happy birthday, mollsolverson! use your birthday money to put a bullet in the barrel of your best guy’s gun!!
steve “literal ray of sunshine and morning person” rogers getting a pillow thrown at his head by sam “its the weekend just gimme one morning off” wilson
over the course of the mcu, there are only two people we see who can ask steve a direct question about his emotional state and get a completely honest answer from him with zero bluffing or misdirection or dismissal
the first is peggy carter
the second is sam wilson
Ive been going through the tags/comments on that post, I’m going to adress the main concerns I have seen:
Fox owns the X-men, Marvel Studios does not. The only reason Marvel is able to use these characters is because they have never been members of the x-men. The copyright prevents the twins from being called mutant, it in no way affects their ethnicity or (for the most part) their backstory
Being Jewish is an ethnicity. Not all practicing Jews oare of ethnic Jewish descent, and not all Jews of ethnic Jewish descent practice or even acknowledge it.
I did not write the original post based on the trailer, I made it this summer after more information was released about the twins, including the fact that they volunteer to work with HYDRA.
HYDRA has been a Nazi/Neo-Nazi group for over 50 years, Baron von Strucker as well. And the Red skull has been an avid Nazi for 73 years. The MCU cannot erase this with just a few movies.
It is based on those facts, and because the MCU twins seem to support HYDRA that I called them neo-nazis (which I admit was a bit too much, but I was very upset at the time)
When we are introduced to the twins in the comic, they are fleeing for their lives, persecuted for being both mutants and Roma. They are taken in by Magneto (they do not find out he is their father for a while) and join his Brotherhood
Elizabeth Olsen has been very ableist in her description of Wanda
It seems likely that Whedon chose these characters to play with the psychotic waif/overprotective sibling trope like he did on Firefly (madripoor sums it up pretty well here)
Here is a good masterpost talking about the maximoffs, the importance of their cultural identity, and the whitewashing.
A masterpost of what being Jewish actually means
when I think about steve and natasha and sam doing cute things together i like fall over and die
#mE #ABOUT ME #ALJGKSF #natasha x sam x steve #buying groceries together and making salads for dinner and throwing cherry tomatoes at each others heads #and watching movies and arguing about which one of them would be drift compatible #and falling asleep in cuddle piles and accidentally leaving shirts all over steve’s apartment #and even more accidentally buying toothbrushes and moving them into steve’s bathroom #but steve doesn’t even SAY anything so whatever #[the dorky grin he gets when he sees them SHALL NOT BE SPOKEN OFF] #and sparring together and natasha and sam discussing weaponry and steve making pancakes and nat stealing sam’s bacon #aND THEM ACCIDENTALY ON PURPOSE DOMESTICATING THEMSELVES IN STEVE’S APARTMENT AND WHATEVER IT’S CLOSEST TO THE OFFICE DON’T EVEN LOOK AT ME #natsamsteve kills the man (via katsofmeer)
If you need any help with the nothing, let me know.
#oh my god no #maria who are you crying for? #at this point did she know? #was she crying for herself and what she’d lost? #for what her life’s work had come to? #for what came to fury? #for what natasha must have been feeling at that moment? #for having to lie to steve? #for adding yet another moment that divides steve and natasha’s lives into a ‘before’ and ‘after’? (via regionsofkindness)
Okay but...
At the end of The First Avenger, Fury is the first dude to walk up to Steve and say, “Sorry to tell you this, but you’ve been asleep for a long time.” At the beginning of The Avengers, Nick drags Steve into the fight, cajoles him, they even have a fun joke bet. Then in The Winter Soldier, Nick trusts Steve over everyone else, goes to him for help, talks to him like a peer, takes his advice.
Steve’s sole interaction with Coulson’s has been “creepy guy who has my cards and died.”
Why do so many people make these relationships the other way around?
#nick fury is steve’s touchstone for the 21st century
#nick fury is the entire soul and backbone of the avengers dot tumblr dot com (americachavez)
More about how, especially now that their relationship has taken some serious blows and withstood the the test, Nick and Steve become something more like friends. Nick still doesn’t trust easily, but he has a tender spot he can’t deny for his protegees (Natasha is like a daughter to him) and he has a huge soft spot for Steve as well as a belief in him that’s part idealism (Nick believes in heroes) and part a sense of responsibility for this vulnerable guy plucked out of time. Nick and Steve hanging out as peers for the first time, riding the subway together, Fury reminiscing how he can remember when Steve didn’t even know how to use a metro card. Steve rolling his eyes, oh PLEASE. Steve mixing a drink for Nick at his place and they just chill out and maybe Nick is actually a big fan of old music, so they listen to records and Steve has been wanting to tell Nick that they may have differences, but he really respects him and he feels like he’s never really properly expressed his gratitude for all Nick has done for him personally. And Steve wants Nick to know he never thought for a moment that what Pierce had said about him was true- Nick saying sharply that Steve is a damn fool: he had no reason to trust him, and it’s exactly that kind of blind trust that’s gonna get Steve killed someday. Then pausing while Steve looks downcast, clinking the ice in his glass, and saying "…But thanks." And Steve looks up to Nick’s most genuine smile.
I just don’t understand where this concept of ‘fake geek girls’ came from. Like, AT ALL.
Cus when I look for fandom related stuff like 90% of the fan art and the fanfiction and the meta, zines, comics, etc. Like 90% of the shit that I’ve seen is created by women & girls.
And all that stuff take’s a lot of work and research and critical analysis and staring at reference photos for hours.
We are literally the most well versed and invested group in the fandom. So, like, What the fuck boys? You mad you can’t keep up?
I saw an argument, and I can’t find it now, but it totally made sense, that there’s a gender split in fandom. Male fandom tends to be a curator fandom; male fandom collects, organizes, and memorizes facts and figures. Male fandom tends to be KEEPERS of the canon; the fandom places great weight on those who have the biggest collection, the deepest knowledge of obscure subjects, the first appearances, creators, character interactions.
Female fandom is creative. Females create fanart, cosplay, fanwritings. Female fandom ALTERS canon, for the simple reason that canon does not serve female fandom. In order for it to fit the ‘outsider’ (female, queer, POC), the canon must be attacked and rebuilt, and that takes creation.
"Male" fandom devalues this contribution to fandom, because it is not the ‘right’ kind of fandom. "Girls only cosplay for attention, they’re not REAL fans!" "Fanfiction is full of stupid Mary Sues, girls only do it so they can make out with the main character!" "I, a male artist, have done this pin-up work and can put it in my portfolio! You, a female artist, have drawn stupid fanart, and it’s not appropriate to use as a professional reference!"
In the mind of people who decry the ‘fake geek girl,’ this fandom is not as worthy. It damages, or in their mind, destroys the canon. What is the point of memorizing every possible romantic entanglement of heterosexual white Danny Rand if someone turns around and creates a fanwork depicting him as a bisexual female of Asian descent (thus subverting Rand’s creepy ‘white savior’ origins)? When Danny Rand becomes Dani Rand, their power is lessened. What is important to them ceases to be the focus of the discussion. Creation and curatorship can work in tandom, but typically, in fandom, they are on opposite poles.
This is not to say that there aren’t brilliant male cosplayers or smashing female trivia experts, this is to say that the need of the individual fan is met with opposing concepts: In order for me to find myself in comics, I need to make that space for myself, and that is a creative force. Het white cis males are more likely to do anything possible to defend and preserve the canon because the canon is built to cater to them.
This is genuinely the best post I have ever read.
Comment bolded by me because effing important that’s why.
