my hot take is that scott clocking shane and ilya is not actually a foregone conclusion. like part of this is me extrapolating from the book where scott seemingly has fucking horse blinders on when it comes to other queer hockey players but even francois himself said he couldn't actually here ilya whisper his room number to shane. so i think this is scene is less like scott bringing a gun to a knife fight and more like throwing an apple pie at someone who's deathly allergic to apples

One time I went to the ER and various nurses stopped by and took info from me and one of them dropped off a cup, pointed to the bathroom and told me to pee in it. I did and he wasn't there when I got back so I left it sitting there and when the doctor came in he pointed at the cup and asked me why I did that?? I said a nurse told me to and he was like I don't know who told you that or why you did that. We don't need a urine sample. And just acted like I had found this cup by myself and peed in it for no reason

I usually try to be tolerant of anachronisms in books, particularly ye olde medieval generic swords and sorcery type books, but I think I broke the sound barrier with how quickly I just shot out of my immersion in this book when ye olde ancient archivist in the ye olde fantasy-england castle's library tells the protag where to find a certain book by giving him its dewey decimal number.

Today in an arthurian retelling set in pre-saxon britain I encountered a character who said he was going to quit drinking "cold turkey," which I think puts him roughly a thousand years prior to European awareness of the existence of turkeys, and the dissonance had barely registered in my mind before I remembered the medieval lending library run on the dewey decimal system and decided a chronologically misplaced poultry idiom wasn't worth noticing in comparison.
