hm........ debating whether or not i should make a Post
white people cannot decide what is and isnt racist
white people cannot decide when poc are reaching when they make criticisms of people/media/trends/etc
white people absolutely cannot consider themselves allies if they dont listen to the voices of poc
white people need to listen to the voices of poc OUTSIDE of their friend group
white people need to be aware that their input in discussions of racism is not nearly as valuable as they think it is
white people benefit from racism, and should give careful thought to this fact if they truly desire to limit racism
criticisms of racism should never be characterized as an attack on a white person
when someone points out racism in your behavior, your reaction should be to at LEAST examine your behavior, not to defend yourself or look for excuses
when a discussion is going on about racism and some other type of oppression (lets say, for example, ableism), and you, a white and mentally ill person, want to contribute to the discussion, MAKE an EFFORT to at least ACKNOWLEDGE both types of oppression and not just ableism in your contribution, ESPECIALLY if youre disagreeing with a criticism of racism in mentally ill white people (in fact, if youre at all a white person denying the possibility of racism in your behavior you should probably keep your mouth shut <3)
white people truly dedicated to limiting racism need to take action to limit racism EVEN when its inconvenient! EVEN when it hurts their pride! EVEN when it doesnt seem significant! half assed allyship is not allyship
white people feeling a sense of pride over being an ally, self proclaimed or not, is fucking gross.
poc are not OBLIGATED to contribute to limiting racism
poc do not have to be nice to you for you to acknowledge them
poc do not owe you anything- not explanations, not guidance through your behavior, not empathy, not attention, not assurance, nothing
if you dont have any friends of color, or you dont seem to know any poc at all, theres likely a reason for that. examine it
if poc tend to be unfriendly toward you, theres DEFINITELY a reason for that oh my god
in conclusion white people need to stop with their self victimizing, their baseless pride, and their unwillingness to take a good look at themselves. you can do better.
your first and most pressing concern should be for the safety of black people. it should be for justice. it should be in making this not just a moment but a reshaping of cultural bias.
this is not a fun little game for you to trot around flipping off cops and making light of a situation you were never effected by. it is not your chance to have a little bit of adventure in the middle of a quarantine. i am speaking as an author and i am telling you to stop fucking making this about katniss or harry potter or whatever - you can be shaped by media, sure, but this is not and has never been about you roleplaying your favorite action heroes. this is not another “disaster of 2020″. this is not a quirky instagram post, it’s not a chance for you to meet up with your friends, it’s not a tactic to get your tiktok trending.
this is about racial injustice. this is about the entire system that is built on that injustice and grows fat on that injustice. don’t get distracted. the police force is not the only systemically racist organization.
black lives matter. and we do not stop until every organization recognizes that and actually acts on it.
developing story relating to the protests, i’m still digging through twitter trying to figure this stuff out as i go
okay so there was some buzz about “armed black panthers” showing up at the protests-
naturally, i was hoping this was members of the New Afrikan Black Panther Party (maoist) and not the New Black Panther Party (reactionary) (yes there are two different politically opposite revivals of the Black Panther Party and yes this does get confusing)
later i learned that the buzz was that the panthers in question were not affiliated with the NABPP and thus were probably associated with the NBPP. further bad news came in the form of this photo:
this photo of course inspired condemnation of the NBPP, and was pointed to as a demonstration that reactionary nationalism fails to be liberatory- which is true, but then there was buzz from the NBPP-supporting side of twitter that they don’t know who this is and don’t co-sign her actions. furthermore, the patches used by this group:
don’t match those used by the NABPP or the NBPP.
so there are a lot of questions still remaining, but it seems that either there is yet another group reviving the BPP name, or, more likely, this entire scenario is a psy-op staged by the police themselves.
someone says they tracked down their instagrams and found out that they’re all actors and models, but i still don’t have confirmation of this yet.
oh also i forgot to mention this but not only is that patch not used by any of the various revivalist black panther groups but it’s actually used by the 66th Infantry Division of the US Army
they’re all actors btw

[[This is Isaiah Hine’s high school presentation on white fragility. You’re not going to get a simpler explanation, in my opinion, so if you’re white you should really read this. Below are Isaiah’s notes on each slide.]]
—
What is White Fragility?
Robin DiAngelo is a professor at Westfield State University and author of What Does it Mean to Be White? Developing White Racial Literacy.
I’m sure you’ve all seen these ‘defensive moves’ in action before. “I didn’t mean anything by it” “I wasn’t trying to be offensive” “I have a black friend” “Not all white people”
People are often more worried about being called a racist than actually doing something racist. In America white people often don’t even have to consider race. They often think of themselves as “raceless” white is conditioned to be the norm and everyone else is considered “raced” or “colored”. White fragility allows white people to govern when and how race is discussed. White people expect to be educated on racism, and in a nice way.
—
Why Is It A Bad Thing?
White people never learn as a result and are allowed to continue saying and doing racist things. White people prefer to hear these things from other white people but because other white people don’t know enough about racism, they cycle continues. When people of color do things like the BLACKLIVESMATTER movement, many white peoples responses were “all lives matter” this is white fragility. Proclaiming that black lives matter does not inherently mean that other lives don’t. This statement is made because society continually shows us that black lives don’t matter in america and these are the lives that need the affirming. We already know that white lives matter, it doesn’t need to be stated. White people are very used to being the center of things and when they aren’t it makes them uncomfortable.
—
Why Does This Happen?
Most people don’t fully grasp the idea of systemic racism and that we live in a racist society that perpetuates racist ideas. We are socialized into white supremacy.
REBLOG!!!! SPREAD THIS PLS!!! EVERYONE IN OR AROUND VIDOR PLEASE STAY SAFE!!!
Hey I hadn’t seen this tip yet so I got nervous:
If you have ANY sort of allergy to a medication, and you plan on protesting please write it in sharpie on your body somewhere. I was taught to write it on my left forearm so it’s easily accessible to medics
(Also if you have any allergy that causes a serious reaction you need to write it down)
Yes! Same thing with chronic illnesses. If you’re a diabetic and you decide to protest, write it on your person. Epilleptic and other seizure disorders, asthma, cancer, kidney disease, sleep apnea, bone disorders, arthritis...don’t depend on a med bracelet, that can get snatched off your wrist by police. And also any meds that you are currently on. Write it on your person with a permanent marker/sharpie, so that if you’re unconscious/otherwise can’t tell the medics/ER staff, they’ll know and be able to treat you properly, and give you the care you need, and avoid giving you stuff that can interact with your current meds.
That said, please consider whether your being at a protest will be more of a hindrance than a help. There’s plenty to do otherwise to help! Design signs that protestors can print out. Use your social media platforms. Call elected representatives. Donate to bail funds, if you’re able to. Consider opening your home to protestors if they get kettled in your neighborhood, to shelter them from the police; or it can be a place to rest, use the bathroom, etc. If you have face masks or other PPE consider donating them to protestors, or exra medical supplies that would be useful for first aid, consider donating them to street medics. You can even hand out water to protestors, not only to drink but also to wash away police chemicals used on their persons (tear gas, pepper spray). This is a team effort; think of the protestors as the captains, they can’t do it alone, they need other people on the team AND a support echelon.
If you're on metformin for any reason, make sure you have this written down as well. If you should be injured in a way that requires surgery, the wrong anaesthetic could combine with the metformin to push you into lactic acidosis and kill you.
