PluralLog Friend Hello tumbl I don't know how to change the font size. Apologies.
I have access to the blog now, so I wanted to post. Here's some fun details about the PluralLog Friend app - coming to you soon!
Features:
Users can share with volume-level granulatiry, giving permission to specific features. This means users can do things like share analytics insights but not the member identities, share journals but not members, share members + journals + analytics but not polls, etc;
Federated servers can be run with self signed certificates, and users can approve self signed certificates. This allows users to run servers entirely locally, or within ie their own house
Sharing & System friendship always requires system approval. Even if a user has a System's invite code, that SYstem has to do a final confirmation to accept them as a friend
Users can have optional handles
Data is private to server operators
The Friend app prevents screenshots and screen recording of shared data (we're using a special promotional build)
User can sync manually, or app can automatically sync intermittently
The Friend app does not store data to disk, and does not store decrypted data in cache, meaning that they do not keep live copies insecurely, and without capturing their key exchange the System user can invalidate their sharing to prevent access/decryption
The app does have some bugs; minor in effect, but noted nonetheless. However its core functionality is present and effective. Bugs are largely related to error messaging, meaning rather than users getting a pretty message they'll often get something like "Dio Exception (54):....". I'm working through fixing issues, and planning features with the rest of the team, but once we have things to a stable point we would like to polish some of the messaging/errors/UX. We're thankful for your patience!
