people always talk about the extreme no homo mentality in guys sports teams but don’t talk about the severe lesphobia in girls sports teams. growing up playing team sports really fucked me up as a kid. straight girls i’ve played with were always scared of being perceived as gay for being athletic and because of the stereotypes of lesbians in certain sports. this was universal in the 3 sports i played: volleyball, softball, and basketball.
there were always strict unwritten rules about how you presented yourself while playing. for instance the ribbon in the hair for softball and a bow in your ponytail for volleyball. if you didn’t prove your femininity while playing you were a lesbian. there was so much effort in not being seen as a lesbian and proving that you /weren’t/ a lesbian was really important.
girls would always talk shit about girls with short hair on opposing teams. “we’re playing the team with the d*ke” was something i heard often as a kid. something i still heard in high school. being a lesbian in girls sports teams is predominantly what made me feel trapped in the closet in high school. I only felt comfortable coming out after i quit sports altogether
so if we could stop acting like straight girls have less of a stake in homophobia that’d be great
Polite
I was interested to know whether there had been any noticeable uptick in searches for “the cask of amontillado” since this meme began and while there has, it’s the exact same uptick which has occurred every fall in recent memory as high school teachers have geared up for their spooky october literature units
it looks very similar to a reading of a heartbeat…..a specific heart…..that won’t stop beating……..from under the floorboards………

So the Great Barrier Reef was pronounced dead today. Do you even realize that is this our home. We were blessed with such a beautiful, loving, and magnificent home and look what we have done to it. Mother Nature doesn’t deserve this. We don’t deserve this world we were so graciously given. Are you waking up yet
K, so this is mostly bollocks.
The Great Barrier Reef is not dead. About a third of the coral in it is dead, and it’s suffering a really bad case of a disease called coral bleaching (which is what caused the photos down below)- but it’s not dead and it has a chance to recover. Hell, you can even see it in the bottom right picture- the only coral that’s actually dead in it is the big dark twiggy bit. The rest of it is still alive- it’s just under stress and so it’s bleached.
A lot of scientists are actually kind of pissed off about this message going viral, because it sends the message that there’s nothing we can do. It’s like sending out an obituary notice for your loved one that has cancer and is on life support. They’re still not dead. They can keep fighting; they can survive.
And we can still save the Reef. It’s not too late to turn things around.
does your guises dog ever meow a little and then stare at you like “you better not tell anyone or ill run away”
