Salem's city council voted unanimously to pursue a data center moratorium after residents - and a guillotine - pushed back on a $5.1 billion
Innovation happens every goddamn beautiful day in this country.

it’s never a normal temperature anymore it’s always some fucking bullshit
I need you young people to know it was almost never this hot when I was a child. Millennials and Gen Xers are all nostalgic and excited about summer because it was about ten to twenty degrees cooler to experience it back then!
I cannot express to you how FAST it has gone. I grew up in a world that does not exist now. We're starting on the path to reverse it, globally. You might not know how much solar has EXPLODED in the last decade or two. It's gone from a side thing, a weirdo novelty that was just Not Viable... to whole countries investing in infrastructure. but we have to keep fighting big oil and fascism everywhere we can in order to keep on this road to a new better less scorching burning earth.
But any time you wonder wtf the weather is doing- THIS IS NOT NORMAL, NO. THIS IS NOT WHAT IT WAS EVEN TWENTY YEARS AGO.
Also, Conor McGregor blew out his knee in like nine seconds last night and Drake lost a million dollars betting on him.
So even better
Everybody say "thank you south america" for the humble potato
Actually let's get specific with it

Everybody say thank you indigenous people of present-day southern Peru and extreme northwestern Bolivia from 7-10,000 years ago for the humble potato

Car-centric infrastructure pisses me off but it also pisses off car owners and they don’t even realize it.
Do you hate traffic? Yeah. It’s because of all the cars.
Do you hate noise? Yeah. It’s because of all the cars.
Do you hate so many people under the age of 30 dying? Yeah. It’s because of all the cars.
Do you hate lung and heart diseases? Yeah. It’s because of all the cars.
Why is suburbia boring? Because of all the cars.
Tired of having to drive around your elderly, young, and disabled relatives? Blame all the cars.
Tired of air and water pollution? Yeah a lot of that comes from cars.
Tired of potholes? It’s because there’s so many cars.
More severe flooding than there used to be? Because of all the asphalt for the cars.
Is your city losing money and can’t afford to maintain suburban sewer and sidewalks? Cars.
Your town keeps knocking down all its historic buildings to build more parking lots? Yeah I think you know what to blame. It’s the cars.
Wait how do cars pollute the water
Wear and tear on the roads and car tires degrading releases chemicals and microplastics that run off into the water supply when it rains
Also coolant and oil leaks, plus the oil spills in the ocean for gasoline
Yes but it’s important to point out that even electric cars can pollute the environment

but ykw at least i'm not on mount everest. at least i'm not paying tens of thousands of dollars to slowly suffocate in a 300-person line at the gates of hell. never in my life will i have to be steered in a hypoxic stupor through the maze of poop and corpses atop mount everest. on this earth a lot of horrible things can happen to you without your permission but there are a few that you have to opt into. you can just say no thanks! and be guaranteed never to have to be on mount everest. much to be grateful for actually
still not on mount everest this morning 😌 alhamdulillah
i always smile whenever i see a man with painted nails. it means we're winning
if enough people are crossdressing, then it stops being crossdressing, and we have won
Anyone got ideas of any practical, functional uses for paper mache? Other than using them to make sculptures, decor, kids' crafts, and halloween costumes. I'm dubious that it could be turned into furniture.
So... what is your definition of practical, functional uses, and what kind of papier mache?
I've seen the kind of papier mache that's basically mashed paper mass, the kind used for details, to repair decorative elements in furniture and walls.
I don't know that I'd try to use the long strips kind that way, but I can see it being used as an under layer to patch holes in drywall or plaster, maybe?
But by its nature, papier mache isn't meant to be loadbearing, no. It's an extremely lightweight sculpting method. So what's a practical, functional use for lightweight sculpture?
That's the thing again - I'm asking because I don't know. I haven't weighed the thing, but I've got a paper stack roughly the size and weight of my head, and no clue how to put it into use. I tried cutting some into long strips to weave baskets out of it, but it doesn't seem to want to yield to that kind of use, so I guess I'll have to find a way to turn it into paper mache that I could use to build something that I would actually use. I can't make clothing or dishware out of it, so it's got to be something else. There's no space in this house for sculptures with no function beyond decor.
