can't decide if this holiday season is a good one or a terrible one. spending today hiking with the dogs and eating chinese food with my ex. tomorrow my dog ava will take her last breaths, she is 14 years old and can't even contain her bowels or walk the stairs anymore. i wish i could say goodbye to her. i'll probably spend new years sleeping into the new year. i'd like to do something but all of my friends are either in Tennessee or going to a party i'm sick of attending. womp womp.

Animals (even free range, organic, Kosher, Halal, etc) are not cleaned prior to being slaughtered and butchered. Many have infected wounds caused by captivity (pecking each other, “bed sores” from caged confinement, biting each other from stress, etc). Kosher and Halal slaughters are some of the filthiest, horrific videos I have seen.

That means your food carcass is rolling around in a hotbed of feces, infected pus and urine while being processed for your dinner table.

Due to the high use of antibiotics (80% of antibiotics are fed to animals that will be used for food), many of these bacteria are resistant to antibiotics. That means if you get sick because of eating it, there are no medicines that will work to make you better. These resistant bacteria also find their way into the water supply and ground soil in the area. How do you think E.coli gets onto spinach? Infected manure used as fertilizer from a factory farm.

Slaughterhouse workers suffer PTSD. They are more likely to be violent towards their spouse and children due to the desensitization to extreme violence and brutality.

I’m not even going to discuss how terrible it is to celebrate the genocide if the Native American populations. Literally, it’s like holding a birthday party for the Holocaust.

But, yeah, happy thanksgiving.

Please ask yourself if your fish consumption is worth the total extinction of all marine life. Please stop eating fish and alert everyone you know what will happen if we don’t.

Fun fact: If my younger sister was in a car accident and desperately needed a blood transfusion to live, and I was the only person on Earth who could donate blood to save her, and even though donating blood is a relatively easy, safe, and quick procedure no one can force me to give blood. Yes, even to save the life of a fully grown person, it would be ILLEGAL to FORCE me to donate blood if I didn’t want to.

See, we have this concept called “bodily autonomy.” It’s this….cultural notion that a person’s control over their own body is above all important and must not be infringed upon.

Like, we can’t even take LIFE SAVING organs from CORPSES unless the person whose corpse it is gave consent before their death. Even corpses get bodily autonomy.

To tell people that they MUST sacrifice their bodily autonomy for 9 months against their will in an incredibly expensive, invasive, difficult process to save what YOU view as another human life (a debatable claim in the early stages of pregnancy when the VAST majority of abortions are performed) is desperately unethical. You can’t even ask people to sacrifice bodily autonomy to give up organs they aren’t using anymore after they have died.

You’re asking people who can become pregnant to accept less bodily autonomy than we grant to dead bodies.

And here’s another point: When you say that “rape is the exception” you betray something FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN about your own argument.

Because a fetus produced from sexual assault is biologically NO DIFFERENT than a fetus produced from consensual sex. No difference at all.

If one is alive, so is the other. If one is a person, so is the other. If one has a soul, then so does the other. If one is a little blessing that happened for a reason and must be protected, then so is the other.

When you say that “Rape is the exception” what you betray is this: It isn’t about a life. This isn’t about the little soul sitting inside some person’s womb, because if it was you wouldn’t care about HOW it got there, only that it is a little life that needs protecting.

When you say “rape is the exception” what you say is this: You are treating pregnancy as a punishment. You are PUNISHING people who have had CONSENSUAL SEX but don’t want to go through a pregnancy. People who DARED to have consensual sex without the goal of procreation in mind, and this is their “consequence.”

And that is gross.

Also, let’s talk consent 101: consenting to one thing does not mean I am automatically consenting to something else.

If I consent to kiss someone, I am not automatically consenting to having sex with them. Hell, if I consented to have sex with someone one way, it doesn’t mean I am automatically consenting to doing it in a different. If I consent to having intercourse, I am not by default consenting to getting pregnant and giving birth.

There are people who have intercourse and follow all the rules. They might use a condom and be on the pill and STILL get pregnant. It happens. Neither have a 100% success rate.

Just because I have sex and my contraception doesn’t work does not mean I should be forced to have a baby.

Children are not punishments for having sex.

An unwanted pregnancy doesn’t serve either parent.

It doesn’t serve the father, who will be responsible for child support payments on a child he didn’t want.

It doesn’t serve the mother, who must spend nine months in physical discomfort and pain before an extremely painful birth of a child she doesn’t want.

It doesn’t serve the child, who is not the loved product of a decision between ready parents, but is instead viewed as the physical manifestation of a punishment. The child is unwanted, created by unprepared parents, and now has to live their life knowing they were unwanted.

You can’t defend children, and then ask them to be raised by parents who never wanted them. That’s cruel.

And before someone interjects, adoption is an alternative to parenthood. It is not an alternative to pregnancy.

Some of my followers already know the story of how I got my dog, Strider. For those that don’t, 2 ½ years ago a friend of mine was visiting us in Savannah, GA and found a stray momma dog begging for food. She followed momma and discovered a litter of 8 puppies under a nearby abandoned building. We found loving homes for all the pups, but Sasha, the momma, requires a bit of extra care and as a result has been moved from foster home to foster home in the time since we found her. Her current situation is seeing her moving from Virginia to Texas, where she will hopefully be finding her forever home, but getting her there and set up with a trainer is expensive. In July 2009, Green’s grandson, Tallie, was shot and wounded. Tallie said he was shot at a convenience store, but police insisted it happened inside Green’s house and that the shooter was either Tallie or Green.

“Police kept questioning him. They wouldn’t let the ambulance attendant treat him,” Green said. “So, I got up and said, ‘Sir, would you please let the attendants treat him? He’s in pain,’” Green said.

Green said the officer said to her, “Oh, you did it, come on, let’s go inside. I’ll prove where that blood is. You did it.”

Police wanted to go the basement, where Tallie lived, but Green refused on the basis that the police did not have a warrant.

“I said, ‘No, you don’t have a warrant. You don’t go down in my house like that. He wasn’t shot in here.’” Green said the officer replied, “I’m going to find that gun. I’m going to prove that you did it.”

A struggle ensued between a male officer and Green.

“He dragged me, threw me across the chair, put handcuffs on me and just started calling me the ‘b’ name. He ridiculed me,” Green said.

An officer went into the basement and Green locked him inside.

“She locked the door, the basement door. She basically took matters into her own hands,” Nilson said.

“This was my private home, and if I latched it, that was my prerogative because he had no search warrant to go in my basement. So, I had to right to latch it,” Green said.

Green said she suffered a separated shoulder in the scuffle, and she sued the Police Department for assault and violations of her rights.

“I was once a block watcher, department head of a high school. (I’ve) been around education for over 50 years. (I’m a) law-abiding citizen, I’ve never been arrested, I paid my taxes, owned my home, my husband died 34 years ago. (I) raised my son and I have been brutally abused,” Green said. “I feel like the Police Department needs to go back to school.”
