for all the lobotomized tradwife Jay talk, I feel like it's important to remember that Matt (rpf) actually does fiscally support for Jay in a very real, tangible way. like Jay makes money bc Matt hires him to score his films. Matt provides for Jay, but actually. so when Jay talks to Matt in that soft little voice and only gently disagrees with him let's not forget that little fact lol

I honestly think Matt gives Jay so many bullshit, nothing, nepobaby roles (executive producer on everything; script supervisor to a guy who self admittedly doesn't read; composer for films that only use popular music; storyboard artist for a film that takes place in one office building??) in his films just to justify cutting him in on more money to get him thru the dry periods in between films.

Conspiracy theory but I think they let Matt have one non-negotiable for "Tony" and he picked Jay -- not just out of sentimental loyalty/emotional-support-composer reasons but bc that's part of their Deal. Jay as Matt's dependent, and it's Matt's job to always provide for him

(He didn't pick Jared even tho Jared is almost solely responsible for the Signature Look™ of a Matt Johnson film bc Jared is constantly booked and busy and 100% employable elsewhere!!)
