Lance bursts out laughing. All 32 teeth showing as he looks down at the ground, shaking his head from how hard he was laughing. He looks up at you to speak but he just ends up laughing again.

"Baby." He chuckles again as he keeps folding. "We don't have a mortgage. We own this property. And the land. I paid for our house in cash the moment we saw it."

Oh... You completely forgot that you both probably don't have a mortgage. "Well... I can't pay for any of the bills."

He laughs out loud again, this time directly in your face. He grabs some hangers and puts up your blouses. As he puts them away on the rack, he goes to you. He gently grabs your head and kisses your forehead, "I know that already, but thanks."

"$5,000?!" He shouts with offense. He scoffs and pushes his hair back, baffled at how you view money. "You think this nice ass house is only $5,000 pounds? Pfft." And he puts his headset back on. "Get out of my face. I'm gonna play games."

And then he turns away from you. His back facing you. He literally was stone walling you until he was ready to talk. You hear a loud sigh escape his lips, he knew it was going to be a long day with you.

He's so lost and confused. He had to put down the groceries and look at you. "Have you been paying for a "mortgage"?" He asks, terrified that you've been getting scammed.

"No no" you say to rest his worries, "I just wanted to let you know I can't pay anything."

Ollie doesn't know this is a joke still and thinks you're just being serious. "So... I-" He just stutters, unsure of what to say. "I'll pay for everything. Don't worry." He says now just smiling at his solution.

You're both toxic, yet it doesn't stop you. You know that Rebecca hates this. Being a second option in her own relationship. But you can't help but wonder: if she hates it so much, why doesn't she leave?

And Carlos agrees every time - because of course you've discussed this. You two are just "besties"! Nothing more and nothing less.

Yet you catch yourself wanting more, you always do. All the signs point to him wanting you too, so why not?

Once again, Carlos is staying at your house while Rebecca is on a work trip. You're wearing his old t-shirt and some shorts. Both of you are morphed into the couch as you watched some bullshit movie that neither of you really cared for. You were talking the entire time, letting Carlos complain about Rebecca while you nod and give your 2 cents.

And something in your gut just told you to do it. To do it, now.

"I just don't get why she's so jealous when I let her go out all the time! She would never let me go on a trip with my ex for a month! Not even a week I bet!" You nod along, "I know your worth too." Which makes him smile at your words, he was so quick to grin at anything you said.

"I'd love that" You say scooting a bit closer to him, which doesn't scare him at all. If anything, he's wondering why you were so far in the first place.

"I know but she'd kill me." He sighs as he lets his hand rests on your knee. His physical touch was just further confirmation for your next move.

"So just..." You hesitate slightly as you grab his hand, pulling him up your thigh, to the hem of your shorts. "Let her go?" You look at him, hoping he'd take the bait-

"What!?" He says instantly, disgusted. He rips his hand away from your thigh and scoots back on the couch. "What the hell are you doing?!"

After the years of friendship, late nights, and sharing the deepest secrets?

And saying he'd never fuck you? Even worse is that he knows that your physical appearance is one of your biggest insecurities. He's comforted you over and over again, saying how lucky any man would be to date you. How he loves how your body looks in athletic wear or tight dresses he bought you. Was he just lying? Has he always found you ugly?

And yet you can't even ask him. He already got off the couch and left, slamming the door on the way out as he jumps into his car. You're left on the couch, frozen in place. The reality sinks into you...

You can tell he's fallen out of love. You felt it since last year. His kisses no longer lingered, his hands didn't fully engulf yours, his eyes crinkles were much lighter than how they used to be. For ages, you tried your best to get him back.

Planning surprise dates, like surprising him with front row tennis tickets. Or getting into his niche hobbies, like his watch collection and old French movies. Or even trying to get closer to his family, you're basically his mom's best friend now and Arthur sees you as an older sister.

Yet nothing worked. You've tried everything. You've read every book, asked Reddit over a dozen times, and changed every part of you. But it never worked. His spark was gone, the flame was gone and watered. All that remained was the smoke.

