Ryland Grace will have the biggest funeral of any human ever
He already was the reason for the 2nd largest Eridian Thrum
When he passes, two entire planets will celebrate his life. (Head cannon) Eridians view funerals a bit more light heartedly than humans. While the passing of a loved one still hurts, it also concludes an experience so sacred within the universe. They throw a rager in Graces honor. Rocky commissions a memorial & for WEEKS it’s surrounded with food, dancing, tributes & speeches reminiscing everyone’s experiences with one of the saviors of Earth & Erid, but most importantly their memories with their Friend Grace
Earth will get the memo in an Eridian probe years later. Someone, probably a younger friend of Stratt/a descendant of PHM will give the news. There won’t be quite the collective celebration, but everyone, everywhere, will pay tribute to him somehow. Some families include him in their ofrenda, others whisper to his spirit in the wind, some name their pets for him
Statues are built, of course. On both planets. The two largest are one right outside of Grover Cleveland Middle School & the other is in Grace’s biodome on Erid. He’s wearing the fox sweater in both
Both planets name stars after him. Both planets mourn him. But most importantly, both planets Love him. The Universe cried “Hail Mary!” & it received Grace
The deep grief of being a student of Ryland Grace and learning that he has gone on the mission. You are excited because he said the best minds were on it and, well, he's the smartest guy you know! And then you hear that he's not coming back in time for the school year. Or the next. Or the next. Or, well, at all.
Everyone finds out differently. Some are religiously reading everything about the mission and go still in the darkness of their beds, phone glowing in front of their face. Some of them get sat down gently by their parents, maybe even with a counselor or therapist, to explain what's happening. Still more feel like a bolt of lightning has hit them when their friends whisper the news in class.
Undeniably -- and many of them try -- the fact that haunts them is that he went up for them. For their future. For everybody's future, some manage to rationalize, but those who think too hard cannot ignore it. Not for any faceless group of children -- their names and faces and laughs and questions must have been on his mind when he said yes.
It becomes a solid weight between them all. Ex students of his feel it too. If you know someone used to know and love Dr. Ryland Grace, you drop everything to help them when they fall, even if it's just a silent hand. The older students in particular latch onto the class he disappeared on, becoming fiercely protective. New kinship is formed. When they're old enough (even 16, if their parents relent), many of them get tattoos to remember him, even as they're covered up by the increasing layers they need to go outside. A beanie ball of the Earth. Laika the dog. His glasses. The date he left. Sometimes, just a red Petrova Line.
The first year that ex students of his graduate high school, he's mentioned in the Valedictorian's speech. She wasn't even a student of his, but she's grateful that he saved her best friend's life with his care and compassion. She says she hopes that his dreams are sweet. Ryland Grace hasn't even woken up yet.
When his class graduates, there's a seat saved for him in the teacher's row. The principal, throat thick, says that Dr. Grace would be proud of all of them. People leave flowers on the seat and his students get a special tassel.
Babies start being named after him, this time by people who actually knew him. Grief doesn't fade, but the space it occupies gets smaller, turns into an extra jolt of pain when they look up at the darkening sun and know that someone very smart is up there, trying to fix it.
On his "wake-up" day, a bunch of them get together again. They forget old grievances and brush past the awkwardness that time has grown. They show how their tattoos look now. They tell stories and try to guess what alarm clock music he would pick. They try to think of how he'd react to their lives. Many of them are teachers now. One of them has a framed selfie of them on their desk. They laugh about how embarassed he'd pretend to be while being deeply touched.
Eventually, eventually, they see his face again. It's so odd -- they have grown and loved and lost and yet he looks exactly the same. Wears the same shirts. When the government brings those who want to come to a naval base to show them exclusive footage, he teaches the same way, too. They all get a hard and digital copy of the special message he left for them. It confirms what they've known all these years -- that he is happy to serve for the future that they've been having, that their kids and grandkids will have, that he hopes has been treating them well. Listening to all of his adventures, all that he has gained and done for them, it doesn't feel like blame anymore.

