
im not talking about other people of colour saying the n-word, either, to be clear. this is the equivalent of white people saying it. cmon.
don’t know what the world cup is but if you’re in the us because of it i’ve got some advice for you: The cup you Really wanna be focused on is Big Cup. specifically Big Cup of Big Beverage. you’re gonna want to go to a fast food restaurant or a gas station convenience store and you’re gonna want to order a soda or slushie or whatever in the biggest cup size they’ve got. you’re not gonna believe how big it is. trust me on this Big Beverage will change your life
everytime i wear an outfit like this i think about this tweet
Can everyone who makes video content do a Deaf bitch a favor? Watch your shit with the captions on and the sound off, and then do another round of editing to fix things including but not limited to:
Captions cover the spot on the screen you put the information I need
The dialogue is captioned but not the song you have playing that the dialogue is responding to
You only captioned the person on the screen, not the person off screen who is also talking
No captioning of critical sound effects (alarms, bells, dogs barking, etc)
Speakers are not labelled at moments where it is not clear on the screen who is talking.
Captions cover the spot on the screen that you put the information I need!
Other d/Deaf people welcome to add.
This post brought to you by the fifth video tutorial I could not follow because the bad, auto-generated captions covered what I was trying to watch today.
Shout out to aroallos.
I always think of the description I saw years ago: Self-imposed deadlines don't help me, because I know the person who set them, and they're full of shit.
Give yourself the treat before you start. I'm serious. And ideally during the task and afterwards too.
Executive dysfunction comes from a lack of available dopamine. Common advice is wrong. You need to provide your own dopamine before you can start. Otherwise you're trying to run your car on empty.
"But what if I still don't do it" well you already weren't getting it done anyway. Now you have a little treat. Try again later.
You deserve kindness and care even when you aren't being productive.

they don't tell you this but if ur really lonely for a long time, a hole starts forming in ur heart and the longer u feel lonely the bigger the hole gets and it doesn't matter if u feel less lonely when ur older bc the hole stays forever and ur life just grows around it. But the hole is always there.
i kinda love this response. just try reading my comment in a nicer voice and you'll feel better
