I have to accept that I enjoy watching Troy Tempest a lot despite him sometimes being the worst. He is just so flawed it fun to watch and insult him.

everyone said this before, he is a sexist self-obsessed jerk but the show didn’t present those characteristic in a good light anyway so they are very conscious of their decision on this character

I'll be honest, I have been actively avoiding / blacklisting the anti-Troy posts and the like that have been going on. I'm friends with quite a few people who have been posting them, and I LOATHE being rude, so since I absolutely hate anti-Troy stuff, I've just been noping out of engaging with it and refusing to answer asks I've gotten from people demanding to know why I like Troy or that 'obviously you were being ironic / lying when you said you like him' and the like. I don't want to cause strife by having posts that might come across as rude or 'vague posting', or the like ^^;;

I am biased, of course. Everyone is. I came into Stingray via the novels, then the comics, then finally the show - and I have only ever watched the show in production order... to the point where I FORGET that broadcast order (the evil that it is) EXISTS at times.

But yeah, to quick throw my cap in the ring.

Broadcast order is evil as all Hell. It makes Troy look like he's two-timing and inconsistent, plus a lot of other factors. If you watch Stingray, WATCH IT IN PRODUCTION ORDER, I AM ***BEGGING*** YOU. The love-triangle is actually VERY short lived. It lasts about 10 episodes, then it's over. Troy treats Marina as a FRIEND after that, and sets his cap at Atlanta. The love-triangle also doesn't exist outside of the show. If you came into Stingray via the comics and novels (esp the novels) like me, you would have no real CLUE that Troy was EVER interested in anyone else.

Troy is a good lad, has a heart of gold, is FIERCELY loyal, always willing to speak up for and defend people - even those he doesn't like in the slightest (like when he saves Jordan's bacon), and he treats people with respect - even for the SHORT period where he's trying to figure out which girl he wants to be with, he still treats Marina and Atlanta with respect and BOTH OF THEM like him and are friends with each other. The closest he comes to being sexist is ONE line that is basically grumbling about women being as changable as the sea... when he is alone in his car, after a pretty big fight... and he sent flowers and an apology card to Marina WITHOUT PROMPTING to apologize for ruining her dinner party, and he simply chose NOT TO SPEAK with Atlanta after their fight, never saying anything rude to her or about her... and when Jordan is revealed to be what Troy said he was, Troy apologises to Marina AND GETS HER PERMISSION before tearing into the guy, then is very kind with Atlanta, making sure to include her in the 'best people at WASP' and the like.

He's short tempered, has a FIERY temper, impulsive, and entirely too bold. (so is Atlanta and Sam) He's got a bit of a big head, but he's EARNED a fair bit of it as he 'is the hype' to a fair degree. He also is not sexist. He treats women with respect, and does his best to apologize or make up for instances where his temper flared up / he screwed up. He's flawed, but has a LOT of strengths.

He is, in short, a well rounded and nuanced character, which is WHY I like him as much as I do.

Thank you for giving this insight. I only come into Stringray and do some live reaction to the episode. It’s very amazing to know that there are more depth to his character in the additional material. I actually agree that Troy is one of the most well rounded characters and very interesting to watch his growth in the series itself. I think he learned so much in the later episodes

Anyway I think I do have to go into the novel and comic as you recommended as well

Even in the show, Troy grows and improves in Production Order and has a decent amount of depth for a kids show ^^

The novels esp are really fun. In "Monster of the Deep" Atlanta gets to showcase how damned CLEVER she is, and Troy gets to showcase how clever and fiercely loyal he is too. Phones also gets some AWESOME moments

(actually all the novels are great. I'm so glad they were my introduction to the Anderverse ^^)

...Huh. well, at least the fandom info is.... mostly clearly labeled now, however I must say that there is still a heavy bias / slant present in the various character articles that edges into fanon & speculation in a fair few parts.

I can't find a single bio from TV Century 21, Fleetway, Countdown, or the nCS run that gives them middle names. Some of the other info that is presented as canon (like the World Air Force Special Ops forces being the 'red berets', or even that he was World Air Force Special Ops in the 1960s canon at all, are 100% FANON and not canon, btw. It was nCS that made Paul being Air Force Special Ops canon - and THAT was USA Air Force... the Scarlet Berets. We don't actually know what color the WAF SpecOps is, or even if they have berets).

Basically, I think we should still treat the fandom wiki as 'fanon unless proven otherwise'. Spectrum-headquarters.com (both the Cloudbase / ogCS and Skybase / nCS 'subsites') is a resource I strongly prefer myself, as the fanon is more clearly separated and there is much less bias / slant present in the canon segments.

Rialla is essentially the only surviving part of the twin language Lediv and I had before he really started to talk (it meant warden/guardian and was Lediv's word for me), and Sheng is two fold. Me mishearing a word for lioness in a VERY old movie (no, I can't remember what the film is or what the word ACTUALLY was, sorry ^^;; ) and the Chinese instrument as an old friend of mine jested that I sounded like an ill-tuned one ^^;; (the other nickname I use all the time, Jedi, is just my RL initials)

Spectrum Uniforms

Just making a 'Master Post' that I can hopefully link to from my main tumblr page.

This will be the uniform versions and (once I make them) 'character collage' images.

Characters posted in descending rank order, and for characters of the same rank, descending age.

The highest rating in Spectrum is OF-7 (2 star admiral), there is no OF-1 rating or OR-1 rating, and while there are Warrant Officers, there are only two ranks of Warrant Officer.