So now you feel the sadness, the hollowness of this empty relationship. It's like watching someone's heart monitor get slower and slower, but it never gives up. You've been waiting for ages for a break up. For him to ask to "talk" and end this draining relationship. But it's never come.

You get off of the couch, already feeling the tears brim your eyes as you think of how empty this past year has been. Walking into your shared bedroom, you see how different your two sides are.

Your bed-side table has the necklace he gave you. You never took it off until recently. The wall has photos, cards, stamps, and postcards of places you two have been to together. Even the rug on the floor was bought at a market you two went to.

His side used to be so filled. It used to have a photo of you two at a Drivers award, when he won so many awards while you looked stunning on his side. He said it was his happiest day ever. There used to be the love letter you wrote him asking him to be your boyfriend up on the wall. There used to be a photo of you holding Leo with his brother and mom, framed with a cheesy golden frame that said "My Heart".

Now his side is slightly different. He still has the photos framed and love letter, but now his side includes a photo of him and Carlos, his trophy from Monaco, a paw print of Leo, and a small little box.

Huh? A little box? That's never been there.

You walk to his side, now feeling as if you shouldn't be snooping. Which is odd, because you've both always had this motto of, "what's mine is yours". Yet now it feels like you're going through your roommates stuff, wrong and pushing boundries.

As you open the small box, you see your dream ring. A beautiful diamond, your exact ring size, with a sweet message engraved on the inside. It was for you, no doubt about it. But why?

But you respect his wishes, you know what he wants and there's no reasons for you to stop him. You guys aren't official, yet you truly believe he's beginning to change for you.

He comes to your house at 7pm, watching whatever cheesy movie you want. He'll cook dinner alongside you, throwing flour on your apron playfully. The way he smiles at you and giggles at your jokes, even when they aren't funny, makes you see how soft he truly is.

His playboy attitude, his "I don't give a fuck" attitude, it all comes crumbling down when he's with you. Being vulnerable is something he's never been able to do and yet with you, he's telling you everything. About his family, his insecurities, and what his plan for the next race are.

Partying slowly faded out of his hobbies, not dying completely, but becoming his second option. And you were so happy to have someone fill up your apartment with.

But for once, Lando wants to try something new. He decides to invite you out to the club. He's always at your place, living your lifestyle, so he wants you to try his.

Now you're at a loud club that has so many flashing lights that it hurts your eyes. You're not sure what to do. Dancing feels uncomfortable in your heels and also to your nose, everyone is sweating balls. Getting drunk isn't an option since you're Lando's ride home. You can't even chill at the bar tables or booths, because people are pulling out all types of drugs you've never seen before.

So you're just standing, looking around aimlessly. Lando left you a long time ago to go do shots with some of his friends. Why not hide in the bathroom? That's what you're used to.

Your heels click as you walk towards the bathroom. Trying your best to not bump into anyone or trip on the cracks in the floor. As you stumble to the bathroom finally, you push open the door.

And there he is. You found Lando. But at what cost?

His hands were already up some random girls dress. Her hands were tangled in his hair. Their lips were stuck on each other. You're stuck there, like a deer in headlights.

He takes a breath and then looks at you. His eyes don't widen, he doesn't show any body language to describe shock. He seems completely relaxed, like it's a normal day.

"Who's this?" You ask. And Lando rolls his eyes, simply resting his head on the random girl's shoulder before raising his head to look at you once more.

"Don't tell me you're attached already?" He asks.

"Is this your girlfriend?" The random girl asks disgusted, hating the idea of being a home-wrecker. But Lando instantly shakes his head and laughs, almost a scoff.

"No. Just friends with benefits." He says looking in the girls eyes, half lidded and slurring his words. He looks at her the same way he does with you. "Ya know how they are." A laugh escapes his lips and hers too.

So this is how you find out you're just some "crazy, overly attached, friends with benefits." You didn't change shit about him, just his routine for a moment.

