Whoever has learned how to listen to trees no longer wants to be a tree. He wants to be nothing except what he is. That is home. That is happiness.
some of yall use "amab" and "afab" as like, a woke substitute for "male" and "female" and its real weird. agab terminology is useful for talking about like, your personal life experiences and very specifically medical and legal problems you might run into. if you use it to describe a stranger then you're just going back to gender essentialism in a new hat. and implying you can clock everyone, to boot.
listen i am more than aware that hormonal birth control can do fucky things to your brain and body. i have been there and i have dealt with it and i don't take that lightly. but i do want to say that if you're sexually active and can get pregnant, the last people online you should be listening to are the "divine femininity" cryptofash tradgirl influencers who are spouting leftist-sounding rhetoric while telling you to throw out your birth control and "just track your cycles naturally" at a time when it's functionally impossible to get an abortion in many states. i cannot stress this enough. these people are white supremacists who have learned to cloak their right-wing, reject-modernity beliefs in language that sounds appealing to the left, and they are winning, and you need to be really vigilant about the influencers and messaging you are following and consuming and helping give more of a platform. because this shit is everywhere and women are going to die because of it.
can't help but think that a lot of the issues with how insular online communities conceive of neurodivergence stem from how the discourse necessitates the imagined existence of a mythic group of âneurotypicalsâ cogently and unambiguously free of the social knottiness that certain neurodivergences can entail (âall âneurotypicalsâ experience X,â âno âneurotypicalsâ experience Y,â etc) rather than understanding neurotypicality as an enforced social norm to which we are all expected to comply and fall short of to varying degrees
I have a friend who is a med student of neurobiology and she said that there really is no such thing as a "neurotypical" and the term is extremely unhelpful. There is no "typical," but there is an average, however it's very rare for somebody to embody that average. To put it another way, if one person has 4 apples and another person has 6 apples, the average is 5 apples, however neither of these people has 5 apples. And considering that the brain has millions of factors going on, it's unlikely that any individual would be average along every single one of those axis. What we consider "neurodivergence" is being outside of the commonly accepted range of deviation from the average. What nondisabled people think of as mental disability is when that deviation from the average impacts other people. What disabled people consider disability is when these deviations cause personal distress regardless of proximity to the average and would be distressing even with environmental changes.
She went on to say that even people who fall within that neuro average aren't the ones making the rules for what is typical, and unofficially dubbed them neuropowerful. Once people have power, they can impose their ideas as the standard regardless of whether it's the average or not. They're outliers whose experience (both internally and externally) has been allowed to set the standards by which many (even most) people fall short, even those close to the "average." The same is true for physical characteristics. If more than half the population is "overweight," who determined what the acceptable weight is? Because it definitely isn't *average* to the population. I know a lot of disabled and neurodivergent people flock to each other, but sometimes you realize everyone you know has some kind of major divergence, and nobody is in fact "neurotypical."
This isn't to say that all a "neurodivergent" person needs to be okay is a different environmental/cultural/societal structure. For some, ADHD/Autism are disabling, but for others, it isn't, even if it's the same level of deviation in the same environment. For me, personally, it's a bit of both. I would benefit greatly from shifting cultural expectations as far as being able to meet my obligations, but my ADHD would still hurt me in moments when I want to do something for personal enjoyment and executive dysfunction will not let me get off the couch. I would benefit from a world that is not so depressing all the time, but I would still have days when I struggle to get out of bed because my brain is physically not set up to do serotonin.
tl;dr, human brains are way too complex to fit into categories like "neurotypical," "neurodivergence" is simply a more extreme deviation from the average, and we do not even use the average as the actual standard of what our brains are expected to be.
Makes me think of the 99% Invisible episode about averages, and how they mess with our sense of what averages are.
What nondisabled people think of as mental disability is when that deviation from the average impacts other people. What disabled people consider disability is when these deviations cause personal distress regardless of proximity to the average and would be distressing even with environmental changes.
Iâm gonna have to sit with that for a minute.

saw a post abt HBO removing shows that suggests ppl just âburn dvdsâ but everyone doesnt know how to do that so here is one way to do that
- get blank dvds (Both +R or -R work, I think +R is slightly cheaper, the difference is rewritability), these are not very expensive for the amount you can get in bulk (if you are in the US 100 of them is about 30$ at walmart)
- an external DVD drive that plugs in via usb is also around 20-40$ (it tends to be closer to 20)
- download DVDFlick (free)
- if you donât already have the mp4/mpeg of whatever media you want to burn, you can download movies/shows off of sites like gomovies.sx and soap2day
gomovies.sx will have a download button that looks like this
below the video you can choose one of these
if you click streamlare for example and then the download button it will take you here where the mp4 is
(if youâre on an iphone/ipad, clicking download will save it to your files app)
- if you cant find the download button on soap2day you can also install a video downloader extension which will find the movie for you
- at this point you can drag and drop it into a google drive or keep it on your computer but if you still want it on dvd ->
- open dvd flick, drag and drop the video
- click âproject settingsâ
- give it whatever title you want, you can change encoder to ânormalâ (default is below normal if you are doing other things on the computer). you dont need to change target size or thread count (unless you want to)
- insert a blank dvd into your drive, make sure you click âburn project to discâ
- click accept then click âcreate dvdâ next to menu and project settings. it will create a destination folder and this dialogue box will pop up when you click âcreateâ on more dvds, just click âyesâ and then âokayâ on the box that appears after it
itâll take a couple hours, once its done take a sharpie & write whats on it and stick it in a case . or dont . im not ur mom
đŤ check the notes for my replies i am no longer asking đŤ

love that genres of posts where someone has screenshotted the text of a tiktok bc the actual video is irrelevant, so its just a text post with extra forehead.
ALSO. on the concept of funky genders. "socially unacceptable" genders or "genderweird" people i love you. transmascs who are girls i love you. transfems who are men i love you. transmascs who feel transfem and transfems who feel transmasc i love you. everyone who feels like their gender is too "weird" or "complicated" or are an "oxymoron or self-contradictory" i love you and we are all trans and good and community and perfect ok.
Iâm watching that documentary âBefore Stonewallâ about gay history pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.
The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed psychologists, a police officer, and one âknown homosexualâ. The âknown homosexualâ is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.
So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that thereâs nothing wrong with him mentally and heâs never been arrested. When asked whether heâd take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether his family knows heâs gay, he says that they didnât up until tonight, but he guesses theyâre going to find out, and heâll probably be fired from his job as well. So of course the host is like âŚwhy are you doing this interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says âI think that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself.â
1954. 22 years old. Balls of pure titanium.
Despite the pseudonym, Daleâs boss did indeed recognize him from the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten a new job at a higher salary.
Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further. It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that, but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudsonâs disclosure had a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the U.S.
It appears that no one has made the connection between Dale Olson the publicity agent instrumental in the AIDS debate and Dale Olson the 22-year-old first openly gay man on TV. So I thought Iâd make it. For Pride month, an unsung gay hero.
RATING: RELIABLE
you can listen to the clip of the 1954 interview here and find him on wikipedia here
Hot take: The much quieter level of corporate Pride this year is not worth celebrating.
Not because I want to spend my dollars on Pride merch sold by corporations that donât care, but because the near-absence of corpo Pride is a canary in the coal mine. Corpo Pride is a barometer of sorts for social acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community. If Corpo Pride goes away, it should be because being LGBTQ+ is so normalized and seen as âno big dealâ that thereâs no message to âsellâ anymore; but whatâs happening now is NOT that.
What IS happening then? Because I'm confused
What is happening is not that corporations are winding down the Pride displays and merch due to Pride being no big deal anymore because we live in a society where LGBTQ+ people are just seen as the same as everybody else.
What is happening is corporations are staying away from Pride because public shows of acceptance of LGBTQ+ people now comes at a much higher cost. For corporations, that cost is monetary. For people, that cost is physical violence - and I'm not saying it's new that people have been violent towards the LGBTQ+ community. I'm saying the violence is now much more widespread, and isn't just aimed at the community anymore, but at anybody who either supports the community or LOOKS LIKE they might belong to the community. Corporations deciding not to display rainbow logos and merch is just a sign of how bad things have actually gotten in the last few years.
TL;DR : Corporations "supported" us when it was easy. That many no longer visibly do so means it's no longer easy to do it. That's not a good thing.
