"The personal is the political" was meant to summarize how women realized they weren't beset by personal failures but were being failed by society as a whole. I'm not the biggest fan of that phrase being used for like, how Posting Is Activism and subsequently Not Posting is Collusion

Also frankly not the biggest fan of how people apply this to kinks. Like I don't think anybody can (or realistically would?) argue that kinks aren't formed by or reflects cultural norms and like, sure, it's worth asking yourself if that impacts your relationships with others, but also like. I don't think NOT indulging in said kink is an example of some kind of morally laudable act of Boldly Confronting The Political Within The Personal. I know the loose outcome these people are hoping for is like, you lock yourself in a room like an anchorite and go "IT'S PROBLEMATIC. TO CUM TO THIS" until you emerge newly born and interested in respectful and vanilla sex but that's not realistic and also not particularly related to the original phrase either
