I think it would be hilarious if Ilya finds out that questions are not just a Shane Thing, but a Hollander Thing.

We see this with David’s inquisition about youtube and Yuna’s various questions to both of them throughout dinner.

The vast majority of Ilya’s family conversations have been silence or statements met with a yes or no.

So he really gets thrown in the deep end with three Hollanders who all seem to communicate through endless questions.

He also learns they get very excited to be asked questions. ‘David, how did the offices summer party go? David, why did you re-uh-reupholster the boat?’ or ‘Yuna, do you think Pittsburgh will make playoffs? Sveta does, but… Yuna, how did you get the surround-sound quality so good?’

It’s a little overwhelming at first but he’s so happy to learn how to be part of his family.

I feel like some of you guys are forgetting that when he met another queer person who had a different self-presentation than himself, after his initial self-conditioning and internalised homophobia made him think how weird they looked, Shane's first conscious thought was to correct himself and to be like 'I need more queer friends.' I guarantee you he would not prefer to be around his racist, sexist, homophobic ex-friends and teammates instead of his gayass sunshine-and-rainbows power-of-friendship hopecore team.
