“I need solitude; I need to feel I belong to myself. I now begin to think that reading has become my secret life and personal refuge.”

The house being used is Wilton House in Wiltshire, family seat of the Earls of Pembroke for over 400 years; the painting is of the family of the 4th Earl by van Dyck.
The house is frequently used as a setting for period pieces, particularly the room housing the van Dyck, known as the Double Cube room:
Barry Lyndon (1976):

It is easy when blanketed with wealth to decide on the fate of those touched with poverty,
When you walk the world wearing intrepid arrogance with the privilege the color of your skin grants,
A second thought is not spared for those crying out when it’s not your own voice strained with fear in a society that doesn’t wish to provide justice for all,
An attempt to smother racism and keep it hidden as though it weren’t plain to see it’s a world crisis that infects too many bigoted minds.
Don’t allow yourself to be corrupted and used as a pawn for deceitful leaders in a tedious game of chess that kills more lives than it saves.
Wake up and embrace change. Read and become insatiable to all things anti-racist in providing a better future for us all. That more lives are not slaughtered because of racist behaviour.
“We read to know we’re not alone.” - William Nicholson, Shadowlands

BREONNA TAYLOR was such a beautiful woman who was murdered by police.
These police officers should be charged rather than the force claiming it was a “miscalculation,” or an “accident.”
It’s a shame that the law prosecutes civilians with ease, yet when it comes to police officers murdering lives it’s a lengthy trial.
This is why it’s still important to stay informed and updated on the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement. Don’t allow the lack of notifications on news stations to blind and deafen you towards believing the issue with racism is drastically changing for the better. The first step towards improving the safety of black lives is defunding the police who are taking actions into their own hands and murdering people due to the color of their skin.
