what about a Reaper!Stan? Iām sure people have fond this before, I just think it would be pretty cool. Imagine if Stan didnāt actually die, just got hired by Death and lives a pretty normal life, except he kills peopleās for a living. A downside to this is that heās pretty much invincible, which can raise a couple eyebrows if, say, he gets shot 57 times and continued to walk after that. It would be cool if heās not the normal kind of reaper either, instead his job is kinda like Karma. Heās the vigilante that you canāt escape. Heās the one who cuts your life short if you do something to deserve such a thing. Stan quite liked his job, and never really was a problem until the person he had to kill was his own brother, to prevent the end of the world. Stan refuses to do so, but he thinks he does it anyways when he pushes Ford into the portal. He doesnāt think there is a Ford to bring back.
@poghuiro
Some more thoughts for the body sharing au/aka 2 Stans for the price of one (body) au
The worse thing about being stuck in one body, the thing ford resents most of all, is they can no longer cuddle or give each other physical affection the way they used to. Sometimes ford would take control of one arm, Stan will take control of the other, and they can give themselves a⦠kind of hug, even if itās not exactly the same.
Sometimes, ford will fill the bed with blankets and pillows and hug them and pretend heās hugging his brother. Theyāre so touch starved šš
AaaAaUghAghaaAArgh they'd feel so deprived of the signs of affection they always gave to and received from each other in their youth!!! Stan always liked to wrap his arm around Ford's shoulder and that's not physically possible anymore. Ford always liked to playfully punch Stan in the arm but now where even is "Stan"?
They'd both feel sooo emotionally incapacitated from not being able to show affection like they used to AND sooo touch starved from not getting those pieces of contact they used to get from their twin!
(It takes them back to those first days appart. To that day when Ford got made fun of for his hands as he was leaving school, he was used to that, he wasn't used to his neck and shoulder feeling so cold afterwards. To that time Stan was selling a Sham Total and told a customer she could also use it to strangle her husband. And she laughed. Which is good. Yeah. She she laughed... Why does it feel like the reaction he's missing isn't laughter?)
But then one day Ford is sulking in regret and guilt feeling and thinking of how he aided the arrival of the apocalypse by trusting a demon, how he saw a monster as his muse and built him a portal and pushed his friend away and got a crossbow and got himself so paranoid that-
"NO!"
Ford sobs, " ...what?"
"YOU ARE NOT THE ONE TO BLAME FOR THOSE THINGS! IT WAS THAT DEMON-WHATERVER THAT TRICKED YOU AND HE ALONE IS RESPONSABLE FOR WHAT HE DID TO YOU!"
"But-"
"BUT NOTHING! YOU'RE A VIRTUOUS MAN WHO GOT TARGETED BY A MONSTER WHO WANTED TO USE YOU AND TORMENT YOU. HE WOULD'VE DONE THAT TO ANYONE!! BUT IF YOU ASK ME, I DON'T SEE THE WORLD ENDING! SO THAT MUST BE BECAUSE YOU WERE MORAL AND SMART ENOUGH TO NOT GO THROUGH WITH HIS PLAN!!! YOU SAW THROUGH HIM AND BROKE AWAY FROM HIS TRICKERY! YOU. ARE. WINNING."
Stanley always had a way to comfort him through the impossible,
"you... you really mean it?"
Stan raised their left hand, and Ford swears he could hear those words spoken right next to him:
"High six?"
Ford smiled a little and raised their right hand,
"High six."
š
Heh, maybe not everything was lost...
Whatever you do donāt think about the fact that Stanley Pines was so depressed and that losing his brother should have been his final straw but he had to stay alive to bring him back and the idea of giving up on himself meant loosing Ford permanently so genuinely the only reason he lived through that part of his life was obligation and love to bring back his brother.
Whatever you do donāt think about that.
Itāll make you sad.
Everyone talks about Stan having some kind of power, usually somewhat psychic.
