You are the person I’ve been searching my whole life for. You make me a better person, you help me heal.
You’ve helped me do things I never thought I’d be able to do again. You give me courage <3
if you are ever out here w the take "society LOVES feminine men and masculine women what about the poor feminine women and masculine men" I need u to know you have entirely submersed yourself in niche online communities and have lost touch w the very real world we live in and you owe every masculine woman and feminine man $100
Absolutely. 100%. The only thing I will add is, though, that as much as feminine women in the real world and not in the niche online communities are treated wayyyy better than masculine women, hyperfeminine women do indeed get the short end of the stick. Where the whole bimbo stereotype originated from.
It’s like society wants women to always be 80% feminine. Not 100%, bc then they’ll look like “self absorbed pink and sparkly sluts” and never below 80%, even slightly masculine women, who would look like “tomboy slobs” or unattractive or whatever. Bc society will almost always hate women’s presentations bc in their minds, women are never enough.
This is also a conversation that must take into account race, body size, gender identity and sexuality, and ability status.
Plenty of feminine black women are denied their ability to even call themselves women let alone the chance to *be feminine*.
I'm thinking of my sister who as a teenager had so many woes about not fitting in any pretty clothing in regular department stores, long before any black owned fashion shops appeared within a reasonable driving distance in our hometown, before the age of online shopping. Being a typical 16 year old black girl who fits in approximately zero dresses and skirts and shoes and needing to go either to a tailor to have clothes customized for you, or drive two hours out of your city to the one mall that has a black-owned store, is humiliating and incredibly expensive.
But I'm also thinking about how many times I've seen people calling celebrities who genuinely are traditionally feminine and oftentimes quite pretty or beautiful "mannish" and "ugly" just because they don't fit eurocentric beauty standards.
I'm thinking about my lesbian friends who are the definition of "pretty woman" but because they are fairly blatantly femme lesbians they once again are degraded and humiliated for it.
I'm thinking of a friend of mine who, at one point, was literally 700lbs and how she (now they) struggled hard to find anything that fit her (their) feminine bubblegum pink and glitter aesthetic she (they) loved so much. They are now about 400lbs and identify differently than back then, but still love to be ultra-fem and the fact of the matter is that when you are that fat you live in a world of beige unless you get things custom tailored. They have the money to do that now, but they didn't before.
I'm thinking about my friends who are trans women, who talk about how difficult it can be if they are outside of the parameters of "expected cis woman" which even most cis women don't meet. Trans women who have dark facial hair and thus have obvious stubble even freshly shaved. Trans women with unsupportive families who punish them for any "girlish" features or interests. Even my one friend, a short and petite trans woman of color who passes perfectly until she speaks, and how I have witnessed the people around her treat her femininity.
I'm thinking of my disabled friends, in wheelchairs often, who struggle with how most clothing that exists does not take wheelchairs into account and thus once again they find themselves having to shop specialty or get things custom-tailored which is humiliating and unreasonably expensive.
I am not disagreeing with OP- I think a lot of "let women be feminine" and "let men be masculine" are people complaining about stupid shit like Peach wearing pants or punk bands wearing nail polish. But I do think that a larger conversation also needs to be had about the men and women denied the chance to be masculine and feminine, because of society's treatment of them and how they are "doing it wrong" by being who and what they are.
When I hear "let women be feminine", I'm remembering seeing my sister be a typical, feminine, teenaged black girl so upset that she couldn't fit anything at the store that she cried inconsolably for hours because all she wanted was a nice, pretty pair of shoes, and her feet were too big to fit any of the women's sizes and she HAD to shop the men's. It was just one more dagger in her chest coming from a world that called her a man just for existing as a black girl.
I have a very morally gray character who is a dragon stuck in human form, and when the people of the village she was living in found out, they all started calling here a monster.
Her response: I would kill to protect all of you and your children in a heartbeat--and have done so on numerous occasions--but there are those among you who would abandon or evil kill your children simply because their existence inconveniences you! And yet you have the gall, the nerve, the audacity to call ME the monster!? As far as I’m concerned, you humans are the real monsters.”
Poison list
While it's important to approach writing with creativity and imagination, it's crucial to prioritize responsible and ethical storytelling. That being said, if you're looking for information on poisons for the purpose of writing fiction, it's essential to handle the subject matter with care and accuracy. Here is a list of some common poisons that you can use in your stories:
Hemlock: Hemlock is a highly poisonous plant that has been used as a poison in various works of literature. It can cause paralysis and respiratory failure.
Arsenic: Arsenic is a toxic element that has been historically used as a poison. It can be lethal in high doses and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and organ failure.
Cyanide: Cyanide is a fast-acting poison that affects the body's ability to use oxygen. It can cause rapid loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest.
Nightshade: Nightshade plants, such as Belladonna or Deadly Nightshade, contain toxic compounds that can cause hallucinations, respiratory distress, blurred vision, dizziness, an increased heart rate, and even death when ingested.
