I don't know who will see this but I was recently a victim in an ao3 scam. Someone on tumblr was asking for an ao3 invite in February. I personally hadn't seen any scams that followed this format and I foolishly thought it was a legitimate person just wanting to be on ao3. I had one invite I had never used and thought I would be nice.

A month later, I get a message from the same person harassing me for more codes. I tell them I do not have any more and that the one I sent to them was redeemed. They tell me they never got it and to send another one to a different email address, to which I tell them no, and if they are so desperate, they can just join the waitlist like everyone else. They continued to harass me about codes until I blocked them.

Cut to today I get a message from someone claiming that a person in their server is going around harassing people with codes under my previous ao3 username (Writer_Child). I had already changed my username for an unrelated reason but if you are getting anything from a person claiming to be "Writer_Child" or claiming to have gotten codes from "Writer_Child", please know they are not me, are not working tokens, and I do not condone their behavior or harassment and I am so sorry to anyone affected.

I feel so stupid for falling for this, I honestly was just trying to be nice. I will be posting this to each of my tumblr accounts that was associated with my previous ao3 title. I am so sorry to anyone connected to this situation. In hindsight I guess it should have been obvious.

If anyone asks for ao3 codes (that you don't personally know), learn from me and don't engage. Anyone looking to get on ao3 can join a waitlist to create an account. Stay safe out there everyone. Block and report.

This is one of my favourite parts of the whole trilogy. It’s haunting.

And that Pippin takes actually a happy walking song of his people, because Hobbit songs are generally happy and about food and drink and gifts and things, and *transforms* it into a mourning song.

The song is from Fellowship, before all the heavy plot hits and they’re still in the Shire. It’s about walking, and how eventually all the bad things that scare or sadden you will fade away and you’ll be home warm by the fire.

And Pippin takes it, changes the lines, the key, and sings a song that is truly fit for Denethor’s great hall.

Knowing Billy Boyd gave his own melody to it and everyone had chills after hearing him sing it. This is how you get actors involved with the story and character, this is how amazingly well these films were cast. Fans have been singing that haunting tune in echoing halls and caves and towers for 20 years now and it never loses its beauty.

I have a theory that somewhere back up the line gandalf fucked a took. This sounds like complete crack but hear me out. The tooks are rumored to have “fairy blood” which in LOTR terms means either elves or maia. There is an ancestor who’s unusually tall and many of them are noted to live unusually long lives unless they meet with illness or injury, same as the numenorians did. They don’t hve extra pointy ears and elves don’t have a special interest in the line. But who DOES have a special interest in looking after tooks (and bilbo who is a took on his mother’s side/his adopted son frodo)? Gandalf. That dude is ALWAYS fussing over some silly little guy. He regularly brought the old took birthday presents.

Back in the day some bold hobbitess decided to climb that old man and ever since then gandalf has been looking after his line of tiny crazy bastards and no one will convince me otherwise.

there's a line in Fellowship of the Ring (book) where they meet elves and Frodo mentions a saying Hobbits have for elves, which is something like 'to ask an elf a question is to be prepared to hear 'yes' and 'no'.'

i think of this in every Thorin Oakenshield fanfic I come across and I think that Bilbo would've added 'to ask Thorin Oakenshield a question is to be angrily reminded how stupid you are'

Rereading Lord of the rings again and without fail something that always amuses me while Frodo is panicking in Bree over what to do is that both Gandalf in a letter and Aragorn in person both quote a poem Frodo has never heard before and has no context of to try and have him trust Aragorn to let him travel with the hobbits with zero explanation as to what it means and refers to and who he actually is.

And then later on at Rivendell during the council of Elrond when everyone is taking their turn to explain their story, why they came, what their problem is, why they want Elronds help etc. Boromir takes his turn and in response Aragorn just gets up and reveals the broken sword to Boromir and publicly states who he is or who he has claim to be (heir of Isildur, Gondor’s true king). No wonder Boromir didn’t know what to do and is extremely doubtful and unbelieving, as he would be!

And almost in anger and frustration at Boromir, Bilbo, author of said poem referenced without context to Frodo earlier, just shouts it in full to Boromir again with zero context and explanation as if upon hearing it Boromir will naturally understand it and believe Aragorn immediately. Then sits down and explains to Frodo he was the author of said poem, giving both us the reader and Frodo and explanation of authorship

But the whole concept is hilarious to me, imagine being accused of lying by someone and arguing with them and your friend just stands up and shouts a poem they made up about you to that person expecting it to end the argument. I love Bilbo truly but I don’t know what he expected
