i think it's tempting to be defeatist about this, but everyone is a few easy google searches away from fixing their surfing experience. adblockers are good. dns-based ad and tracker blocking is easy to set up with a little effort. browser extensions will reign in cookies and scripts. your internet surfing experience CAN be ad-free, and faster because your browser is not loading 293847 scripts and running auctions in the background to see who gets your data. but you have to put in a modicum of effort.
1) people should not have to put effort into not having their data taken and sold from them
2) even with all the ad blockers in the world they still get through because nothing is 100% especially with sponsored content (and ESPECIALLY when it's not flagged as sponsored content)
3) sometimes you will have to use devices that aren't your own and that you can't just download adblockers on, like public computers
4) stop making this out to be an issue created by the individual when it's the fault of megacorporations polluting the online sphere with bloat that wastes actual material energy and resources for pointless advertisements

idk I can tell that some tumblrinas are not up on fat politics because I see a lot of people saying stuff like âitâs better to be a little fat than waste your life trying to be thinâ or like âitâs chic to have a little bellyâ like okay but there are fat people who are âa lot fatâ and have âa lot of bellyâ which everyone is weirdly silent on all the time. Like the fattest person on earth still deserves to exist in human society with joy and dignity regardless of how they got to that weight or how many health conditions they have as a result of their personal actionsâŚthat should be everyoneâs baseline here Iâm not really sure whatâs complicated about it
we really canât overstate how damaging it has been to indoctrinate the public with the idea that if they let themselves eat as much as they want, theyâll eat too much. human bodies, when permitted over the long term to eat as much as they want, actually get really, really good at calibrating their hunger and satiety, and will over time eat exactly the right amount for themselves. the common conception of a balanced eater as a minimal or restrained eater is absolutely wrong. balanced eaters eat quite a lot (compared to diet cultural ideas about right intake amounts), and they do so consistently and permanently. healthy, balanced eating isnât some tightrope walk, itâs a gigantic net of total permission to eat.