Oscar Piastri | 81 He was never really there

Oscar has always captured your eye. It's hard to ignore him when he's the only person trying to not get attention. Especially harder to ignore him when he's outrageously handsome. So you've done everything to get his attention.

You always spoke to him at parties. Always stalking his social medias to desperately learn more about him. And always asking your friends for crumbs about him. He was completely stuck in your mind without your permission.

That didn't matter though. Because your efforts were slowly beginning to pay off. He began to answer your questions with more than one sentence. He followed you back on Instagram. He even started to view your stories!!! He even liked one of your posts!

Sure it was just a photo of the racetrack. But that didn't matter. He liked the story, your photography, your skills. His little interactions with you just pushed you further to know him.

At every gathering, you would always chat with him. Asking him questions about himself like it was an interview. About his mom, siblings, elementary life, and more. Every detail he said, you remembered to a tee. And he began to ask you questions back, like your favorite foods, your highschool life, and more.

It was like the ultimate slow-burn and everyone was supportive. Even his mother began to take notice of how he was texting you back, mentioning you casually in conversation. But he refuses to say much more than state the obvious, you're just friends.

You're both at a party again, drinks in hand as you chat the whole night. Oscar listens and nods, you rant about your shitty co-workers who are slacking off. He takes note of how your words are slurred, your movements sloppy. It's clear that you had quite a bit to drink.

But he doesn't mind, if anything it's easier to have you fill the conversation than bug him for answers. So he fills your cup yet again with more shots.

And the alcohol starts to give you blind confidence. The confidence to admit your feelings, maybe earn a kiss from your honesty.

"Ya know Osc," You say leaning your head against the wall. "If we were characters in a show, we would sooo be shipped together."

He nods as he sips on his drink lightly. "I could see that."

He could see it? Does he want that? "I'm not against it either." You say looking up at him with a smile.

Suddenly Oscar's eyes widen slightly and his brows raise. "Pardon?" He asks, wanting to know if you were just joking in your drunk haze.

"I said I'm not against it either-"

"Yeah. You said "either". I never said I wanted that, to be very clear." He says. Setting a boundary as he looks off into the distance of the house party. "(Y/N), we're friends. That's all."

And now your smile has dropped, vanished to the depths of hell. You look up at him to try and read his expression, something you've never been good at. And for the first time ever - you think you can read it.

Disgust. An eye-roll filled with exhaustion. A tighter grip on his cup as his feet face completely opposite of you. A clear sign of his true feelings, he wants to leave.

And you let him. You dismiss yourself to the bathroom and instantly feel your face turn red. From embarrassment, the tears rising to your eyes, and the urge to vomit all of those stupid shots out.

Isack Hadjar | 06 We're just exes, swear!

You and Isack broke up about four months ago, and yet it seems like everything is back to how it "should" be. Of course the first two months were rough, filled with crying and isolation. But after two months, he reached out to apologize and offer to be friends. How could you say no?

So now you're back in his house, wearing the sweater you gave back to him in that "break up box". It was your favorite one. It was so painful to package it up and send it back to him. So you're glad it's yours once again.

He's on the couch with you, his arm draped over your shoulder while sharing a blanket together. There's a stupid movie playing in the background of a rom-com. The two characters are in love but just broke up, and it shows how miserable their lives are without each other. You already know they end up together in the end, that's how all the stories go.

But you can't help but see the parallels with the love interests and your relationship. How the girl is left in the room, sobbing into her pillow for days on end. How the guy is the one to reach out first and mend their relationship. The only main difference is that the two are already on track to get back together.

The though of you and Isack having a second chance has been all you wanted. Besides, you're sure he wants it too. Why else would he want to be friends again? You know damn well that no "friends" sleep in the same bed, share the same food, or even have each other's old nudes in their phone.

"When do they get together?" Isack asks as he groans at the slow burn, hating how long it takes. "We already know the ending, why are we still watching?"

