-I would say someone who doesn't stand out much, like him. Wears neutral colors, down to earth, soft, understanding to his bad habits and job, can and will be there for his lowest and best. Take care of him, especially after Watari passes away.
-also they need to love being indoors cause no way in hell is L going out.
-he has a very dry humor. Take the scene where he says "yes, that would be dark" after misa said she can't live without Light as an example. So I'd say someone who's playful and can get his weird jokes.
-and, HEAR ME OUT ON THIS, alternative people.
-to get really specific, scene people.
-now, I know L only said he's Misa's biggest fan (im not saying misa is scene btw) because he needed to get closer to her and light, BUT JUST HEAR ME OUT.
-L, as someone grew up in a dull environment and spent most of his life cooped up alone, would be attracted to the polar opposite of him.
-opposites attract trope, basically.
-of course, they'd still have to take care of him.
-he'd be interested in the unique way they dress and stand high on their opinions. He finds it hot when people are not afraid to express themselves differently than others.
-alt people are political, he's open to hearing your thoughts and discuss.
-he'll stare openly as his partner got dressed in neon colors and various patterns. Curious, no shame at all.
-he would absolutely love it if his partner had colorful hair. He'll compliment it as he's running his fingers through it. Even better if they have things like raccoon tail, angel ring, peekaboo, literally anything beyond what he sees as normal (pun intended.)

-someone who's soft spoken. Due to him having barely any friends at Wammy's, he was bullied to think the worst. So he'd want someone who's gentle and caring.
-his dirty little secret is that he's into people who resembles Mello in little ways. (meronia, okay?). Someone fiery with a sharp tongue, doesn't hesitate to make their thought known, someone blunt.
-just open to dating anyone, really. He's the least judgemental person you could ever meet. Looks don't matter to him much but an androgynous person is his heaven.
-as I said, he's not able to take care of himself properly. So you'd have to cook for him, make sure he eats, do most of the cleaning, make sure he's having actual human interactions instead of talking to his toys all day (in his head so he doesn't look crazy).
-needs someone that's really understanding and patient.
-also, would love it if you had tattoos. Would trace them softly with his finger when you two are laying together. Will ask to color them in.
-i'd says someone passionate. With a dream, something in front of them that keeps them going. Someone who can work for it and won't hesitate to sacrifice things.
-the thing is, Mello wouldn't have had any 'goal' after Kira's case, so he'd try to pick up a new big responsibility as soon as possible.
-workaholic. Even though he hates the mafia stuff, that's how he puts food on the plate. Got time to complain? Got time to work.
-looks wise, I really don't fucking know.
-but if I have to put an opinion on it, someone kinda androgynous. Like Near. Soft but also sharp features.
-no swag gap. Someone who can match his style and keep up with it. Doesn't mind dating someone with different styles. Gyaru, scene, goth, anything.
-more than happy to be your literal own stylist.
-someone smart, he's not gonna date a person that can't do basic critical thinking.
-if you work in the mafia like him, he'd hear your opinions before everyone else's.
-scared of commitment. You two would be in a situationship (he hates to call it that) for a long while. Wants you, but also scared of being overbearing that he loses you.
-bootycalls you. Asks you to come over at three am or shows up unannounced, either half drunk or sober but acts like he's not. Gone by the time you wake up and doesn't talk about it later.

-being always second in Wammy's really fucked with his mental health. Tells himself you can find someone better, with cleaner hands, and more proper any time and tries to tone it down. So he'd try to be more gentle, kinder, try to change. He really does but ends up being overwhelming and controlling nonetheless.
-if you ask for space or start pulling back, two things could happen. He'll either just let you go quietly, know it's his own fault, not be the same after it. Beg you to come back. Not quiet literally beg, but send short messages time to time.
-or, start arguing with you and yelling about how you were probably cheating on him and had someone else, his insecurities really show in that moment, and just goes kinda yandere.
-you'd probably be in an online relationship. Meet in a game and play online games together for a while before you actually meet in real life.
-he's a stinky geek. Prepare to listen to him rant for hours about game strategies or his favorite anime. He does get a little frustrated if you don't listen while he's talking.
-he's a simple guy. If you're cute, you're cute. If you're hot, you're hot.
-like Near, looks won't matter to him much. As long as you love him for who he is.
-though, he does say misa is cute multiple times in the manga, so I'm thinking he maybe likes really hyper feminine people. Blonde hair and blue eyes (mellodramattic if you squint), cute little thing wrapped in soft pink and sweet perfume.
