cleaning with ADHD is a nightmare. itās an endless cycle of finding a half-finished chore and stopping the one you were already working on, then remembering that something else needs to be done and getting started on that, then finding half-finished chore and
i have the solution! i call it ājunebuggingā.
have you ever seen a junebug get to grips with a window screen? itās remarkably persistent, but not very focused. all that matters is location.
how to junebug: choose the location you feel you can probably get some shit done on today. be specific. not āthe bathroomā but āthe bathroom sinkā. you are not choosing a range, you are choosing a center; you will move around, but your location is where youāll keep coming back to. mentally stick a pin in it. consider yourself tethered to that spot by a long mental bungee cord.
go to your location. look at stuff. move stuff around. do a thing. get distracted. remember youāre junebugging the bathroom sink and go back there. look at it some more. do a different thing. get distracted. get a sandwich. remember youāre junebugging and go back to the bathroom sink.
ntās will go crazy watching you, and if they demand to know When You Will Be Done you will probably have to roll them in a carpet and stuff them up the chimney. youāre done when you feel done, or youāre too bored to live, or itās bedtime, or any number of other markers, you get to pick. but the thing is, by returning repeatedly to that one spot, you harness the āhyperactivityā part instead of wasting all that energy battling with the āattention deficitā part.
not only will the bathroom sink almost certainly be clean, and probably the mirror and soap dish too, you mightāve swapped in a fresh toothbrush, a new soap, you mightāve unclogged the drain ā you will probably also have cleaned or fixed up several things in the near vicinity, or in the path between the sink and where you get the fresh toothbrush, or maybe you did your grocery shopping cuz you were out of soap, or maybe you couldnāt find a clean hand towel and ended up doing laundry.
this is good. you got shit done! it wasnāt necessarily Cleaned The Bathroom in the way ntās think of it, but screw āem. things are better than they were.
plus you worked off enough energy to be able to sleep. which is not small potatoes when living the ADHD life. :D
Donāt let the adorable name fool youāthis is some Seriously Good Advice. May be useful for brain fog and depression, too!
Reblogging to save my fellow ADHD peeps from the Sisyphusian curse of cleaning with no focus.
sometimes i wonder if we have forgotten that sharing creative work is, fundamentally, a bid for human connection. like I'm not posting art or fic for 'engagement' i'm posting it looking for other sickos to play with! i'd be making it anyway for my own gratification because there's something wrong with me, i'm sharing it hoping we can have something wrong with us together <3
everyoneās talking about how unhinged fans are nowadays about their blorbos. well let me tell you that when the polish writer henryk sienkiewicz first published his novel āwith fire and swordā in parts between 1883 and 1884, and killed off the beloved character longinus podbipiÄta, people nationwide were so upset theyād go to church and ask for requiem masses to be held in his memory. match THAT freak
yes i know about the arthur conan doyle sherlock frenzy this isnāt about that at all stop english cultural imperialism #slavicpride
#also theres a difference between harassing the author and wanting a mass to ask LITERAL GOD for salvation for the characterās soul.
[After shoveling the driveway for hours] Snow should be illegal [remembers I'm against the carceral state] We should restructure society so that snow doesn't happen [remembers we are actually doing that and it's very bad and also why this snowfall was so bad] Uh-oh
posting this over here from my bsky
something something getting away from the church but soon afterwards being on social media in the 2010s during the peak of YFIP, something something.
I actually think January is in desperate need of a complete rebrand I just donāt think now is the time to be hitting the ground running or starting fresh or grinding itās literally time to sleep and restore. Itās the darkest depths of winter, itās the coldest month of the entire year. I think that trying hard in January goes against nature and Iām not just saying that because I donāt want to go to the gym I truly feel like weāre not respecting the seasons and turning our backs completely on the natural flow of things and itās so BAD for your BODY and SOUL!! like itās not a coincidence that seeing the snow melt and the buds appear on the trees every spring makes me want to live again like thatās how itās supposed to feel and trying to force that feeling in January while everything around you is at peak levels of dead is so insane
"gender is a social construct": fairly easy for leftists to understand
"race is a social construct": a bit harder to swallow for some but still reasonable
"mental illness is a social construct": this one gets you hate mail in your inbox
Gotta add previous tags on here, because this is gonna live rent free in my head from now on. The stars are real, constellations are not. Damn. Tags by @smoreofbabylon (if you donāt want me to put you on blast like this Iāll delete lol!)
