Good afternoon everyone! 

We are pleased to finally be able to share with you each of the summaries for the 2021 fic collection! If you are an Artist/Beta for the event, please read the list carefully, and choose your top 5 options to work with - from here we will assign you 1-2 to work with over the next few months! 

HOW TO SEND US YOUR CHOICES: Please send an ASK to the @ballumbigbang​ inbox, stating 1. The name of YOUR blog that you are participating with (if you send from your main, when your EE blog is a side blog, we won’t know who you are!) 2. Your top five choices of fics to work with - when writing these, make sure you include the assigned letter of the alphabet, and the AU writing (in bold below) 3. Lastly, if there is any persons you do not wish to work with, or any triggers you wish to avoid, please let us know - this is completely confidential, and helps things run smoother on our end. If this does not apply to you, please tell us it is not applicable, that way we know you’ve read and understand this post. 

The reason we are doing requests via our ASKs this year is so we have a definitive timeline of who requested people when, making our first-come-first-serve basis much more fair than if it were dependent on when your mod was online.

There’s no such thing as a long engagement in soap land. They don’t have real wedding planning problems like having to save for deposits or giving notice to registrars.

The one show needs to get a proper interviewer. Like someone who knows how to interview, and does research in what questions need to be asked, and doesn't make it unbearably awkward. Because Alex w/e and whatever bloke they have on are always so shit that it's a complete waste of time. They didn't ask Max or Tony anything interesting or of note. Like questions they always get asked, followed by a question they can't answer- proposing to their girlfriends - followed by some dumb shit.

The One Show has always been crap at interviewing no matter who presents it. They will literally cut someone off talking to get them to hold up a photo of a viewer’s dog wearing a hat or a cake someone made.

just for anyone who only watches the Ballum storyline; Lola recently found out that Jay has feelings for Honey, who was married to Billy, her Grandad, who also pretty much raised Jay. Messed up, right? Keep in mind that Jay proposed to her less than a year ago. She’s feeling betrayed by people she thought were her family which plays into the storyline. (Although I’ve never seen a school that wouldn’t solve that situation with a quick phone call to the parent)

After seeing the episode my main issue with it was that Lola would rather let her poorly daughter remain at school rather than make a phone call to allow Callum to bring her home tbh.

But she was happy enough for him to look after Lexi literally in the last episode.

Lol. Ben’s face at the end... and you just know that he isn’t going to be able to work out for himself why Callum is upset. Someone will have to spell it out for him.

Any chance EE can give Bernie a girlfriend before this year's pride. She's been out for ages and still hasn't been given a love interest.

Hell, if she could have a fucking storyline at all, I'd be happy..

The problem is that soap writers still don’t really know what to do with queer characters once the ‘coming out’ story is done with.

It was really obvious in the 90s when pretty much every gay soap character would leave not long after. I feel they’ve gotten better about it when it comes to gay men (still not perfect by any means) but lesbian and trans characters still seem to suffer and more often than not they often get reduced to just being in the background and don’t get any real storylines until either the actor gets fed up and quits or the producers decide to axe them.

I love that Linda just went out and learned some sign language to communicate with Frankie and to tell her ‘welcome to the family’. Honestly that just warms my heart.

The school should ask Lexi if Callum is family or not.

It’s not about that it’s what is classed as family. Unfortunately a parents partner isn’t untill they are either married (step-parent) or sometimes engaged. Unfortunately that’s the rules. And sometimes you here of this kind of thing more when it’s same sex relationships having this problem them opposite sex relationships (although that does occur) and is a reason why women still chose to change their name upon marriage or have their child’s name as a double barrel if not married at the time of their birth! It’s unfortunately how things are in the UK!

Oh I know, I believe in the US, there is a list of names that parents put down or if someone like a neighbor or romantic partner is acceptable to pick up the child. The school would talk to the parent on the phone if someone new came along to make sure that the correct person could take their child home. At least it was when I was a kid, don’t know how things have changed now. They may have cracked down even harder and made the rules even more strict. I don’t know, I haven’t been in school in a few years.

I was thinking more along the lines of how much a force of nature that Lexi is and she would charge right in and be like this is my other dad, Callum the police officer. But we don’t hold that against him, he’s my daddy’s boyfriend.

They won’t let a child go with someone who isn’t known to the school, family or not, due to safeguarding, but I’ve had to collect my niece from school before at short notice and her mother just called the school and let them know. There was no drama I just picked her up from reception.
