Can't help but notice how thin the string gets the further it gets from madoka, like it's barely resisting
And homura still clings to it, like it's the only thing anchoring her to life rather than weighing her down
Well, maybe it does both

i think that i've posted about it before, and a little bit right after watching madoka, but time loops really are the most succinct possible way to explain how "#this is what ocd feels like to me". yknow? i used to describe it as my brain being a computer that is constantly running simulations of everything that could possibly happen from a given moment that i'm fixated on, simple binary sorting applied to every imaginable outcome to decide whether it's a good outcome or a bad outcome, and running into mental overflow errors as i try to calculate the "right" "way" "through" several nested layers of simulation. and time loop is just a different metaphor for that same process, isn't it? the same situation, repeating in your brain, over and over and over, and every time you're back there you hope and pray that this time you'll find the "solution," find the one correct course of action that makes everything turn out how it needs to. it's a fantasy, and a disorder, of control over a fundamentally uncontrollable universe, fundamentally uncontrollable other people: the presupposition that a "solution" exists to get any particular outcome at all is based on a desperate need for certainty anyway. but when you're mentally trapped in the time loop, you keep trying anyway. you simulate it in your mind, every possible thing you could have done then -- and every possible thing you could do now -- to get the "solution." OCD is a time loop where, every time, you are solving to prevent whatever it is you're obsessed with preventing, and it compels you toward irrational and unhealthy actions in your attempts to solve it. it's a disorder that makes you blame yourself for failure, because if you can just get more information this time around then it'll be different next time, it has to be, surely. it's a disorder that refuses to accept the possibility that perceived patterns are just selectively conspicuous chaos. it's a disorder that makes you feel all the anguish of shooting madoka in the head every single time until you finally find a way to singlehandedly kill the walpurgisnacht, and it's a disorder that refuses to accept that that's simply impossible for you to do and that a "solution" simply does not exist.
and when your OCD is managed, it's not that you're never in the time loop anymore. god, i wish! no, it's that you have to manage to keep living like normal whenever it happens, instead of fixating on the thing that you're supposedly trapped in the loop to stop. it looks like going grocery shopping and hanging out with your friends instead of building more bombs than last time.
all i ever wanted was the world
homura i knew you'd break my heart but i didn't know how bad

I had a dream that I was walking along a road with people infected by alien spores, and I had to move so, so carefully because if I didn’t, they would mob me. anyway, I fucked up and they did start coming for me World War Z style. like really scary, lots of running and hiding, but eventually they surrounded me and pinned me down. then as one of their cruel acts they want to fuck me up the ass, and I was like wait :) oh :) okay that’s fine actually :) BUT THEN I WOKE UP! GOD DAMN IT!!!!!
my apartment blew up </3

just learned that magnolias are so old that they’re pollinated by beetles because they existed before bees
They existed *before beetles*
Why is this sad? Why am I sad?

This is how I feel about Joshua Trees. They and avocado trees produce fruit meant to be eaten and dispersed by giant ground sloths. Without them, the Joshua Trees' range has shrunk by 90%.
(my own photos)
Not only they, but the entire Mojave ecosystem is still struggling to adapt since the loss of ground sloth dung. their chief fertilizer.
Many, many trees and plants in the Americas have widely-spaced, extremely long thorns that do nothing to discourage deer eating their leaves, but would've penetrated the fur of ground sloths and mammoths. Likewise, if you've observed a tree that drops baseball or softball-sized fruit which lies on the ground and rots, like Osage Oranges, which were great for playing catch at my school, chances are they were ground sloth or mammoth chow.
You can read about various orphaned plants and trees missing their megafauna in this poignant post:
Trees that once depended on animals like the wooly mammoth for survival have managed to adapt and survive in the modern world.

pacific rim fucks severely for a lot of reasons but my favorite is that it opens with "the lizard aliens are unionizing so we built robots running on the power of love to fight them you got all that right" and before you have time to really process that concept bam gunshot body on the floor and the movie goes "now consider the vast power of grief in this setup" it never really stops considering
It also has a scene where the robot uses a boat as a baseball bat. That also fucks tremendously.

drunk karaoke best karaoke
i can't believe that it took the pitt one (1) karaoke scene to create the character dynamic of all time. and no matter how you frame it, it's gold. mel is besties with both santos and langdon and they hate each other? gold. kingdon with mel being besties with santos? gold. mentos with mel being besties with langdon? gold. world's worst throuple? gold. all roads lead to mel having the time of her life while santos and langdon wish to kill each other with knives.
