“Hm?” Riku looks over at his friend, at Sora, who’s got his hands under his head as they stare at the stars. The stars, both so close and so far, holding friends they know and ones they’ve yet to meet.
“Do you think other versions of us are out there?”
Riku blinks. “I…Yes? I don’t see why it’s impossible I guess, even if I kinda hope not.”
“Well for starters,” the ant said, scurrying back to his nest in the acacia tree’s thorns, “we’ve both dealt with enough that nobody else should have to.”
The tree gives a hum in reply. “Yeah, I guess. I dunno.”
“I think I like that idea," said the remora as he clung to the shark.
“Yeah! Makes me feel like…”
“Exactly! You know me so well,” he laughs. The shark laughs with him.
The bee curls up for a nap in the petals of his favorite flower.
“I’m so glad to have you, y’know.”
“Huh?” The bee startles, sitting up. “Where’s that coming from?”
The thread shrugs. “I dunno. But, I need you. I’ve always needed you.”
“You… Need, me? No, I’m the one that needs you,” the scissors shakes his head as he speaks.
“Okay, then we both need each other!” The thread grins that blinding grin of his. “I never would’ve made it, after the Islands fell, if I hadn’t been looking for you.”
“Oh, and here I thought you’d been looking for Kairi.” The crocodile’s tone is amused, as he looks at the Egyptian plover. The plover huffs, looking away, ignoring how his cheeks are now red.
“I was looking for both of you, dummy! Might I remind you, I refused to go back to the Islands without you??”
The crocodile laughs, a sound that the plover finds sweet. No, not sweet –
Sora finds Riku’s laugh downright enchanting. It may be his favorite sound, as the other rests his head on Sora’s lap again.
“Well. I’m glad you never stopped looking, Sora. Thank you.”
Sora smiles, looking up to the night sky again.