Well, what if Stanās powers are luck that comes across as misfortune?
Him getting stuffed in that trunk under a blazing sun and having to chew his way out? Lucky! In reality, the car burst a tire and they were gonna shoot him in the desert after they made him dig his own grave, so they just left him in there instead.
All those failed prison riots he tried to start? Too many guards on duty, he wouldāve been shot, so it only worked the second he would survive.
Ford falling in the portal?
If he hadnāt, Stan would still be homeless, heād be alone on the streets or dead. Ford falling was Stanās luck.
Of course, itād prove helpful sometimes and not as devastating. He dropped his last fifty cents to call his mom? Suddenly heās finding a $100 bill in a parking lot.
Shit like that. Okay Iām gonna go watch backrooms now, bye :)
This idea is so good but SO painful
but hear me out tho: what if another reason why the portal turning on was becauseāhad the portal not turned onāone of them would have ended up like, accidentally killing the other had the fight continued. Like, either one of them would have knocked the other over and the other would have hit their head wrongāor Stan would have knocked ford out and then bill would have taken over and killed Stan?
What if Stanās good luck actually helped keep ford alive on the other side of the portal. What if the luck knew that if ford was truly unable to be recovered, Stan wouldnāt be able to keep going on?
What if Stanās good luck helped keep the kids and soos safe too? They got into so many dangerous situations that summer, and yet, they always came out, well, not unscathed, but alive.
What if Stan luck acted as an extension of his love and protective nature and he never even realized
āStan would have knocked ford out and then bill would have taken over and killed Stan?ā
GOD.
The idea of that alone is horrifying. And the best part is, Stan having that luck makes it impossible for them to know of that possibility. Stan goes through life not knowing his life is supposed to go a certain way. He thinks heās down on his luck and suffering through everything and in reality heās just really lucky.
But, letās say Ford finds out about this luck when theyāre sailing together. Thereās so many āhe shouldāve diedā moments and Stan is essentially getting smacked around by a kraken but heās not dying.
Ford does tests and asks Stan questions.
ā ļø Tw for suicide attempts, scroll downā ļø
Stan admits to trying to kill himself multiple times but says āI canāt even do THAT right.ā
Gun always jammed, rope always snapped or the car always broke down, blades were too dull and he couldnāt keep down large amounts of pills. Literally NOTHING worked.
Itās why Stan always engaged in riskier and riskier behavior because he was just hoping SOMETHING would kill him.
šOKAY YOUāRE SAFE NOWš
Ford is both in awe and horrified. He does tests and yeah, Stanās luck keeps him from dying. He shows Stan his findings like heās discovered that Stan has a superpower and Stan doesnāt react the way Ford thinks he would.
Stan just looks at him and goes, āsoā¦my life wasnāt meant to be this bad? It was luck?ā
Ford tries to explain it, tries to say anything to make it sound better, but we all know Ford, he isnāt wired to make scientific findings sound good, he plainly states that itās extraordinary and that every time he tried to push Stan over the railing of the boat that he couldnāt.
Stan is both betrayed, angry and sad, because WHAT THE FUCK??? He doesnāt feel lucky! He feels completely worn down from living a rough life, he looks back on his life and sees misery and pain and getting his ass kicked by men stronger than him, failing at everything time and time again. How is that luck?
They fight for the first time since they were in gravity falls, since Bill was destroyed and he got his mind erased.
Ford tries to reason with Stan, but Stan just doesnāt budge. And now thereās no space to be had when theyāre stuck on a little ship in the middle of the ocean.
Thatās pretty much all I got angst wise, but YEESH, thank you for allowing me to yap on about this and putting your own input in!