Ricin: Ricin is a potent poison derived from the castor bean plant. It can cause organ failure and has been used as a plot device in various fictional works.
Strychnine: Strychnine is a highly toxic alkaloid that affects the nervous system, leading to muscle spasms, convulsions, and respiratory failure.
Snake Venom: Various snake venoms can be used in fiction as deadly poisons. Different snake species have different types of venom, each with its own effects on the body.
Digitalis: Digitalis, derived from the foxglove plant, contains cardiac glycosides. It has been historically used to treat heart conditions, but in high doses, it can be toxic. Overdosing on digitalis can cause irregular heart rhythms, nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances.
Lead: Lead poisoning, often resulting from the ingestion or inhalation of lead-based substances, has been a concern throughout history. Lead is a heavy metal that can affect the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, cognitive impairment, anemia, and developmental issues, particularly in children.
Mercury: Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that has been used in various forms throughout history. Ingesting or inhaling mercury vapors can lead to mercury poisoning, causing symptoms like neurological impairment, kidney damage, respiratory issues, and gastrointestinal problems.
Aconite: Also known as Wolfsbane or Monkshood, aconite is a highly toxic plant. Its roots and leaves contain aconitine alkaloids, which can affect the heart and nervous system. Ingesting aconite can lead to symptoms like numbness, tingling, paralysis, cardiac arrhythmias, and respiratory failure.
Thallium: Thallium is a toxic heavy metal that can cause severe poisoning. It has been used as a poison due to its tastelessness and ability to mimic other substances. Thallium poisoning can lead to symptoms like hair loss, neurological issues, gastrointestinal disturbances, and damage to the kidneys and liver.
When incorporating poisons into your writing, it is essential to research and accurately portray the effects and symptoms associated with them. Additionally, be mindful of the potential impact your writing may have on readers and the importance of providing appropriate context and warnings if necessary.

people need to stop saying "adhd is just product of capitalism". yeah, capitalism makes living with adhd more difficult and yeah, capitalism promotes ableism, but destruction of capitalism wouldn't solve all adhders problems. it's invalidating and just dumb - capitalism doesn't cause adhd and saying that it does literally not scientifically accurate. adhd is a neurodevelopmental disorder.
i have adhd and i'm autistic and non-capitalistic world would still be hard for me. capitalism didn't cause my disabilities and adhd would still be a thing in a world not under capitalism.
A personal vent - this is my experience and may not reflect other autistic experiences.
Approximately 16% of Autistics are in full-time work.
Approximately 32% are in some form of paid work.
I am in the 16%. And it fucking sucks.
"You are doing so well!" No. I'm not. I'm mentally extremely unwell and in constant burnout. But it's either this or being homeless.
"You must be high functioning then." Besides the terminology, it's kinda a no, too. I high mask. I don't function at home. I can barely take care of myself. It's all fake.
"Count your blessings!" No. This is a curse for me because I was late diagnosed and forced to live NT for 36 years of my life. I am not coping and I am not happy on an autistic level.
I don't go out, I can't watch shows or movies because I'm too exhausted, week-ends are barely enough recovery time, I'm in therapy that's holding the flood at bay just barely.
"You should just quit." I can't. We would lose everything and in the current economy my husband's income is not enough. We'd lose the house, the cars, the cats (which are like my children). And finding another job that pays me $29+ an hour for what I do isn't easy or a guarantee it won't be worse for me.
"You are so lucky to be able to work." I'm not. Please, my sweet dumplings... understand that I'm not.
Far too many people know exactly what I mean by this post.
And that's concerning.
Because burnout, meltdowns, shutdowns...they damage you. Especially this frequently for this long.
I went back to work on Monday after 3 weeks paid leave.
Yesterday (Tuesday, Australian time), I had a shutdown after work. Just 2 days back at work.
*gives everyone who is working a big hug*
Reminder: It's alright if you're a "picky" eater. It's alright if you only eat a few specific foods. It's alright if you don't try new foods. It's alright. You should never feel bad about sensory issues. I love you /p
I hate hate hate hate HATE that most of the time when I’m searching for info on autism the results always regard autistic children and are written by allistic adults for allistic parents who hate autistic children
Like I’m just going “hehe hey google do other autistic people sensory seek in carbonated drinks” and Google is like “DUMB STUPID LITTLE AUTISTIC BABIES REALLY LIKE DRINKING DUMB STUPID LITTLE AUTISTIC DRINKS LIKE SPRITE AND COKE BECAUSE THEY’RE DUMB STUPID LITTLE AUTISTIC BABIES!!!!!”
Best friend. The autistic kids you’re writing about so unkindly are going to become adults. And they’re going to be unhappy when they read that shit.
I don’t struggle with autism. I struggle with neurotypicals being assholes about me being autistic
Definitely
…aaaand! HE DID IT!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