adam wakes up, probes his side. rib gone, wound sticky. god's fingers have touched a place that will never be touched again. how does adam not curl up, swell and fall, beg god to touch him again. to touch him everywhere else. not just ribs but cheek, inner thigh, lap. the worst part of the side-wound is not that god penetrated you but that he won't do it again
So uhh the Corruption of Hollis Brown is quite easily my new favorite K. Ancrum book (sorry Wicker King). I am utterly obsessed and I don't think that I'm going to be over it for a while.
what is sheol?
sheol is the hebrew bible's after-living. referents attached to it are a pit, a womb, a mouth, a hole, a warmth. it is kept hazy, assyrian, and openāsamuel re-turns from it, nephesh trapped in pillow-cases miss it, bread and oil move from kitchens and house-tombs to those within it. sheol is the home of every body, there is no heaven/hell phallic separation here

Reading the corruption of hollis brown has filled me with such incredible longing. Imagine being so very close to someone like that⦠to be known in a way that isnāt truly possible in reality
Asexual people who feel pressured into having sex when they donāt want to and queer people that are afraid or ashamed of having sex even though they want to are actually being repressed by the same societal forces but nobody seems to want to talk about that
Society at large wants you to experience sex in a very predictable way. It might feel like the āother sideā of this problem is actually more societally accepted but this isnāt true. Society not only demands that you have sex but it demands you have a specific type of sex in a specific type of body with a specific type of person with another different specific type of body.
Having sex with a body outside the norm or with a person outside the norm in a way outside the norm is seen as rediculous. So is opting out of sex altogether. In reality both are seen as unacceptable.
The desires of those who donāt want sex and those who want sex thatās seen as abnormal by society may be different but the thing thatās stopping us from living how we want is the same.
it kind of shocks me how different the level of attention Compound Fracture got compared to AJW's other books. obviously GoodReads ratings aren't everything but for CF to only have 6.5k almost a year after its release is sort of depressing
it's such a good book. it tackles such big topics and handles them with great care and finesse. Miles's journey accepting his autism is brutal and beautiful. the addressing of class warfare in a small town. the exploration of West Virginia's history. the way it tackles being queer in a small town. you can tell that this was a book coming straight from AJW's soul and he pulled it off so cleverly - he doesn't shy away from the rough stuff but he also doesn't rush through the parts that feed your soul, that give you hope
when i first read it last November, I told people to pick it up if they were despairing about Trump. I am repeating that request now: if you are feeling beaten down and hopeless about how the US gets through the next 3.5 years, pick up Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White and let yourself be reminded about how we really get through this shit
It would be remiss of me to not mention his pets: the queer as fact story
crocheting and listening to the queer as fact podcast is one of the most soothing and peaceful times in my life
have i ever related more to something on tumblr? probably not

āMrs Rā was the pseudonym of Phyllis Shafer, a Kansas City local who helped found the Phoenix Society for Individual Freedom in 1966, a full three years before Stonewall. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she and her son Drew operated the Phoenix House, a safe haven for queer people in the city, and a hub of national queer activism. Drew passed away due to AIDS related complications in the 1980s, and his lover, Mickey Ray, spent the rest of his life fighting to keep his memory alive, largely contributing to the creation of the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America.
Years before the Stonewall uprising, Drew Shafer started Kansas City's first gay rights organization and published the first LGBTQ magazine
āWe tend to view American history as this constant march toward progress, which is total crap,ā he says. āYou gotta fight for that stuff. And if you don't fight for that, you can fall backward. Like it's not just this linear history."
Good quote from the article which may be relevant right now.
