The calico is Katarina and the sphinx is Mewsette. These photos are from July 2023, I truly just never post anything for some reason. They’re from AridaBJD on Etsy (she has a YouTube account also), Katarina was a custom order (in terms of eyes and markings etc). Couch and clothes made by me, shoes came with them.
Aro and ace activism is housing reform, is well-funded public housing, is an expansion of affordable housing, is allowing single people to get affordable and public housing, is rent controls to make it possible for single people to be able to afford to live alone on a single salary.
Aro and ace activism is healthcare reform, so that no one needs to rely on a spouse for health insurance, so that healthcare is available to everybody regardless of income, so that no one’s lived experiences or basic dignity are dismissed or overridden by doctors
Aro and ace activism is well-funded and expansive public transit, so that you don’t need to have someone on hand to drive you places if you are incapacitated, so that you don’t have to pay for an ambulance if you need to get to the hospital quickly
Aro and ace activism is disability and elder care services, so that no one needs a spouse to care for them, so that no one needs children to care for them, so that marriage is not a bind for disabled people, so that people on disability who want to and can live alone can
Aro and ace activism is community-building, it’s public events, it’s free social activities, it’s mutual aid, it’s activities that bring community members together without socializing relying on just a romantic partner
Aro and ace activism is developing a culture of believing when people tell you who they are and what they want rather than assuming you know them better than they know themselves
Aro and ace activism means a better world for people without “normative” desires or “normative” social support, which means a better world for everybody
#isn't this just aro activism? like op is right but this is like. about relationships
Quick question do you think ace people don’t have a complicated relationship to relationships. Do you think ace people don’t have a significant incentive to not tie basic quality of life things to having a partner and children. Do you think ace people are respected by doctors or society.
i've been phasing the phrase 'google it' out of my vocabulary and going back to 'look it up'. fuck you youve lost your generic trademark privileges
Can everyone who makes video content do a Deaf bitch a favor? Watch your shit with the captions on and the sound off, and then do another round of editing to fix things including but not limited to:
Captions cover the spot on the screen you put the information I need
The dialogue is captioned but not the song you have playing that the dialogue is responding to
You only captioned the person on the screen, not the person off screen who is also talking
No captioning of critical sound effects (alarms, bells, dogs barking, etc)
Speakers are not labelled at moments where it is not clear on the screen who is talking.
Captions cover the spot on the screen that you put the information I need!
Other d/Deaf people welcome to add.
This post brought to you by the fifth video tutorial I could not follow because the bad, auto-generated captions covered what I was trying to watch today.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
They should invent a way to sit hunched over doing crafts that is Good for your body
awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
that’s not the whole flag, now is it
hey staff what the fuck
hey staff don't you think you're being too on-the-nose
HEY STAFF DONT YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING TOO ON-THE-NOSE

I think you mean, "Work it, GREAT grandma". And she does!

i don't know who needs to hear this, but guilt, self-hatred and shame are not sustainable sources of growth and healing. you can't hate yourself into feeling better, or being better. you can't repeatedly punish yourself for your flawed humanity and expect wholesome results.

Please also have these photos of a rock I saw on my walk to irl ttrpg this Sunday, it is SO lovely.... The sun was dappling over it in such a perfect manner, I stood there and took 10 photos while sweating, due to the heat
Interesting thing about doing this is that I’m not trying to make a skeleton, I’m trying to make… idk, like a skeletal, anatomical figure? Like for the limbs I don’t intend to do bones, I intend to do muscles, bc I think that will be more visually interesting to carve and when it’s sintered and I add miyo (glaze/color) or porcelain that will also be more visually interesting than if I did bones (I also think it’ll be more stable than if I did bones). But that puts me in a weird place with the hip area. Generally with BJD that joint sits approximately where that red line is, bc a doll isn’t a skeleton, it’s a segmented body, and that’s where the crease is when we move our legs. The circle is more or less where the actual joint on a human skeleton would go. So just how skeletal do I make the hips? What do I keep and what do I cut away? Probably this is why one doesn’t generally just wing it while making a bjd lmao
I’m also torn about making those joints and how I want to go about it. It’s not impossible to carve a ball - I mean obviously, that’s functionally what the abdominal part is - but it is kind of a pain. I can (and intend to) add porcelain to the ball or the socket of any part of the doll after it’s sintered to make a better joint, but I’m also considering making the actual balls out of a different material? Either one that’s strong enough to handle moving against/being in tension with the zirconia/porcelain, or using something like polymer clay and then scanning that in and having the mill do the work. There’s options. It doesn’t really matter
I’m not letting myself think about the head yet lmao
