Margin of Error || Chapter 5 (Mastermind Trial) || Chifuyu || RE: Lowell, Katsunosuke, Rowan, ATTN: Rowan, Junpei
The mastermind trial has started..! Chifuyu can’t help but be nervous, but he has a kind of tenacious optimism at the fact that everyone could be one vote away from freedom! He takes a moment to consult with his neighbor in a soft whisper, ending that with two double thumbs ups that everyone could probably see.
Catherine and Akihiro’s announcements kind of.. put a damper on that hopefulness, though.
“G-Geez, that’s… at least three deaths if we are correct. If I’m assuming right, at least four, given two deaths for the murder and at minimum two masterminds. Aha, at least a 21% decrease in the number of living people, alongside a projected 29%…”
He trails off, shaking his head and giving a small shrug in the style of someone else.
“It’s inevitable, I suppose, but we… just need to focus on doing our best to figure out who’s behind this! I’ll do my best to help save everyone! Ahaha, that sounds kind of like something a hero would say, doesn’t it..?”
Standing up straight, he listens to everyone speak and tries to focus on solely the facts, nodding a little as they continue on.
“The list of talents I have that were received by my hall in general and were not assigned to a deceased person are… SHSL Street BMX Rider, SHSL Medical Examiner, SHSL Multi-Instrumentalist, and SHSL Utaite.”
“And, well, this one may have an obvious owner, so I hope you don’t mind me calling you out, but I also received a SHSL Wheelchair Basketball player.”
He gives a small, apologetic nod in Rowan’s direction. Then he looks around, pointing with his finger as he does a head count. He’s doing some kind of math in that head of his right now, that’s for sure.
“So there are.. 14 people in this room. Of all the titles that have been said so far, there are seven titles left that do not have owners: that is, Street BMX Rider, Medical Examiner, Utaite, Multi-Instrumentalist, Landscape Painter, Stylist, Florist, Boxer. I could attest to knowing my own and another’s, if everyone’s willing to take my word for it, which would leave five unknown talents entirely.”
He can’t help but wonder what the status on saying talents aloud at this point is. He remembers a foreboding voice speaking to him at the start saying not to, but… there was never an explicit rule not to do so or a punishment listed for doing so. He’ll pocket those thoughts for now, waiting to see if someone else has better opinions on things.
Katsunosuke’s hint helps, and he’s glad the hint was given before the trial, apparently. That makes things a bit easier…
“Junpei-san, Lowell-san, and Juuri-san are the living lords on Hoshido’s side, while Yuna-san, Ayano-san, and Rowan-san are the living lords on Nohr’s. If we’re to take Katsunosuke-san’s hint at face value, then two of these six must be the mastermind.”
And this is where his usefulness begins to drop. Accusations? That’s scary. And he’s not absolutely positive what there is to go on. Opinions make much less sense than numbers do, after all. He has no idea where to start on the topic of fake names, either.
“Er, if it’s.. not rude of me to say so… I believe Junpei-san is the most likely suspect on the Hoshidan side. I could give reasoning behind this, but I’d rather.. not, unless necessary. Apologies.”
Does he want to admit he’s mostly making a judgement of character and trust here? Not at all, especially not right after Junpei talked about using a ‘logical approach’.
“As for the Nohrian Mastermind, I’m not really sure. We can safely assume one of their titles, if it becomes relevant, but I don’t have a solid opinion, really.”
He rubs the back of his neck and shrugs once again, closing his eyes as to not end up nervously looking around the room. He’d just talked a lot and hoped he wasn’t being counterproductive at all, here…
