I had always wondered why the US alt-rock stations starting around that time only played new "stomp-clap" pop mixed in a few 10-20 year old alt rock songs. It was pretty baffling to me because a bunch of popular "alternative" acts with darker themes and even entire genres were springing up between 2011-2017 but I literally never heard any them on the radio on "alt rock" stations.
