This is Canon and you can't prove me otherwise. Just imagine all the abuse Michael and Vanessa had to go trough that would shape them into their adult selfs. William never minded raising a hand at his own children, not even a knife. He was always careful not to kill them or hurt them too much. Just hurt them enough to make them remember the pain, give them a lesson, remind them that he is not only their father but also God. He decides what happens next to them, so they better not fuck up anything.
