Here is an article from NPR about it (May 22, 2026):
Carolina Milanesi, an independent technology analyst, said Google is trying to make its cash cow business — search — richer and more personalized, and it will make shopping easier. But there is a risk that users may have fewer choices about what to click. "Right now it's: I ask a question, I get a bunch of answers and I feel that I'm in control as to which answer I take, or if I'm looking for something, which product I'm going to end up buying. That is going to be less so going forward," she said. Milanesi envisions AI-enabled search and agents proposing products to consumers — perhaps even those they have requested — but with less clarity or choice around where it's coming from. "If you're going to say: 'I want a pair of Jordans, go find them,' you're not necessarily sure what steps have been taken and whether the AI has used a source or a store that was paid for and therefore came up in the search results," she said, "or if AI actually went and did their due diligence and picked the best for me as a customer."
And here's one from Time magazine (May 20, 2026):
While Google already has “AI Mode,” the company will now power the whole search bar through its new Gemini 3.5 Flash model. Instead of the classic list of blue links, Google Search will now also generate a custom page with an AI-generated summary of what you’re searching about, which will then trigger a conversation with AI Mode on the main page, allowing users to ask follow-up questions—similar to the kind of layout you would see when opening ChatGPT.
And a little more from Time's article on how this may affect the websites that we are trying to search for:
When Google first started implementing AI-assisted results, news publishers warned of “catastrophic” impacts on the industry, much of which relies on Google search to drive users to their websites. Last year, news websites saw significant traffic declines as chatbots increasingly replaced Google search as the primary way to find sites and ask questions. Small businesses also noted drops in traffic to their sites from Google, which has traditionally delivered customers. Lily Ray, vice president of SEO strategy & research at Amsive, a digital marketing agency, warned as early as last year that Google’s planned changes to search are “going to have a devastating impact on the Internet.” “It will severely cut into the main source of revenue for most publishers and it will disincentivize content creators who rely on organic search traffic, which is millions of websites, maybe more,” she told Technology Magazine.
noai.duckduckgo.com blocks all AI content in search results automatically
in firefox’s latest update you have the option to turn off the ai features
RIP Google
i see the most recent TRA argument against sexual dimorphism in humans regarding male strength (and height) is “girls are fed less and told to keep thin, if they weren’t malnourished as children, they would be just as strong as men”
i’d like to ask: how do you explain the physical advantages women have over men, then? how do you explain women having higher body fat, stronger immune system, greater flexibility, higher pain tolerance and endurance? if women are capable of being just as strong as men, then do these advantages make us strictly superior? or would men eating less result in somehow having more body fat and more endurance??
idk why they insist on completely denying sexual dimorphism in muscle mass like it doesn’t make sense that evolutionarily, men evolved to be glass canons since they are less necessary for reproduction, and women evolved to survive. no one is saying women are destined and doomed to be barefoot pregnant housewives, but it’s stupid to pretend evolution doesn’t occur based on survival and reproduction of the species. it might be uncomfortable, but i don’t think feminism is going to go anywhere if we insist on denying science and reality.
men have no advantage over women in STEM, management, education, social sciences, arts, or just about any other non-physical field. lord forbid, maybe women aren’t the best pick for lifting as much weight as possible, but that isn’t particularly relevant in modern life anyways, is it? besides the value men put on their own strength, awarding themselves for lifting, it really isn’t very practical - would you rather be able to lift more or get sick less often, experience less pain and live longer?
the fact that people hear “less muscle mass” and for some reason think that translates to “incapable of paid work in modern society, only useful for making babies” is absurd

You can replace [ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY] with [SCROLLING] but watch out. This sucks bad 👍
Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:
1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!
2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.
3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)
hmmm, this seems to be some kind of curse breaking spell… be free ye reader

Rent Seeking Behaviour is the term for the capitalist action of trying to derive money from a source without creating anything, simply by owning it and forcing others to pay for access, usually in an instance where previously access was direct and permanent. eg: streaming films instead of owning DVDs
our entire global economy is trapped in a system that requires almost every step of creation, shipping, selling, and owning to be hampered and siphoned by a bunch of financial vampires. they aren't even middle men because in most cases the products on offer predate them by decades or even centuries. they're highwaymen just taking a scoop of everything that passes down the road
Rent. Seeking. Behavior
Excellent phrase thank you I'll take that one
NATO’s not there for America? America’s not there for America.
*deep breath* If the antifascist (esp. American-centered) art you make or consume refuses to acknowledge the truth that framing this time period as the "sudden rise of fascism" along with its supposed volatility (i.e. "it can't last; that's not how its built") is just a comforting construct to keep white Americans from reckoning with their literal centuries of active and passive participation in this country's fascist, genocidal violence against Indigenous and Black people, your art isn't just wrong...it's worthless. How can you imagine dismantling unjust systems without seeing the blood on your own hands? How do you comprehend the size of the fight for mutual liberation without seeing that the scale of the threat is exponentially larger than your personal experience of the danger of state violence; or is your envisioned win condition only as shallow as the return to your previous sense of safety?
Ignoring the complexities and well-established enmeshment of fascism in Western culture for the sake of simpler stories to inspire rising to this moment in history only builds fair-weather fighters ill-prepared for the rigors of revolutionary action. It also widens the rift between those newly awakened to the struggle and their neighbors that have lived it for generations (and have built and maintained systems of community support and resistance that have protected them for just as long).
If antifascist art doesn't first demand you turn the eye inward, it is only escapist fluff.
Some of you genuinely think a woman can be so privilleged that she stops being oppressed on the basis of being a woman, and that a man can be so oppressed he can stop having access to male privilege. And that's not how it works.
It's especially scary from those of you who insist loudly on being intersectional liberal socialists etc because I'm forced to worry about what else you think works that way.
