animations of various things I like from Yume Nikki, for fun
Hello sir tit, I would like some art homework, pretty please! I'm finding myself very caught up in the sketch stage and then not being able to move outside of it, and getting very irritated when I try to line my sketch. Eventually everything I draw just ends up unfinished and I'm not happy with any of it.
I can feel myself settling back into art block after trying to dig myself out of it for the past 4 years. Finished maybe 2 or 3 pieces late last year and this year combined, and at this point just considering it luck that I actually got them completed at all.
Going back to the basics might make me upset, but it may need to be done. Either way, I really love art and drawing, I've just found myself in a funk and it's made enjoying what I love to do very hard.
(also may or may not be an important fact, but I was drawing nsfw regularly before art block, and trying to get back into drawing nsfw again.)
step 1: diagnose why you find yourself getting frustrated. are you putting a lot of clean up and effort into your sketch to put off inking? does your lineart feel stiff compared to the sketch? do you not like the feel of your ink brush? figure out where your pain point is. when does the drawing stop being fun?
step 2: reevaluate your artistic goals. what do you want your art to look like? what kind of art do you like to look at? is there an artist whose work gets close that you can study? figuring out where you're trying to go is an important step in figuring out how to get there.
step 3: change what you're doing. if you're doing a lot of cleanup to the sketch and don't enjoy the lineart process, consider whether you even need to ink it. cleaned sketch lines with nice colors or shading can look perfectly good. or maybe you could consider a lineless style, and try to work with the lasso tool. basically, if what you're doing right now isn't working, just try something else. i'm a little bored with my personal style, so i've been trying new brushes and taught myself pixel animation, and it's been very exciting and fresh to do something new. and there's always the "well i've only tried this a couple times, i don't expect to be great at it" excuse you can tell yourself if you don't master it immediately.
actual homework exercises you can do
you're going to draw goblins. what "goblin" means is up to you, i don't mean my goblins, i mean whatever funny little idiots come into your mind. you're going to do it three ways.
set a timer for 45 minutes. how far into the drawing can you get in 45 minutes, working at your usual pace and with your usual methods? it's important you don't try to go fast. you're diagnosing what you can do.
set a timer for 45 minutes. you Have to finish the drawing in 45 minutes. now you're allowed to try to go fast. what is the best way for you to accomplish this? drawing it straight with a pen and committing to your lines? making a really nice sketch? "finished" means a full body, but it doesn't have to mean inked or colored. do your best, but also don't be discouraged if the final product isn't perfect. we don't want perfect, we want done.
you have unlimited time. if you have an artist whose work you want to look like, sit down and figure out how they would draw a goblin, and try to execute on it. what brushes would they use? what textures? what color palette? what stylistic symbols? again, we aren't looking for a perfect imitation, but to think about what you like and how to achieve it. figuring out what you like about the process is how you find the fun.
think on those three steps and draw those three goblins and see where you're at. if nothing else you'll now have three funny goblins.
after doing the flats u can add a clipping mask then use the alcohol brush to paint the colors back in
Shel Silverstein predicting ChatGPT in 1981
tbh i think this poem is better served with the *whole* picture, don't you?
...Oh yeah.
I love this blog so much for basically being an enormous library of interior background references but MAN. There is something Vile and Poetic about that saying being painted on the wall of one of the bleakest-looking school hallways I've seen in a long time. It's like that poem about the stars being painted over in landlord white. Incredible.
Y'know how they say a child writes the best poetry before they learn what poetry is "supposed" to look like? I think a visual artist makes the best visual art before they learn how well it would sell if they made an enamel pin of a possum saying "be gay do crimes"
Being an artist in 2026:
Have artblock
Realize you might not be able to do art professionally because of capitalism + rise of AI + you're not that good anyway
Revert to drawing your OCs from when you were 17 to get out of the art slump
Find cool picture on Pinterest to do a study of
Finish the piece and planning to post it alongside the reference
Realize the reference is AI
Panic
Why am I so stupid it was so fucking obvious !!!!! Why does grandpa have the fingernails of an IG baddie!!
Post the drawing anyway on tumblr dot com

Phanartists realizing that at any given moment they could see their nsfw art and just send it to each other cause that’s something they do apparently:
My nb butch OC Amelia, you're welcome @ the 3 ppl who will see this 🐻🐻🐻💓💓💓
in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly
