A foe could Iron Maiden me through the arm holes with an arrow 100 feet off. Had to pawn the fucking thing for change. A Phoenix Set.

And some of us are stupider. Petrichor looted The Harness of Hermes off some dead sod and the damn things were 2 sizes too small for his feet. I said “Petrichor your mother named you for wet mud, don’t prove you have the mental faculties to match” not that he listened. Bled his heels off every second mission wearing those. “Why should I care of the ills of man’s feet when I can walk as Hermes on the clouds?” Because it burns 0.1 mana per full wing’ed stride and Pet never had more than half a decent man’s mana. He walked more than he ever “strode the air.” Died of gangrene 6 months later. You guessed it! Foot infection. I wouldn’t be so mad but Pet was our only archer and we lost 2 good soldiers to ranged attacks a month later.

Fucking Pet. Anyway. You’re full of horseshit. “Just happened” to loot a whole fitted set. Of Divine Invention no less. “Ah what a skilled lad, wise in both will and way, to defeat a wearer of Divine Invention unscathed” that’s what you want people to think. You don’t want to admit you spent all your coin on a custom suit. Or daddy’s money maybe hmm? It’s a custom tailor job. Not a knick in the armor even. As a society, we need to go back to understanding that strangers on the internet are, you know, strangers. I feel lately that I'm seeing a rise in 'An author I love blocked me because they took my comment the wrong way' posts on the ao3 subreddit, and then the comment is them calling the author a fucking bitch or something like that.

Don't do this. Tone doesn't translate well in text, and if you don't have a rapport with that author, they are not going to interpret, 'You're a fucking bitch' as, 'Author I hate you for being so talented and making me feel so keenly.' They're going to interpret it as you being an asshole. You can shit talk with your friends because you have an established relationship with them and can distinguish between playful banter and genuine anger. You do not have this with a stranger, no matter how much you like their fics. You will have a much more pleasant time in fandom and not get cockblocked from interacting with your favorite writers if you remember this.

i had a thought of "do people not know what AUs are anymore?" and then i remembered nobody explains fandom stuff to new people anymore so it is entirely plausible people genuinely don't know what AUs are and nobody has explained it to them, so for today's lucky 10,000:

"AU" stands for "Alternate Universe" or "Alternative Universe" (same difference) and is basically any thought scenario for a fandom that isn't canon and can't fit within the canon universe. If it takes place in the canon universe but something is notably different, that is typically what's known as a "Canon divergent AU," because it diverges from canon.

an AU can be absolutely anything. There's a couple of widespread pan-fandom au scenarios that often get thrown around, like coffee shop aus, genderbend aus, hanahaki aus (hanahaki is a whole thing in itself i'd recommend researching on your own), etc. One you might hear sometimes is "crossover AU" which is when you have characters from one fandom interacting with characters from another.

You can have as many aus as you want. They can be whatever you want and you can do whatever you want in them. It's a sandbox for you to play around in and explore how things would be different or how the characters would act in those circumstances or environments. Maybe they have different relationships with each other. Maybe they behave slightly differently. Or you can just say "Okay, [x] is true. How did they get here? How would things have to be different for this to occur?" which can also be fun.

If you are ever confused about why people ship something that seems completely out of the blue or doesn't make sense to you in the canon setting, there's a good chance they like it in an AU setting! Not everything everybody is interacting with is necessarily the canon! Not everybody wants things to exist in canon and just want to explore playing dolls in a different sandbox and that's okay. And their sandbox might look a lot different than yours, and that's also okay. You have the freedom to make your sandbox whatever you please. Do whatever you want forever. Get funky with it. AUs are fun.
