I do! Behold, a ramble.

So there is A Hawk and a Handsaw's moments which are a sly oddity coming off the prior episode was the most of season 1 Ray successfully wooing a woman. And then content to get left by.

A side note regarding the brother? reference: It doesn't matter as much as a one-off mention though it works for me in sure why not an extra not often mentioned Vecchio sibling? In not being discussed but calmly known by Fraser's lack of reaction, perhaps through estrangement or already passed in childhood?? I read too many a fic.

What is more wild about this episode's moments is Ray's timing of bringing this all up and having this swirling in the midst not of some brotherly feels, as they don't even know Walter and Ty are brothers in both instances, but it swirls around and in regards to his closest relationship of Fraser. Who he's tagging along for here or pointedly in the throws of trying to explain at.

It's just deliciously weird.

But Ray's bisexuality disaster/demons moments encore...

A couple small ones stick out to me.

This Heaven and Earth moment tagged and in connection with the end conversation with Frannie is something.

It's very I confess your my ideal adjacent. Very generous indeed.

Very not a way dudes admire other dudes as a better man. Because it's not respecting in prowess or a wanting to emulate.

It's also clearly not truly you would be good for my sister, because hello reality, and hello again end scene which is Ray demanding or begging Frannie to keep Fraser unattainable and not have slept or sleep with, and telling her point blank Fraser is just too perfect!? for her...and her challenging and highlighting the problem is not want, it's courage to try for the good dream thing you want.

YO BRO.

So lots going on there.

There is also Invitation to Romance's split second gag where Fraser razzes that it could be a norm for Ray to wear his uniform for ???

Like Ray's got a kink about it.

(Which then they put Victoria in it in contrast to sexpot Fraser! Right as he's shooing Ray away the first time. OK show. Also Flashback says valid valid because Ray does find the uniform makes Fraser more attractive aka telling amnesia Fraser 'You look really good in it.')

There is Ray showing up on Fraser's doorstep the second time in Victoria's Secret, after the stupid false cheer of first finding Fraser has a woman over and having zero questions??? but yet, the way a friend lets you down on boy's night being hurtful is not life alterable versus whatever that was in Ray's head-space reaction. Showing up then in the a.m. that same night at Fraser's place to dramatically confront and absolutely acting like it's the end because Fraser's excluded you, forgot you, and doesn't want you if he has a GF... A tad dramatic. (I love it.)

There is also the way his father's ghost is calling Ray's mind-set out, like hello, on the mortgaging the family home and your reasons having fled in the face of your relationship/desire/love of Fraser. The way it seems like a worn argument of his fatherly ghost judging Ray's strong feelings over common sense or expected tradition.

Finally, I find the therapist in Letting Go telling a guilt ridden Ray to discuss his feelings and find out Fraser's carries connotations on more than just the shooting. Like a rejection as a fallout of those events would be seen painful yes, but why are you so afraid of it? And this one minute recap update scene is like I've maybe got you pegged but you are refusing to discuss that.

Also also end on the Some Like It Red of it all. Ray doesn't care if he's dancing with a guy if it's Fraser. Ray doesn't treat Ms. Fraser any differently than Fraser. Ray launches into a very funny flirty speech on Fraser making a good looking woman who has the exact qualities Ray is attracted to, but alas Fraser is not an actual woman, he's a man. (Have you learned nothing Ray?; he can be whatever construct he wants!) Well, yeah maybe you have a little because Fraser calls you on it and you immediately ask him out. And thus the flirt continues.

In conclusion... What the hell, my guys?

In conclusion what logically makes sense in Ray's deals in all this, if he's not in bisexual disaster and angst love with Fraser?!

fandom approaches male characters from a watsonian perspective and female characters from a doylist perspective

by virtue of being made up constructs everything about fictional characters only exists as far as what is told about them, and yet underdeveloped male characters are assumed to have rich inner lives that the writer have simply not tapped into - when they actually did not give them any - and it's therefore up to fans to rescue the character from the writer's assumed negligence and explore him themselves through headcanon-ing the shit outta them picking up small bits of characterization and expanding from it, whereas female characters are taken at extreme face value: if the writer did not give them an inner life then she doesn't have one period, even within the universe of the story where everyone is a living breathing person, and it's not worth exploring. even when the small bits of context and characterization about her insinuate something interesting about inner world and leave room to spin an interesting backstory and motivations there seems to be no interest in fandom to do so.

and 9 times out of 10 this only applies to the white male characters. black and brown male characters are assumed to be as shallowly written and imagined as all female characters are, sometimes even when the show DOES depict their rich inner life.
