Update

Hey Tumblr,

It’s been a while. Time for a life update:

-Global Pandemic: That’s been fun. At least I can work remotely, and probably will be doing that for the forseeable future

-New Apartment: Well it’s actually been over a year in the new apartment. I love it, it’s nice living by myself and having a place to relax and unwind and call my own. I renewed the lease so I’m here at least another year

-New Man: So by the end of this month I’ll be celebrating 6 wonderful months with my new boyfriend. I can’t explain it, but this relationship just feels so different. It feels right. We obviously have our differences (he’s almost 7 years younger than me) but nothing has beena. major red flag or issue. Our communication is great, and he makes me want to be a better person for him. I don’t know, maybe he’s the one. I mean, I’m even admitting I’m wrong a lot so that in and of itself is a sign

-Parents: So I think my parents are slowly getting used to the idea of me being gay. I’ve even finally told them I’m in a relationship. The more I talk about it, the more time they have to adjust and hopefully one day be okay with it. It’s going to be a long journey for sure but baby steps are being made

So even though the world is in chaos right now, I have to say I’m pretty happy with how everything is going. My friendships are still going strong, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in a relationship, things are getting better with my parents. Who knows, maybe 2020 is exactly what we all needed to start changing for the better. But this pandemic can be over now thanks.

It’s funny how quickly life can change. I just looked at my last post, which was only a few months ago. I was so unhappy. But thank god things have turned around. I have my masters degree in applied statistics and walked in May with one of what I can now call one of my best friends. I got a new job working for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as a research statistician, a position that pays so much more and is ACTUALLY using my education in the right way. My team is awesome and NOT homophobic like some people at my last job. I just got approval on a new apartment, a one bedroom that is absolutely gorgeous. I move in 8/1 and even though it’s triple what I’m paying now in rent I can actually afford it. I was dating this guy for a bit and he’s so sweet but we both felt something was off so we ended it, but I’m not even that upset about it. And I stopped comparing myself to my friend. It was hard at the time cause things were working out for him but now that I’m on my own path to success and happiness I can be truly happy for him without that pang of jealousy that used to plague me. I’m at the point in my life where I’m just happy. To correct myself in my last post....

I am worthy. I am loved. I am happy. And I deserve everything that’s going well in my life. And to anyone reading this, so do you.

Well, here I am. A masters degree, and no clue where I can go with it. I worked my ass off the last two and a half years, struggling and fighting my way to the goal of graduating and doing better with my life and my career, yet I find myself lost and wandering. My friend got his first offer, and I say first cause I know he’ll get more. He deserves it. But do I? Part of me doesn’t believe I do. Part of me feels like I’m not worthy and never will be. I don’t know what I’m doing. I need help, guidance, anything. Am I doomed to wallow in my current position, stagnant, miserable, lonely. My birthday is a week away, yet these are the thoughts that plague my mind. And maybe my birthday is making it worse. I’m turning 26 and I’m still stuck in this shithole. Will I ever be free. Do I even deserve to be?

I love adoption stories. My mom adopted 3 kids and she never let us or anybody else make a difference out of the 6 of us. My biological brother had the same name as my adopted brother and people could not understand why my mom would name 2 sons in succession, Johnny. But we wouldn’t explain it. Adopt kids. Make it normal. Not the the thing u do simply when u cant.

please normalize the fuck out of adoption, i’ve given speeches and lectures and written papers about all the misconceptions and fears and rumors that plague the issues of adoption and make this perfectly normal, healthy, happy thing a rare occurrence in our society and that is sad and wrong

adoption is not “giving up” on a child, adoption is not a last resort, adoption is not just for certain types of families

Also please normalize adopting teenagers. I’m not saying you shouldn’t adopt young children and babies, but there are so many teens out there that just don’t get adopted because of their age. So please normalize adopting teens!

I hate adding on to long posts, but as someone who spent time in foster care growing up I have to chime in. Foster parents are amazing, and so are adoptive parents. My foster parents, brothers and sisters made a huge impact on who I am. Please adopt. Adopted kids are not worth less than blood relations. Stop that line of thought.