Only the Officers are Color Coded (and all Officers are Color Coded). The Enlisted aren't color coded, BUT they have fake names, using surnames that are jobs or structures, etc (Smith, Bridge, etc)

FLAG OFFICERS and SENIOR OFFICERS

Spectrum's ranks are set up to be rather opaque / confounding to those outside of Spectrum to a greater or lesser degree as one of the measures of protection for the members of the organization.

The rank / rating insignia are purposefully understated, and there is rank title sharing between of5 & of4 (captain), and of3 & of2 (Lieutenant)

The ranks are also overall unique. While I did change the rank title on Colonel White to Admiral White, that was due to the fact that a Colonel is an of5 essentially world wide, and even if he wasn't REALLY that rank, the fact remains that White would be treated as said rank by everyone he worked with, which actually would cause issues on the regular.

Thus, Colonel White became Admiral White, using Naval ranking rather than Army because White had been Navy prior to Spectrum, AND because doing so had the added bonus of bumping the Captains from of3 up to of5.

Destiny Angel Juliette Pontoin 2030 - Aug - 23 (Destiny is the highest ranked of the Angels. My annual was damaged by a coffee stain, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I found out that'd I'd misread Destiny's birthyear for decades ^^;; I just kept myficverse Destiny with the 'wrong' birth year simply because it's what I'm used to for her)

Captain Brown Stephen Blackburn 2033 - Jan - 14 (While I originally used Brown's canon name of Alan Stephens, when I switched the TV21 Zero X comics crew with Spectrum characters (Black, Destiny, Brown, Goldenrod), Brown was showing up too often and having his real name used too much and it became too easy to mix him up with Alan Tracy, so I used his surname for his given name, and used the popular fanon surname for his surname)

Captain Ochre Richard Fraser* 2035 - Feb - 23 (Ochre was not born Richard Fraser, as well as his appearance, he changed his name with Operation Jigsaw. He was born Matthew McClaine, son of Joe McClaine (aka Joe 90) and grandson of Matthew Harding (The Secret Service).

Captain Saffron Elaine Jenkins 2035 - May - 11 (nCS Captain Ochre, as I merged nCS and ogCS, AND I adored Lady Ochre... I just don't like it when characters that are basically OCs use pre-existing character names... thus, Lady Ochre needed a new Color Code ^^. Her surname was changed to Jenkins as a tip of the hat to Leroy Jenkins, casue she is SO VERY MUCH a Leroy Jenkins type of character XD )

Captain Olive Mariah Blackburn 2035 - Oct - 15 (My only OC this high a rank, and the ONLY reason she's an of-5 is that I have her as the commander of Koala Base, and she needed to be a high enough rank for that. She's a background / support character, but she was Captain Brown's wife, and is the mother of Starbuck "Buck" Blackburn - the second Captain Brown)

There was time schennannigins that occurred at Koala Base inbetween S2 (the end of teh ogCS rewrite) and S3 (the start of the nCS rewrite) that had a 'Time Bubble' go up. Inside the Time Bubble, 20 years occur for Koala Base, where-as only 4 years pass outside the Time Bubble. Which results in the son of Captain Brown and Captain Olive to be an adult when the Bubble is eventually defeated / dropped. Buck received full training during the 20 year span, and once all was said and done, he was made a Color Captain - taking up his father's Color Code by his request.

When all was said and done and the Bubble went down, she was 20 eyars older, didn't feel safe remaining a pilot in her 50s, but wanted to remain active in Spectrum and thus took over melee combat training on Koala Base from the retiring Captain Hemp)

While she was 'present' the whole time, she doesn't really come into full focus until the 'second half' of the series, which is the nCS half. The reason she doesn't look like / doesn't use the nCS Green rig is that by sheer chance Lt Green sounds IDENTICAL to my IRL friend (and fellow massive CS fangirl) Mbali... and Mbali has Vitiligo and so I ended up making 'our' version of the character have vitiligo as well... but I COULD NOT get the vitiligo to look right on greens actual model / rig so hunted around till I found a RL person with the condition and used that for Sage ^^;; )

When MonsterKamo and I set out to subtitle every French episode of Code Lyoko in early 2022, we had every intention of seeing it through to the end. Unfortunately, good intentions and the love of a story can only take you so far. Even with the additional teammates we acquired along the way, our updates have slowed. The last time we posted was close to a year ago by now, and the reason isn't hard to guess: put simply, our lives have changed.

MonsterKamo is doing professional translation work. My time is split between writing my novel and my day job. None of us have heard a peep from victor1139 in ages; we can only hope he's alright. AdPro, Ruth, and Flo all have their own responsibilities, and with only so many hours in a day, we have to prioritize being adults over the adventures of kids with big foreheads and raging hormones. So...

Is Carthage Subbing done forever?

Maybe.

I want to leave the door open in case we can ever come back to it. This project is important to me, and I think that goes for the rest of us as well. But we can't guarantee anything.

The one silver lining to all this is that we have a number of mostly finished subtitle files. We never got around to translation-checking and proofreading them, but if we're going dark anyway, there's no reason not to post them, albeit without video. You'll have to find video files and apply the subs on your own. That will be its own post, which will also include a link to @4th-grader's page for Carthage Subbing on the Internet Archive.

Thank you so much to everyone who watched our subtitles over the last few years. We're all truly grateful truly we got to fill this niche in the Code Lyoko fandom. We know a lot of you were looking forward to experiencing the entire show this way, and that some were even watching it for the first time this way. We're truly sorry it has to end.
