The Vampire Lestat 3.06 "Montreal"
it really pisses me off when adults sit there and drill it into kidsā heads that their youth is fleeting and tell them things like āenjoy your childhood while it lasts because this is the best itās gonna getā. why are you telling children that adulthood is the worst thing they can experience? seriously what the fuck is wrong with you, why are you trying to make them feel like growing up is a fate worse than death? trying to convince them their life is over before it even begins? iām tired of that shit. because tell my why my 12 year old cousin told me when she turns 30 sheāll be so depressed sheās just gonna cry all the time. what the fuck. kids donāt need to hear that their already stressful and overwhelming lives are never going to get better, that the abuse and lack of autonomy they face is apparently the highlight of their lives. they need to hear about adults who are happy to be alive and happy to have made it to their age. they need to know that growing up rules, itās a gift and life does not have to suck for them, that they have a future thatās worth sticking around for. this rhetoric is so damaging mentally and iām about to start hitting the adults who parrot it. iām sorry you hate your life but you donāt get to dump your issues on these kids. donāt piss me off and leave these babies alone!
this old man really said "the only reason my son comes to Harlan is your son!" yes, yes he does
your cat was an honor to see in the window

This show was so insane
i dont mean to victim blame but why do these vampires keep talking to daniel molloy when they know he's daniel molloy
as a rule it's always more interesting when two people who know each other outlive a third person that they both loved and then their relationship becomes So Much Weirder and more emotionally fraught, entangled, and charged when that third person dies
"it's ok to show (x) in fiction as long as the bad guy gets punished!" the bad guy doesn't have to get punished. in fact the bad guy can win altogether. the bad guy can entirely get away with it. hope this helps
and this part might make some people's head explode but: characters can be written to forgive things you personally wouldn't ever forgive. not everything is written as what you'd perceive to be the right choice. not everything is a self-insert & protagonists don't have to be relatable.
He can push me off the tower or the cliff or whatever š
the writers did so fucking well at portraying and deconstructing the over abundant amount that lestat in the text romanticizes his abusers. he calls it the "seduction of magnus" multiple times throughout the vampire chronicles instead of admitting he was preyed upon. when you read the books you have to look between the lines of his flowery prose and avoidance but the show took a corny over the top music video style approach and then slammed it next to a full blown ptsd flashback to make sure the audience did not have a chance to misinterpret or mock anything and i respect them for that
Op, the tags deserve to be here too!
Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
⦠I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing Iāve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, heās stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, theyāre still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but theyāre still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewerās lived experience. Theyāre still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And itās beautiful. Itās beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because heās presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and Iām delighted to announce sheās since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine š³ļøāā§ļø
Actor and Writer
Thereās a whole series of the Hamlet videos on her YouTube, as well as a bunch of other films sheās made
Only publishing people will get how bonkers this is but:
I just got a starred review for Adam Mine that was so good that they literally quoted me in the review. Itās so insane. The quote was:
āAs one alchemist tells Elias, āAll wisdom untimely requires payment in despair,ā and there is wisdom and despair to spare, here, but also tenderness, compassion, and understanding of the sometimes-hideous process of growth through mistakes.ā
I canāt post about the starred review (and who gave it) until closer to release, but ahhh!!!
Louis: yeah so i've been paying this girl in like a sugar daddy situation except its to be claudia except its not not kind of got a weird vibe because she's hooking up with a friend of hers who pretends to be madeleine and i held her hand while she was forcibly frozen and i don't know if that's weird or not Lestat: I got shot like six times last month Louis: this isn't about you
In my mind I was praying fiercely, God help me, the Virgin Mary help me, help me, help me, as I peered up into his face. - The Vampire Lestat
Lestat going through the extremely relatable situation where no one trains you for your new job and then you get in trouble for not knowing how to do the job
no iām fine itās just that lestat can recognize claudia by the the way that she walks and the sound of her heart :(
