I typically keep this blog strictly IWTV related, because that's my only reason for being on Tumblr, but since I was tagged by my beloved mutual @infinitelyweary I'll answer.
READING: I'm in between books. I just finished reading The Hairdresser of Harare by Tendai Huchu yesterday. I actually started reading this book early last year, but I stopped when I was 70-80% complete because I actually liked the main characters' relationship and wasn't ready for the climax that I knew would ruin everything. I also enjoyed the setting, I need to read more books set outside of the anglophone world. Now that I've finished the book I'm wondering if it was always written that way and I just forgot or if the ending is indeed as rushed as it seemed. It was predictable in some ways, but far less dynamic than I imagined it would be. It was as if the author had his plot points down, but was only given an hour to expand on them. I also didn't like how certain characters were framed, but that's a whole other issue.
I plan on reading Harlem Rhapsody by Victoria Christopher Murray next. It's been recommended a couple times and I enjoy historical fiction so I have higher hopes for that book.
LAST SERIES WATCHED: Technically "Forever" starring Lovie Simone, but I've only seen the first couple of minutes so far. It featured a Masego song, so it's starting off in the right direction as far as I'm concerned.
The last show that I actually finished was "It: Welcome to Derry". After watching the first three episodes I felt like it was the weirdest thing I've ever seen, mind you I've enjoyed plenty of unfiction/ARG media. I don't know if it's because I haven't seen the movies-though my mom made sure to spoil them for me after I explicitly told her about my plans to watch the show-or read the book, I liked it well enough. Do I have my critiques? Sure, but that's of anything I watch whether I enjoy it or not. I didn't find it scary, but that was to be expected, I don't find that genre of horror frightening in general. I'll watch the next season when it comes out.
LAST FILM: Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) It took me a minute to even remember that I watched this. I was already planning on watching this because I wanted to know why Sam was so obsessed, but then I saw a post from @yusiyomogi that mentioned it, while referring to the love as toxic and obsessive, so obviously I had to give it a watch at that point. I watched this early in the morning on some day this year and I was so annoyed that no one else was awake for me to complain about it to. I didn't like this movie at all. The aesthetic was nice enough, but most period films at least have that going for them. Keanu Reeves' accent was distracting, the same could be said about others, but his was by far the worst. The movie made me want to read the book, only because I knew there was no way some of the nonsense from the movie was in it. I at least understand why Sam likes Gary Oldman's performance and the line "I have crossed oceans of time to find you" is a good enough reason for this film to exist. Plus now I want to see more of Lestat's Dracula inspired fit that was featured in the teaser.
LAST SONG: I'm annoyed that I saw this as I had "First Time In New Orleans" by Shruti Kumar on repeat. I'm not that obsessed I swear. The song that I played before that was "Is It a Crime" by Sade from her Lovers Live concert (listed as an album on Spotify/full performance available on YouTube). If you're going to listen to this song it needs to be this version.
SWEET OR SALTY: Sweet to a ridiculous degree. If this was sweet or spicy then there'd be a conversation.
COFFEE OR TEA: I've only had coffee once and I didn't like it plus my body doesn't do well with a lot of caffeine, so let's go tea.
WORKING ON: Many things. One of my goals is to just complete more things. I drop things all the time whether I enjoy them or not for various reasons. I'm also doing a thing where I draw everyday, but that's more casual.