"Because!" You laugh at his annoyance, "We never know for sure how it goes."

"Yeah, sureee." He rolls his eyes in his usual sassy manner as he shifts under the blanket to get slightly closer to you. Now your thighs are touching, nothing out of the ordinary for you too.

"Do you not like the movie?" You ask.

"Huh?" Isack looks at you with shock. How dare you question his love for romance movies? "Of course not. I love it. I'm just joking." He says, so quick to reassure you. "I just... I dunno about second chances."

And it makes you want to frown, but you hide it for now. "Oh?" You ask, "Well, why not?"

"Because it's stupid." He chuckles to himself. "Like for example, I would never EVER get back with you." He looks off into the movie, not seeing how your brows slightly furrow in disappointment.

He then turns to look at you. "I mean no offense but, we both know it would never work again." He chuckles softly like his words mean nothing, hurting you even deeper.

"Ah," You say letting out a soft chuckle "I know right" Trying your best to play along.

He then looks at you. Noticing how your tone shifted, how your thighs stopped touching. His eyes stare into yours, his brows furrowing too.

"You... You do know that right?"

And his question instantly makes your heart drop and shatter. As you can't hide it any longer because the tears start to slip out. Your body works before your lips do, your heart shakes "no" to signal that - no, you don't understand how he can believe you couldn't work again, how these months of acting like how you used to mean nothing, how he's able to read you like a fucking book and have no strings attached anymore.

"(Y/N)..." He says as you wipe your own tears. "I-I'm sorry." He says softly. But his next words are firm, "But truthfully, we broke up for a reason. I love you, but as a friend. I just can't see us together again-"

"I get it." You cut him off. Not wanting to hear his in-depth explanation of why you'd be a terrible partner. "Just, go. Leave me be."

And he did just that. He left out the door and let you have the space you needed.

Liam Lawson | 30 You're just a place-holder

So now you're sat in silence. It had been your plan all month to show him these Disneyland tickets since you got him fast pass, a super expensive Disney hotel, plus a reserved spot to every show in the park. It took ages to plan and so many phone calls that your eyes started ringing.

But he just replied with, "I can't. It's a friend's birthday." How could be be busy already? Summer break just started and these tickets were for a month into the future. But it's fine! You did your best to be the chill partner - not "girlfriend" because Liam made it very clear you two were not an item, only casually dating.

"Oh!" You say smiling through your sadness "Well, what if you take the tickets and spend their birthday at Disney? I'd hate for these tickets to go to waste."

Liam looks up from his phone to see your eyes, for the first time during this date. He raises his eyebrows and nods slowly, "That's... really nice of you. Yeah, I'd love that."

He smiles at you. Oh my god. It worked. Finally. Something to prove that he likes you. Something more than the empty texts and dinner dates.

A month passes and you're alone in your apartment. You scroll on your phone to get your daily doomscrolling in when you see a post. A smile creeps up onto your face. You feel like a secret admirer more than his actual situationship-partner.

On Liam's story it's a photo of Disneyland. He was smiling wide with a churro in hand with a stupid Disney hat. He was having a blast and it was because of you! That definitely earns you something right? Maybe he'll take you on another date? Admit that it's been you all along and he sees how kind you are!

But you look closer at the photo... And underneath his Radiator Springs jacket is a little white strap, a purse. You recognize that purse from anywhere, the white bag, black outlines, gold details - That's Hannah's purse.

That when it clicks to you. Hannah's birthday was in two weeks, making this seem like an early birthday trip. That investigator in you overtakes your brain as you quickly go through Hannah's story. You see a photo of Disneyland. Then you see a photo of Radiator Springs, the exact jacket that Liam just bought. And then, to end off the night, you see her in a robe. In a room that you know too well - Because you bought it.

Yup... He used the ticket, the hotel, the experiences, everything that you spent hours on working towards - on Hannah. How foolish of you to think that the was ever over her? How foolish to think that he could possible move on to someone as low as you.