Yipeeee I love yapping with people :3
What do u think of Stan getting hella imposter syndrome over this and wondering how much of his accomplishments are due to his own merit bs just his luck? :3
Learning that Stan's worst fear is not just losing the kids but losing them to Ford's impressiveness and love hurts so much. It wasn't Ford's fault, but he won their father's "love" (or at least looked like it) and then Stan thought he was going to lose more people to Ford being "better" than him. Meanwhile, Ford never even thought of keeping the kids from Stan. Ford has so little EQ that he can't see all of Stan's insecurities building up and affecting how he sees Ford. The lightbulbs moment really shows that feeling well. Ford was just making a great lightbulb, having no idea Stan just had a terrible day buying new ones. But Stan took that as Ford trying to one up him because of how his father always treated him as lesser than Ford. Ford was never a jerk. It's how reasonable and nice he is while still having issues with Stan that drives Stan crazy.
I love drawing these two š„¹
Stanford worked very hard for his title. He's quick to correct people when they refer to him as "Mr. Pines." He takes great pride in his achievement, 12 times over.
He never realized how much he could hate that title until his twin is quietly referring to him as Dr. Pines, eyes on the floor and posture defensive.
I read this as a Better World au thing taking place after Stan returns from hiding the journal, meybe a year after their last talk.
Ford expects a reunion, after all, he gave Stan a chance to undo his mistake and he actually achieved it! Ford can finally forgive him and make amends! But Stan has spent the last year letting Ford's sleep-deprived, contextless and resentful words sit on his brain and rot. Stan is here for a goodbye, he's officially done with the impossible task of belonging to this family again, a sunk coast fallacy got him through a decade of homelessness, through a year of sailing the seas to do the first worthwhile thing in his life, and maybe through the front door of this cabin, but this is it! He'll finish the job but he will not feign any closeness when addressing Dr. Pines...
"Funny" story under the cut xD
Oooh u guys wanna hear about my au where the Stans end up sharing a body so bad. U want me to talk about it
What?? You're just copying an idea from this pos... OH THAT WAS YOU
Hell yeah I wanna hear about it, put the details in the bag!! š«š°
[scurries back and forth like a creature] what kinda details u wanna hear about? :3
EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT, THIS IS A ROBBERY!!
(or, really, anything you wanna expand on first. like, whatever you've got more lucidly in your brain)
[scurries around. Scurries around]
Okey,, well, alrighty. So, Stanās soul is anchored to fordās bodyāhe can leave it for short periods of time but he needs to be near fordāgoes too far away and heās tugged back. Most of the time he just stays in Fordās body tho
When Stanās soul is in fordās body, they can sorta feel/sense each otherās emotions. Like, they sort of leak over a bit.
They canāt āreadā each otherās thoughts, but they can kinda communicate with their thoughts, like if they ādirectā a thought towards the other, itās basically talking telepathically I guess? So, thereās some privacy at leastābut if one of them gets too emotional sometimes thoughts slip through accidentally.
Ohohohohoho, yesssss
Ok, so, what is Stan's reaction when Ford manages to link his soul to his body? Was his ghost around when Ford was doing all those failed experiments or was he more in a non-existent state? What was the first thing he did when suddenly waking up in Ford's body? What was the second? Does Ford get to sleep when Stan is in his body?(like, without the fear of Bill possessing him) and if yes, what was Ford's reaction to actually waking up more renewed than he left off for the first time in weeks? Does Stan establish standards for how Ford needs to keep his their body? Omg, do they call it "their" body now? Does Ford eventually need to demand standards as well?ā½Ź·įµį¶ įµįµ Źøįµįµ įµįµįµāæ Źøįµįµ'Ź³įµ į¶Ź°įµį¶¦āæĖ¢įµįµįµį¶¦āæįµā¾ Can they lie to each other (like, with the telepathy and all)? Does Ford ever explain to Stan what he called him for in the first place?
And, more importantly, do they get to talk things out? Do they get to make up? Because if they can't lie to each other then Ford believing that Stan breaking the project was an accident isn't really "believing his brother", he just has to, and Stan will never know if Ford would've believed him for real ever... But if they CAN lie to each other then there would probably be some nagging part of Stan's brain going "does he actually believe me? or is he just being nice out of guilt?", in fact, there could probably be some part of Ford's brain that doesn't fully believe it but feels like he owes Stan forgiveness, right?
