My parents control everything I do. They think it will make me a ‘good person’ (aka I’ll grow up to be a Christian housewife like my mom) instead they’ve created an anxiety ridden, compulsive liar who bottled up her emotions until she breaks down over the smallest thing and never tells them anything. One memory I have that really shows how overprotective they are is a few years back when I was very into undertale. I loved the game, the music, the art, the story, everything. I made massive amounts of art for it and talked about it all the time to my friends. Finally I mustered up the courage to share my love of the game with my dad. I showed him some of the soundtrack and explained the plot. Immediately he decided to google it. I got nervous because of his expression as he scrolled around. He got very accusatory and told my mom I was “scared he would find something bad.” He decided to read a fear mongering mommy-blog which compared the game to a creepypasta (??) and immediately decided the game was evil and told me I wasn’t allowed to like it anymore. Back then I wasn’t my own person and what they said was law to me so I completely divorced myself from the thing I had been so passionate about. Now I don’t listen at all and simply hide everything. I use tumblr on a fucking mobile browser in incognito mode, the same goes for youtube. I used to have a discord and lots of friends until they almost found it and I had to leave for good. I never make friends online now because I know I’ll have to leave them. That’s all.
