This article shows the difference between being granted rights to things such as education versus being able to access those rights wherever you live. The issue isn't that these Guinean teenagers are not able to provide themselves with an education, but rather that they have limited access to elements such as electricity and light to maintain academic standards.

This post draws on the irony of OneDirection publicly stating their interest in "natural girls" while simultaneously marketing beauty products to young teenage girls.

A while back I posted a similar image of European fashion models dressing as Kurdish female guerillas. There were some mention of lack of authenticity of the previous images. But now this form of cultural appropriation from a more “authentic” fashion outlet. Again, I re-iterate that the so called “fashion” of the Kurdish female guerilla is a political statement based on the severity and extreme nature of their environment, NOT a fashion statement. They dress this way because it is the Kurdish equivalent of combat fatigues because they are fighting a terrorist group that believes that if these women are captured they should be gang raped, tortured and then literally killed through decapitation! I re-iterate the EXTREME nature of the environment of these Kurdish girls and women, many of whom are mothers and who are dying in order protect the safety and very existence of their children, as well as humanity. As a feminist and as a Kurdish woman I find this form of cultural appropriation DEEPLY painful, deeply disrespectful of the terrifying environment that my Kurdish sisters live in every.single.day. I find the idea that I should be “grateful” that these Kurdish women are gaining any sort of “attention”, even if it happens to be in European fashion magazines, deeply abhorrent. The bravery, the perseverance, the courage and the sacrifice of these women for their ethnicity, for their family and community as well as humanity is enough reason for them to be recognized; not the clothes that they done in order to leave their loved ones, their babies and hearts behind in order to stand on the front lines against the inhumanity of ISIL terrorists! Not the clothes that they DIE in! Not the clothes in which they chose to sacrifice themselves for humanity! Not the clothes in which they are captured, raped and then killed in the most brutal of ways possible! Call me a pessimist, but I am too emotionally drained and exhausted with worry over the massacre, the rape and kidnapping, the chemical weapons use against my people and against other minorities, and the possible genocide that could come at any minute to cater to the feelings of privileged white people only concerned with emulating and “looking” as courages as my Kurdish guerilla sisters do every single day, and making money out of the blood of these women being shed daily for their privileges.

Irigaray explains heteronormative thought as an ingrained capitalistic system in which we view males as "agents of exchange" and females as "commodities". This makes the argument that heteronormativity is an inherently socio-economic system in which capitalism is considered to be the "norm" in economic theory just as heterosexuality is considered to be the "norm" in our contemporary society.

This quote by Karl Marx discusses the process of commodifying workers, in terms of viewing them as "labor" rather than people. Dehumanization of workers is a long-standing socio-political practice used to distance the employer from the employee on an emotional level. You can't feel bad about overworking and mistreating workers if you don't even recognize them as people.
Overview Frozen’s Whitewashing Controversy is an ongoing online debate surrounding the lack of people of color in Disney’s 2013 animated feature film Frozen.
The argument has been made that Disney "whitewashed" Frozen by depicting Kristoff, a member of the indigenous Sami people, as white rather than appearing more Asian. My critique of this debate is that photographic evidence shows that the Sami people in the 1800's (the supposed time period which Frozen takes place in) appear as racially diverse - some presenting as white, and others presenting more Asian. This calls into question the difference between ethnicity and race in terms of cultural identification and physical attributes.
One could make the argument that Disney "whitewashed" Kristoff by deciding to design him aesthetically as white presenting rather than Eurasian, however the critique that his skin tone is historically inaccurate is FACTUALLY inaccurate.
A satirical compilation of objectifying descriptions for white characters. This draws attention to the fetishization of persons of color's skin tone, and the underlying objectification of always comparing people of color to food products such as "coffee" or "almond".
This song just exploded on the internet as a "game-changer" in women's rights. The song manages to advocate for gender equality while representing women across multiple cultures, which is usually something that other main-stream pop culture fails to recognize and depict.

This campaign to end human trafficking makes the point that women from developing countries are promised respectable careers in Western Europe, but often end up being sold into human trafficking. The connection I drew from this was to "Goat Days" in regards to unlawful indentured servitude, or in this case, slavery.