Okay inflation is crazy.
We bumping up the price to $15,000 for 2026.
i think windows users get a very skewed idea of the quote unquote "difficulty" of using linux based on the fact that many linux users are people who like doing stuff with their computer. there are plenty of solutions out there for people who just want to install an OS and get on with their day and just browse the web or whatever. you can tinker if you like and there are equally as many solutions for people who like to control every part of their OS but that's a hobby, not a requirement for using linux lol
pspspspspspsps linux users please tell me your favorite low-effort linux distros appropriate for a windows user

Folks. I have been seeing people say stuff like "just cook it to 165⁰, it will be fine"
NO. Do not tell people this, do not do it yourself. Most people are not trained in food safety and do not know how to properly reheat food. Listeria is not something to fuck around with. It is highly virulent, and it causes meningitis/encephalitis. I AM a highly trained food safety professional, and if I had any of these products in my house I would throw it away, and anything else it may have come in contact with, and sanitize my fridge with bleach on top of it. Do. Not. Risk it.
Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum is not possible to make safe to eat, point blank PERIOD. The bacteria themselves can be destroyed, but NOT THE TOXIN THEY PRODUCE. WHICH IS WHAT ACTUALLY CAN KILL YOU.
Get your money back if you need to, but please for love of all you hold dear, don't eat it or feed it to someone else. Again, we're not talking about a few days of an upset stomach. We're talking spinal taps and needing to be on a ventilator because all your muscles are paralyzed and you can't even *breathe* on your own.
Also, I would be very cautious about eating any ready to eat, prepared food at all right now. Which sucks because a lot of us are busy and rely on convenience foods; I do too. Listeria and botulinum can survive in low oxygen, cold (below 41⁰) environments, which is enough to prevent other types of bacteria growth, but not those freaks. If it's something that you can reheat, make sure it gets to at least 165⁰ and holds that temp for at least 17 seconds, and take temps in several areas. If it's cooked in the microwave, stir it halfway through cooking, again after cooking, WAIT TWO MINUTES AND *THEN* TAKE THE TEMPERATURE. Microwaves do not heat food evenly. Stirring it and letting the temperature even out is a crucial step in making sure it's as safe as possible.
But again, if you know for absolute sure any food in your house is part of a recall, don't eat it or serve it. Get your money back or just throw it away.

I've recently been made aware that if you are thinking of switching to Linux or want to switch but don't know how there's a great website made just to help people migrating from Windows to Linux.
The website has a long list of supporters, so if you really know nothing and / or are afraid of trying it and messing something up you will be able to get professional help from this website.
Extended support for Windows 10 ends in 2026. Don’t buy a new PC — revive yours with Linux. It's fast, secure, and help is available to get
There's even a list of places where you can go physically to get help. All over the world, not just in the USA by the way.
Say goodbye to Microsoft treating you like you don't own your PC. Say goodbye to intrusive features you didn't ask for. Say goodbye to ads on the OS you paid for.
Save your PCs from joining the massive amount of e-waste caused by Microsoft's unnecessary requirements.
Want to install the digital beast yourself but are unsure which flavour to choose? Let me introduce you to Linux Mint, the community-driven distro everyone and their grandma recommends. (And for a good reason!)
Why? Keep reading! Or, uh, don't? No pressure or anything.
The only worthwhile thing in my notebook rn. I'm stuck and drowning and dying while I keep smiling bc you cant let them know you're not well.
Still funny tho.
I have to confess "your web browser's assistive AI can be instructed to steal your online banking password via prompt injection because it operates with full privileges and treats all text it ingests as equally authoritative sources of user instructions, including the text of web pages it's summarising" is more surprising to me than it should have been. There really is no one involved at any point in the development of these tools who actually understands what they're doing, huh?
Prompt injection attacks could be coming to an AI browser near you. Read on to understand what these attacks do and how to stay safe.
i’m going to hold your hands when i say this and i am only going to be kind about it once: ai does not belong in fandom spaces, ever. not in writing, not in art, not in video, not at all. it does not matter how bad you want to see your favourite characters kiss, or how much you need a bit of help finishing a chapter, or whatever.
make friends with artists. commission somebody. learn to draw yourself. ask for a beta read. try a writing partnership. fandom spaces are communities, so engage with them! it is about the journey and the fact that we all love something enough to create and build together about that thing.
spending 30 seconds to kill a tree and get an AI to push out some soulless empty piece of “content” is antithetical to the entire point of being engaged with fandom, and if you’ve taken to doing this you should really reconsider if you belong in these spaces with the rest of us.
I found out Boris Karloff was a mixed race Indian man and now Frankenstein 1931 has taken on a different meaning for me. The othering and the vilification in British society, and how race plays into them.
Are you ugly? Are you a monster? Or are you just a Brown man living in a white supremacist society? Can people be born monsters or do people have monstrosity forced upon them?
And Boris Karloff was also disabled. He had bow legs, spoke with a lisp, and stammered.
"I asked ChatGPT—"
Well I asked GDT (Guillermo del Toro) and he said some of the most casually unhinged shit I've ever heard. it was beautiful and it fixed me.
