The world is spinning— sharp words dig into your ears, bright lights prickle behind your eyes, and your breathing staggers shallowly.
No, please, not again.
You hunch into a ball, rocking in an attempt to self soothe. If you could keep this at bay for one moment more, you wouldn’t explode. Everything would be—
“Hey,” a soft voice scatters the fog hazing over your mind.
You’re frozen stiff, staring at the ground.
“… do you need a hug?”
Hot tears sting the corners of your eyes. You shakily lean into their open arms.
Quietly, your f/o begins to hold you, smoothing a hand over your back as you shake.
“You’re doing great,” they remind you gently, slowing their breathing pattern so you can fall into synchrony. “I’m so proud of you.”
You clutch at their back, sniffling harder, which earns you a soft, “Shh shh shhh…” against the shell of your ear. Eventually, your own breathing evens out. Air feels sweet, rather than strangulating.
Wordlessly, your f/o leads you to a dark, quiet room, and hands you your favorite stuffed animal. They kiss you gingerly on the head, and soothing music floats through the canopy of your bedroom.
Reassuringly, they rub and pat at your back, and you sigh against them, relishing in the quiet.
“I love you,” you utter softly as soon as you find your voice.
Your F/O Helps You Unwind After a Long Day at Work

“Everyone was angry, and I got dirt and grime all over me!” you explain with an irritated huff. “And absolutely NO one appreciated anything I did. I feel dirty and gross and I don’t have any energy to make myself food tonight…” You slump over, sighing in defeat.
Your ramble is interrupted by a soft crinkling sound. Before you can register what’s happening, your f/o takes out a small sandwich, wrapped to-go from your favorite local diner.
“I figured as much, my sweet.”
“B-but— you didn’t have to—“
They silence you by nudging the sandwich against your lips. You chew slowly, eyes welling with gratitude.
“Ffank yew,” you murmur between bites, which earns a soft, beguiled laugh from your beloved.
“There you are. Just hungry, hm? Hungry and tired?”
You laugh and sniffle, nuzzling into their chest.
“Mmhm. Don’t ever leave,” you half-tease, but grip their hand tenuously.
“I won’t,” they whisper into your hair, peppering you with kisses that fall like rain.
You relish in the sprinkling of affection, taking your first, much needed deep breath since before your shift began.
“My love.”
“Hmmmm?”
Your f/o kisses your head resolutely.
“You deserve to be taken care of, the way you care so deeply for everyone else. Don’t you ever forget that.”
