Endlessly diabolical how you can't say words like rape and suicide uncensored without either being criticised by idiots or punished by conglomerates.
It's not r*pe, it's rape. It's not su*cide, it's suicide. Not unalive, dead. The backbone needs to be reintroduced en masse because softening the blow of these concepts with advertising language does absolutely nothing but allow people unaffected by them to feel not even a sting of what they can do, prompting inaction.
And it's been proven that on certain websites, you don't even face a repercussion for using the words as they are. People just started censoring themselves because they feared the potential lack of views and likes and followers which is so nasty itself.
I attended an anti-suicide seminar in college. One of the big takeaways from it was that stigmatizing suicide increases the rate of suicide, because people who are feeling suicidal feel like they can't ask for help. Every time I see babytalk garbage like 'unalive', I think of that.
Use the real words. Words have power, and they matter.
I have said this before, but I think this is one of the reasons that younger generations are so Puritan about⊠Everything. Theyâve grown up on platforms like YouTube that censor the fuck out of every thing. So censored, that they donât even put it in the captions. And you are demonetised if you say these words.
So these kids are grown up with these banned words and having to use alternative words to describe them (rape/grape, paedophilia/pdf, etc) being the worst things you can do.
However, simultaneously, theyâve also grown up seeing powerful people both in the media, as well as political world leaders who are accused of these things that are soïżŒdevastatingly serious no one is even allowed to say the word â and yet these powerful people have zero consequences â or even happily joke and admit that they do these things.
This is such an absurd dichotomy. That the word is the real danger, but that the perpetrators â some of whom had admitted these things â not only retain their power and positions, but actually continue to rise and rise and gain more power.
As an Old watching all of this, Iâm able to understand that the act itself of rape or sexual assault or paedophilia or abuse has a far more devastating impact on people than the words.
But these kids growing up on the YouTube generations have grown up with the opposite reality. Theyâve grown up with the reality of, sure, the president of the most powerful country in the world can openly joke and brag about the fact that he has sexually assaulted people and that he is sexually attracted to his own daughter â but if you say that in a YouTube video, the video will be buried and possibly even taken down because you said those words. You didnât censor them.
It baffles me that people are genuinely confused about why the kids these days are so Puritan when it comes to the language of things like sexual assault, but they donât take the actual act of sexual assault very seriously.
Because they have grown up in a world that Encourages monsters to continue to gain power and popularity despite â or because they are monsters. Youâre just not allowed to label their crimes.
Their crimes are acceptable in this society. But people calling them out on those crimes is not.
Orwell was very concerned about the government imposing NewSpeak on the people, but the people have done it themselves.
the upside of ADHD is that it makes you a fucking genius
the downside is that you don't get to decide when and for how long you're a genius.
Or what you are going to be a genius about.
You have a big work project?
Nah. You're now a genius at making boardgames. For 7 hours.

there truly is something to be said about how jay will time and time again describe matt as the funniest person he's ever met since they were kids but then you'll see matt look at jay like this over his silly cartoon sketches and voices and it's like oh. oh i get it all so clear
Oh doggy hold ya bone
