The most frustrating thing about discussions of class dynamics on the internet is that even though the actual meaning of petite bourgeoisie is pretty simple- you own the products of your own labor and might have other people in your employ, but you don't have the capital to resist proletarianization, which results in a particular set of class interests- whenever you try to use it, people assume you are calling them a frothing reactionary regardless of context. Nobody with a brain is saying that independent artists are all fascists, or that they don't have class interests in common with the proletariat. The point being made is just that making your money via patreon results in notably different economic incentives than making money via direct employment. But again, that's not what anyone hears, because the internet has already trained us all to assume bad faith whenever these conversations come up.

hey girls

asking for help is not something i'm good at, but i just paid rent for august only to find out that my boss/landlord (same guy) is cutting my hours by more than half, so he'll be paying me less than he's charging me in rent. which is also going to fuck up my food stamps because the government hates poors. i have a small network in the city that i am reaching out to for a new job, but that's a process and my expenses are time sensitive.

I have a 7yo daughter, of whom i am the sole custodial parent. her other parent doesn't pay child support and i don't have the money to sue them for what they owe already. things are tense, to say the least.

Always tough seeing how rampant polyphobia still is online with the same hateful talking points as any queerphobia. People openly and snarkily celebrating someone grieving a break up in a poly or open relationship because they’re “bound to fail” and “hopefully you learned your lesson” (as if every queer relationship hasn’t faced this exact scrutiny in the past. “See, this gay couple broke up. Yet another example of why homosexuality is destined to fail because it’s unnatural.”).

But then I remember how everyone IRL I’ve trusted to talk to about my poly relationship has either been immediately accepting of it or been really curious and asked me to explain how it works. And when I do, they go, “Huh. I don’t get it but it sounds like it works for you.” The best response was when Tulli explained navigating jealousy and compersion to an older, married person and they went, “Wow, I wish I heard this stuff when I was younger.” It’s a good reminder that in real life people suck less and have more stakes and motivation to show basic human empathy. Harder to be a random dickhead when you can’t just say something shitty to a stranger and run away scot-free.
