A Guide to White Privilege by COURTNEYAHNDESIGN
1. White Privilege doesnât mean your life hasnât been hard. It means your skin tone isnât one of the things making it harder! Thereâs plenty of other privileges (socio-economic, male, heterosexual, cisgender, christian, able-bodied) but white privilege is perhaps the most enduring throughout history.
2. White Privilege exists as a direct result of both historic and enduring racism, biases, and practices designed to oppress people of color.
3. White Privilege means you actively benefit from the oppression of POC You are the dominant representation on all media No on questions your citizenship Products are designed for you 1st People at work look like you You donât get harassed for existing in public locations Inherited power and wealth Your actions arenât perceived as those of all your race
4. Systemic racism exists at every level of society. The wealth gap (90% White owned vs 10% POC owned) Black graduates are 2x more likely to be unemployed Black americans are 30% more likely to get pulled over Black students are 3x more likely to be suspended Black americans make up 40% of the prison population Black americans are shown 18% fewer homes Black women are 4x more likely to die from childbirth And this is only a small port of the oppression
5. What would I do with my White Privilege?
Teach other White folks the barriers to success for POC Promise to listen to and amplify the voices of POC Be more than ânot racistâ but actively anti-racist Confront racial injustices even when itâs uncomfortable.
Yes, Iâm gonna keep posting this. Iâmma post this on repeat. And if you think that âpoliticsâ have no place in a hearth witch blogâŠ
Well other than mostly telling you to go fuck yourself if you come at me with the whole âbut all lives matterâ and âmy life is hard tooâ⊠Iâd invite you to sit with the idea of what hearthcraft is. What is the point of hearth witchery? And consider that I am also an Irish polytheist, and the idea of hospitality is sacred to me.
My hearth is a safe place, and that means no bigots allowed. But more than that, it means that *I* have to be a safe place. I have to learn and grow.
So the Dems control the White House. This is GREAT. It also doesnât really change a damn thing about systemic racism. It does mean, hopefully, that progress can be made, but itâs not a light switch.
You still need to be examining your privilege and supporting BIPOC and working to address racism on personal, local and federal levels.

WWC Ask Rules
Do not askâŠ
General writing questions.
As in writing qâs that have nothing to do with BIPOC or only deal tangentially with them.
Questions that are very broad or vague.
For example âhow do I write a Black character?â or variations of this question. See the FAQ and our WWC General Topics Compilation
Questions that ask for facts you can easily Google.
Need help using Google? Check out: Writing Research and Google Search Tips
Questions that seek our permission or approval to write about a topic.
We call these rubber stamp questions. Asks designed to solicit simple approval are time consuming and difficult to answer.
Further explanation on rubber stamp asks, what they are, and how to fix them:
No Longer Accepting Rubber Stamp Questions
Questions that ask us for resources.
âDo you have resources forââ STOP! We will not do your research for you.
Please donât use WWC to point you towards references. We are not here to be your Google. Specific questions that arise within your research is one thing, asking us to spoon-feed you where to do your research is another thing entirely.

Questions using âPoCâ as a replacement for an applicable race.
Person/Woman/Man of Color is not a fancy way to say Black people; Itâs an umbrella term for a coalition including a lot of different races/ethnicities. If your question isnât specific itâs 1) difficult to answer and 2) generates a general and not as helpful response
Questions that indicate you have not browsed WWC thoroughly if at all.
If you start off by saying âsorry if this has been asked beforeâ or âthis may already be answered but-â Youâre telling us you havenât checked. These Qâs are grounds for automatic deletion.
Questions that ignore our ask submission guidelines.
- Use âaskâ for questions that are 2 parts. If a question is longer than 2 parts, use submit. - We also request that you donât send writing questions via fanmail.
Questions that have nothing to do with writing.
We are a writing advice blog. We consider questions seeking our perspective on current events or controversies to be off topic. We will only answer these sort of questions at our own leisure (or if we find them helpful for others to answer).
Banned questions (due to excessive discussion or other reasons, explained within the links)
questions about Muslim characters + magic. Here is why.
questions about the Wendigo. Here is why.
questions that ask for a rubber stamp of approval. Explanation
Additional Guidelines
Submit your question properly
Use âaskâ for questions that are 1-2 parts.Â
If a question is longer than 2 parts, use submit.Â
No fanmail writing Qâs (Fanmail for general commentary is fine)
Ask questions we havenât covered at length
We will not answer Qâs that are too similar to ones weâve already answered (Check the navigation and/or our multiple search functions very thoroughly). We will not often redirect you to the answer. This is not the same as having a follow-up question about an existing guide or discussion. Go ahead and ask. Weâd be happy to clarify!
Be clear and concise | No excessively long asks
Questions that are not concise and provide extraneous details will likely be deleted. With the amount of Qs received combined with busy schedules, thereâs no time to shift through exceedingly long questions that provide way more details than necessary to answer the question.Â
Additional issues with long asks: Unrelated details makes a question long and complicated to read and thus answer. It might also mean us misinterpreting your concern and/or answering aspects that you werenât questioning.
Keep asks focused:Â Avoid providing a laundry list of multiple characters that you want rubber-stamped for correct characterization. Ask about a specific character. Youâll get a more detailed answer on that specific character that way.
Donât expect an instant response to your question
Have patience with us!
We receive hundreds of asks. It takes time.Â
Also, itâs impossible for us to answer every question we get.
We will prioritize questions that are on fresh topics not covered extensively here before.
Please stop asking us to recommend blogs that areâŠ
âŠlike WWC except for disability, lgbtqa+ etc. We have answered this already. Check our recommendations page!Â
Slur policy
Finally, we urge you not to send in questions with racial slurs that arenât blocked out or denoted as ân wordâ âg wordâ etc. We may choose to delete uncensored slurs (and any other blatantly offensive Qâs) as to avoid triggering ourselves and/or others.
