Someone pointed out that I forgot Peeta’s prosthetic and I was EMBARRASSED (this is what I get for finishing an illustration at 3am and scheduling the post before passing out) so I’ve redone it. Erasing all the little blonde hairs and freckles on the OG leg made me so sad and just really hit me with what a loss that injury is to him.

Do you see Peeta as emotionally closed or open? I have seen people argue one or the other. Do you think vulnerability is hard or natural for him?

I think Peeta is emotionally closed and that vulnerability is difficult for him, just not quite as difficult as it is for Katniss which makes him look like the open hearted one of the two.

He spends a full decade watching Katniss and wanting to talk to her but can't get up the guts to initiate or tell her how he feels. We see him shut her out and become reclusive and closed off several times during the books. He's the wordsmith and we know he loves her, but he never actually says so directly. He can be a flirt, but the moments when he's honest about his inner thoughts are rare and usually in one on one situations. I think the fact that he's so good at playing the game and putting on a persona for the cameras, and the times he uses his authentic feelings to inform and inspire that public persona, leaves us feeling like Peeta is talking about his feelings all the time but that's not really the case. We see his emotions most clearly through his actions not his words.

I think this makes his choice to feed his real affection for Katniss to the capital a bigger sacrifice. He didn't do that because he's just super open with this feelings and wants to yap about the girl he likes. He chose to sacrifice his precious inner thoughts to the wood chipper of the games to buy her some protection. The choice to suffer through that speaks more to his care for her than the words he chose to say which were just that he always had a crush on her and a lot of boys like her.