(Ok, wait, i trailed off, feel free to save some parts for when you feel like writing, if you want to)
And lastly, wich one of those stupid unicorns is first? āļø
Ok this is a lot of questions so I canāt answer them all at once
Havenāt really decided if Stan was a ghost while ford was trying to bring him back or if his soul was just sorta in stasis, like a long dreamless sleep.
Anyway, the first thing Stan does when getting out in fordās body is probably freak out. Both because 1. He doesnāt know what the hell is going on and 2. Ford is clearly, very unwell
Anyway once Stan is done freaking out (and figures out how to give ford control of the body back) he probably just kinda. Exists in fordās body for a while he processes things. Just like. Responds to ford when he talks to him but otherwise just sorta exists and thinks and lets ford take the reins. Until the realization kicks in about how badly ford is still taking care of himself and how badly the house has fallen into disarray. Then he takes control again to force ford to do things like eat sleep and shower, and to clean up all the biohazards lying around.
Not really sure what happens with bill, but it would be kinda funny if having 2 souls in his body was able to just kinda. Cancel out bill possession. Like if bill tries to take control Stan can kinda just force him out. Not the perfect solution and is kinda hard to maintain forever but at least gives them enough time that theyāre able to prevent any more damage from bill in the time it takes to figure out a more permanent solution like unicorn hair.
Anyway, yes, they do make up, but thereās still issues in their relationship. Namely because of their trauma. Fordās trauma at killing Stan means heās full of guilt but also now is kind of⦠overprotective. Fordās initial attempts at making Stan a body (after Stan had first died) failed because of how sleep deprived and, well, unwell he was (mentally physically and emotionally) he was. Probably for the best he tethered Stanās soul to his body since existing as a ghost for too long can cause one to lose oneself/the longer you wait the harder it is to retrieve a soulā but the longer Stanās soul stays tethered to his body, the harder it is to consider Stan āleavingā him. (Making a body for Stan and figuring out how to tether his soul to it would still be a hard process regardless, one that would take months if not years) but it would still be possible. But having Stan with him always is comforting and⦠the thought of being along in his own head again, of Stan being away from him, of being out of reach, out of sight where anything could happen to him and what if he loses him againā well. Not a good thought
Figuring out how to share fordās body and all the compromises that come with it is a long process with a lot of pitfalls. It takes them years to figure it out and even then itās not perfect, they still gotta negotiate and compromise with each other a lot
Yayyyyyy :D the traumatised brothers!
They eventually figure out how to sort of⦠share control? Like Stan could control a hand and fidget with a foot while ford controls the rest of the body. To actually completely share control is very difficult and requires a lot of coordination and communication
On very rare occasions though, when they are very in sync emotionally and in with how they want to respond to a situationāthey can end up sharing control almost perfectly sharing control without even thinking about it. Like, for example, if one of their loved ones (like dipper or Mabel) was in danger, about to be hurt by some monster or something, and their protective instinct kicks in and their only thoughts are āget the kid out of danger, beat the monster upā, theyād be so focused on their goal in the moment that when they look back on it later, they might not even remember who did what.
ohhh, that's such a cool concept! Them doing things that feel automatic because they're both on the same boat and letting their instinct synchronise!
Oooh u guys wanna hear about my au where the Stans end up sharing a body so bad. U want me to talk about it

Ford, sweetie, I might be just guessing here, but I think your nephew wanted you to gift him the journals, just a hunch
Shoutout to this silly lil logo we see in stanās motel room in ATOTS. Stan why are u so needlessly suspicious.
One of my favorite lines from journal 3 is āthank goodness he is recovering his wonderfully twisted mindā
Your honor. Ford loves his morally ambiguous brotheršš
Sooo trueee, they are the worst and the best, and we love them for it
