gilbert baker designed his flag with the express purpose of it including every single queer person. baker was so dedicated to making sure his flag was inclusive that he added another stripe in 2017, lavender, to represent diversity. the concept that it’s for white gay men came around later and needs to be changed.

can we please go back to associating the original flag, and ideally the modern rainbow flag, with inherent inclusion of every single queer person? instead of deciding that the original wasn’t good enough? personalized flags are important for representing those who have typically been excluded from the queer community, but reclaiming the original flag as a symbol of inclusion is important too.

The Eurasian beaver had not been seen in Portugal for over 500 years, making its recent return a cause for celebration.

This is the first time a Eurasian beaver has been spotted in Portugal for over 500 years!

After an absence of more than five centuries, the Eurasian beaver is finally back in Portugal. Beavers have been extinct in the Iberian nation since the 1500s because of overhunting and habitat destruction, according to the Good News Network. However, at least one plucky critter has crossed over into Portugal, it seems. The beaver was spotted in a national park near the Douro River on the border with Spain. Pedro Prata, team leader with Rewilding Portugal, said: "We've been on the lookout for this breakthrough for a few years now, and we're thrilled to confirm its return. The beaver is a natural ally in restoring the health of our rivers and wetlands and has a fundamental role to play in our river ecosystem."

How to stay motivated to study, when you have no energy (languages):

PLANNING

Plan what part of material you want to learn each day. Buy a calendar and write it here. Trust me - it helps. Also create a habit, make learning a day-to-day activity.

TAKING BREAKS

As a person that has very high expectations when it comes to learning, I sometimes don’t allow myself to take breaks from learning. I can learn for few  hours straight. THAT IS NOT HEALTHY. It was proven. When you take breaks and meditate or stay active when you’re not learning, it makes it more efficient. Go for a walk, do yoga, drink some water, JUST SIT IN SILENCE, but please don’t study for 10 hours straight.

TAKING AESTHETIC NOTES

Mind maps, lap books, sticky notes, flashcards (my favourite method) - whatever. There is also this method when you write your favourite words, for example (swedish): jordgubbe-strawberry, and you doodle around it, you draw little strawberries etc. I just think it’s cute and aesthetic. It makes me so happy.

READING

Read newspapers. It may sound boring, but it can help you get used to the language. Find bloggers who write in your target language. There are plenty of langblrs that post learning resources.

WATCHING

At the bottom of this post I gave you an article that I found which contains links to YouTube channels in 50+ languages. In my opinion language aquisition is one of the best learning technique. 

Watch movies that are not in your target language, but characters talk in it a little bit. For example: “A Quiet Place” - English (spoken) and American Sign Language.

TALKING

Talk to yourself in your target language even if it’s just the most basic words. If you can’t find native speakers, you’re an introvert or you simply are not able to talk to people in your current emotional and psychological state, just talk to yourself. That’s enough. But if you can talk to native speakers, don’t be afraid of making mistakes. Even people who speak a language since they were born make mistakes. 

FIND A LEARNING TECHNIQUE THAT WORKS FOR YOU
