hello massachusetts poor people in my phone. if you have an EBT card, a connectorcare card, or a WIC card then you automatically qualify for ridiculously discounted entry to a ton of museums and theaters and other institutions in the state as long as they participate in the "card to culture" program. regular adult admittance to the boston museum of fine arts is $30, I went a few weeks ago and paid $3; I'm considering seeing black swan at the ART before it closes and seats that are normally $150 would cost me $5. most places I've checked give a few of these discounted tickets per card holder per entrance so if you want to go to the MFA with three friends you can do so for a clean $12. even if you aren't a particularly arts inclined person, I think this rules as a way to check out something new at very low risk, and there are participating institutions all across the state. go see a live play for the cost of a fancy coffee.

For those outside of Massachusetts: Museums For All has a map that lists museums who offer similar discounts across the US! And it's worth asking at MA Card to Culture museums if they'll give you a discount if you have an EBT card from another state - not all of them will, but when I worked at a Card to Culture museum, we were encouraged to be as generous with EBT benefit discounts as possible to people visiting from out of state.
